Posted August 24, 201014 yr make amends? Do you believe that his promised donation from the sales of his book absolves him from his decision to invade Iraq? Should the British Legion accept his donation , thought to be around £5 million? It is to help fund the the building of the Battle Back Challenge Centre for the rehabilitation of Armed Forces personel injured in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Wars first waged by Mr Blair! If you were the family of an injured soldier, would you be happy that his money help build this centre?
August 24, 201014 yr It's a PR stunt, he never had any intention of doing it for charity till he got a hard time from the press. If he had said this before anything I would have respected him for it but it only came after a media outcry about how much money he was making. PR stunt and nothing more, very sleazy
August 24, 201014 yr I don't particularly care. Some people will really take the chance to moan about ANYTHING - a donation's a donation, regardless of what its intentions are. The tabloids really just need to shut up and be grateful the donation was made in the first place for a good cause! And this is coming from somebody who doesn't even particularly LIKE Tony Blair.

The donation from Blair is welcomed and will be gratefully received by the charity concerned but I don't think he should be idolised over it or his many faults glossed over just because he did this because he didn't do it from the bottom of his heart he did it to get the press off his back
August 25, 201014 yr I don't know whether it's necessarily a publicity stunt, but the fact remains that it doesn't come close to making amends for taking us into an illegal war and sacrificing so many British and Iraqi lives.

I'm surprised at you mate... I mean, sorry, but this is disgusting and beyond contempt as far as I'm concerned, B-liar attempting to salve his conscience by buying-off the British Legion, of course they're not gonna turn it down are they...? So, he's donating a bit to charidee or whatever, fukk me, that's an insult to injury tbh... I mean, these soldiers wouldn't even NEED his Oh-so-generous donation because they'd still have their limbs intact, because they wouldn't have been even sent out there in the first place if that piece of sh"t showed a little backbone and stood up to the Texan Cowboy.... <_< And, note that his "generosity" doesn't exactly extend to the Iraqi victims of the war..... <_< My advice to anyone contemplating buying his piece of sh"t work of fiction - donate the £25 to the British Legion DIRECTLY and save yourself the boredom you'll go through reading B-Liar's ego-massaging pile of w***.....

I don't consider that it lets him off the hook at all, but a donation is a donation - I prefer to look at ends rather than means. In any case, I am contemplating buying it, although mainly because my historian impulse refuses to let me make a decision on the New Labour years without having seen and cross-referenced basically all possible sources

It'll probably just be re-working of his "evidence" to Chilcott.... No need to buy it anyway if you really wanna read it.. Pretty sure it'll be on some site somewhere where you can download it for free....
August 25, 201014 yr I call it compensation for having to share the same room and breathing space as a lying, conniving war criminal :) I wasn't having a go Craig and I appreciate your honesty! I thoroughly intend selling my Take That tickets on Ebay as soon as I get them. Norma PS ... sorry to have been missing for almost the whole afternoon. Just got in from shopping and there was a weird whining noise coming from the dishwasher. I'd totally forgotten I'd left the cat in there with the pots from last night. It was a slow-cycle and I'd used a mild detergent so she's neither too soggy or fluffy. Edited August 25, 201014 yr by Norma_Snockers
August 25, 201014 yr Meh, a donation is still a donation. If it wasn't for the one huge mistake that was Iraq he'd rightly be regarded as the best PM for at least a generation, it's just a shame this will tarnish him so much in years to come.

I would say it was more than just the one mistake tbh.... And, even if Iraq was the only mistake he made, I'd say it's correct that it tarnished him, there is no greater a decision a leader can make than a decision to go to war, so they'd better make damn sure it's for the right reasons... He didn't and they weren't the right reasons...... And I personally do think it's important to consider where your money is coming from tbh... Look at Barack Obama, he gives out stick to BP over the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and seems to forget that a lot of his donations came from Exxon, who were responsible for a similar environmental disaster in Alaska.....

A donation is not just a donation though. I think charities etc should think very long and hard about where their money comes from. The amount we're talking about is a drop in the ocean to Blair anyway. To me ... its blood money. Norma Edited August 25, 201014 yr by Norma_Snockers

It wasn't just Iraq. Just about everything he did as a direct response to September 11th (I will never use the American term for it) was wrong.
