What about if someone sings in pitch/key in a foreign language, would you class that as a good vocal?

Well i understand english but can clearly point out, like you have, diana's awful diction which makes it difficult to understand what she is saying so your point is completely irrelevant.

I did enjoy Diana's performance more than Katy but Diana has terrible diction. It is a shame that even the chorus was poorly sung and at times she did sound like she was singing in a foreign language. She has improved so much as a performer but you would think someone in her team would point out that her enunciation is poor.

?? That didn't answer my question.

I am an english speaker & didnt understand diana vickers who was singing in english.

If i was a french speaker & a french singer was singing in french with really bad diction which sounds like just noises i wouldnt understand.

Poor exuse for not being able to understand someone's diction, bringing up understanding a different language, you should be able to understand someone who speaks the same language as you!

I will answer, but its completely irrelevant to the above debate, take leona for example, she sings italian in a song with an italian singer & ofcourse it is good vocal as always even in a different language, thats just one example. Her diction you can tell is fine even in another language!

I prefer Katy Perry, and 'Firework', but Diana Vickers definitely performed better than Katy did on the X Factor. Anyone with functioning ears could hear that. -_-

Not true now is it as people can decide for themselves which performance they prefered.

Yes it is true. Katy was barely in tune for the majority of the performance. Diana remained in tune. Leona's diction is horrific, yet I wouldn't say that she performed badly because of it! Diana's vocals (if hard to decipher) were better than Katy's.

I actually preffered Katy's performance - and so did most other people according to ITunes???

Well you could argue that she has the advantage of being a bigger and more high profile name, and plus IMO having the stronger song. I don't think the performance itself factors into how both songs are doing here.

How can you say leona's diction is horrific when just saying 'anyone with functional ears..blah blah', maybe its your ears that are disfuntional. <_<

That is such a ridiculous comment, and from a leona fan, ergh.

No it is not true back to the original comment you made, diana was hardly a good vocal.

You cant really debate who was better everyone has there own oppinion, in my oppinion not just cause im a big diana fan she was better based on singing and maybe cause i know my wicked heart well i could understand what she was saying. but the first part off katy performance was pretty poor and im sure alot off people agree by all the articles.. but everyone has there own oppinion

The thing is, to me both arent very good singers. IN MY OPINION i'd rather listen to katy perry then diana vickers (live or recorded), what people (aka mrlovett) has to understand is people have their opinions and your own isnt superior to anyone elses. -_- Such an arrogant attitude to have.

Because Leona's diction is awful. That's a well known fact between both her fans and her haters. I have to look up a lot of her song lyrics. 'I Got You' for instance has many places where you can't understand what she's saying. Poor diction does not make you a bad singer. Leona has a very good voice, but her diction is something she needs to work on, just like Diana.

How on Earth is it ridiculous? You're making no sense whatsoever. You've had discussions with several people and dismissed everything they're saying, by making points that make no sense. Diana was in tune, Katy was not. Therefore Diana did the better vocal performance. End of. Thinking otherwise is ludicrous. Katy has been getting slated pretty much everywhere for her performance. I'm yet to speak to a person, or read a comment from a person (other than you and maybe one other person on this board) who said that her vocal performance was good.

I'm not saying Katy is bad, I freaking love the woman, but her performance VOCALLY was poor, and was surpassed by Diana's.

Do you have the ability to read? Not once have i said katy perry was good vocally on the night, i have often said BOTH HER AND DIANA ARENT EXACTLY WELL KNOWN FOR BEING GOOD VOCALISTS.

Get it in your head, many people will disagree with you on this topic, you come across quite stubborn and arrogant as in you will think your opinion is superior to others who think differently, maybe that will change with age and experience i hope so for your sake, but we'll move on from this now.

ps: Its not a fact  take in to example her x factor performances, you can completely understand every word... and 'very good vocalist'? leona is arguably the best vocalist on the music scene right now.

You are incredibly rude, are you aware of that? We're not talking opinions, we're talking facts. If I was trying to push my opinion as better than yours, I'd be saying "Diana's performance was better, her voice kicks Katy's butt". Instead I'm talking about the fact that Diana was in tune, compared to the fact that Katy wasn't. You just seem to be getting riled and upset due to the fact that I'm not agreeing with you. I'm being stubborn because you're being blinded by your admiration for Katy, not because I think that my opinion is superior to yours.

I'm not talking about Leona's vocal ability, despite the fact that I don't agree with your point, I don't feel the need to pursue another discussion with you in which you'll resort to name calling. I'll end this discussion with you now, as clearly you aren't capable of having a discussion with another person without resorting to belittling them.

You are coming across rude though which has resorted in me getting annoyed, i dont want to have meaningless arguments but the way you post just comes across aggressive, rude and as if your belitting others views..

Sorry if offended you, shouldnt get to that just wanted to open your eyes to the way you come across.

Can i just say even though Diana's diction was hard to decipher last night, she isn't usually as bad; but remember she is only a 19 year old who hasn't performed in front of 12 million people in 2 years; dont you think it was just down to nerves? Diana performed so much better than Katy, and the production was amazing.
