I posted ages ago that Olly Murs would be #1 and didn't quite understand why everyone was so convinced 'Teenage Dream' was going to storm to no. 1 - imho, 'Please Don't Let Me Go' is a better "song". The fact it's by an X Factor runner up means bugger all to me.

Whilst Joe is technically a good singer, he belongs in the West End. Not the UK charts. Olly is more "pop" than Joe will ever be. That's what I think and everyone is entitled to disagree.

Yes you're right - he's worked so hard for this. Yep, he's fought hard to get noticed, worked hard for a record deal, and is selling purely because of the song, absolutely nothing to do with the fact he was an X Factor finalist and just happens to be releasing a song as a result of it. Oh and all the publicity has nothing at all to do with who he is

Sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong.

Some artists from The X Factor deserve their success and have worked hard to get where they are now. Take Leona for example, she tried to break into the music industry before and when the opportunity of XF came along, she took it - because she was determined to break through. Being a contestant or even winning XF doesn't guarantee success. It can kill careers - look at Laura White. No one wants to sign her because she didn't get the public support.

On the other hand, you can be right. The likes of Jedward and Chico shouldn't be allowed a record deal. Truly terrible. They haven't got an ounce of creativity and artistry judging by what they release - covers and cringe-worthy songs respectively.

While PDLMG is a pretty average, mediocre, dull song, Olly did (co-?)write it along with the majority of his album. It's not like he's totally undeserving.

And btw, some musicians who break into the industry the conventional way might have had it easier than some XF acts but because they weren't televised, nobody knows about their "signing process".

Not to mention he is a fame whore of the highest order. The song is $h!t he is $h!t even his own brother can't bare to look at him.

It's naive and stupid to believe everything you read in The Sun and the Mail. Try asking his brother directly before saying disrespectful stuff like that.

15. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry

I think the 'X Factor makes it unfair' argument is pretty weak. I'm no Olly fan but the song that 'deserves' #1 is the song that sells the most. It doesn't matter what platform the artist or song comes from, it's selling the most, so should be #1! Most (I say most as some artists would keep their dignity) artists would allow XF to play their song to give their songs a boost, and Olly hasn't even been mentioned on XF I believe?

I would LOVE Katy Perry to be #1 but Olly is proving more popular (as of now) so that's that. If we were THAT bothered about this, DO something instead of bitching! Make a petition to include airplay, create buzz for Katy on Twitter or whatever.

The Airplay rule is used in the US and it's actually quite a good idea, their winners singles from American Idol never make #1 any more simply because the airplay is non-existent. However it does mean their charts are a lot slower than ours.

And disagree they will

Neither are my favourite song of the year but I far prefer Teenage Dream. That said, it was sort of assumed that it would go straight to #1, when in reality, the song isn't as commercial and crossover as California Gurls in my opinion. The Olly Murs song on the other hand ticks all of the boxes for a 2010 #1 single apart from maybe Radio 1 playlisting, but their stranglehold on the chart is seemingly weakening what with this being another huge #1 not backed by them, whilst the likes of Sky Ferreira limp in at 70-odd. You can't even blame the age old 'it's indie and those bands make money from touring' argument on Sky's flop, it's just a bonafide non-hit, because barely anybody connected to it. Which was a shame as I love it

Quite a massive leap for Katy! It will be top 10 by 2-3 and should break top 5 by 5.00 :)

I love how buzzjack goes mad when some basic b*tch doesn't get her no.1

Why the hostility towards male artists?. Olly fully deserves it.

I quite like Olly and his song to be honest. Although I'm not gonna buy the single - probably hold out for the album

WOW Olly at #1 :o

I want Kitty Purry to get to #1 this week :D Olly can settle for second :P

I'm not a fan of Olly Murs at all, but some of the bitching in here is hilarious. Of course he deserves to be number one if it gets there. As some have already said, he isn't some comedy act like Jedward or Chico. He's a decent singer and even though the dancing is often silly, he is a very good entertainer with stage presence. Of course he has tried to get into the industry himself, but it's such a hard thing to do. So many of the most famous acts today were shunned from the industry in the beginning. I mean GaGa was a behind-the-scenes writer at first.

For all it's flaws, the X-Factor gives people a platform. Though it has churned out some ridiculous winners and made some really untalented people famous, it has also produced the likes of Alexandra and Leona, which I think validates it. I'm just glad he didn't have to lift his shirt 34932034280 times to get to number one, unlike a certain talentless X-Factor boyband.

Who is this Olly Murs and where has he come from? Ive never heard his song

He came from last year's X Factor. ;)

He was on last years X Factor and was runner-up

I'm going to post something that I actually posted in another thread a couple of weeks ago - mainly because I think its relevent to whats being said on here

I always wonder though, many well known comedians from the 70's were found on a TV talent show called New Faces I think, and many are still around today - people like Roy Walker, Michael Barrymore, Victora Wood, Lenny Henry and Joe Pasquale came from that show - though no one would know about it now. Because they auditioned and won a TV show - does this mean they are not allowed success? Like you said - they would have got countless of free publicity on prime time television, while other comedians work their socks off in pubs and other small venues for months in the hope they might make it. So I ask you, who is more deserving of success?

I just think it gives a new angle to it, and I think when it comes to TV talent shows, well its a great platform, but its what you do with that platform that really counts

Oh God another lame X Factor reject. Next!

Now, I don't think JLS are exactly talentless. They do have talent and all, they're just milking the hot boyband image to its bone, and that's what makes it bad at times.

"Beat Again" and "One Shot" were perfect Pop tracks, and even "Everybody In Love" although repetitive. Their album was also a fine piece of Brit Urban, but they still have a lot to prove. And "The Club Is Alive" was certainly one step back.

But yeah, they can sing and dance quite good, so I think they do have talent.

About Olly, he's just the whole package and he went on the X Factor platform so it's natural he's doing well so far.

The song is very summery, even if nothing special, so it makes sense to me that it's selling a lot so far.

I'd rather see him than Katy at the top spot.

This. -_-

I think X Factor should never be on TV again
