Razorlight - Razorlight

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1701092.JPG

Voted Best New Band at Q Awards (2004) and NME Awards (2005), Razorlight demonstrated in their million selling debut album 'Up All Night' that they were not only able to provide the stuff of great magazine copy but musically they could prove to all the doubting Thomas' that their talent and ambition went way beyond anything anyone was expecting. Now, two years on from their classic first album start, Razorlight have made their definitive statement. They had a #2 single with 'Somewhere Else' and blew away their peers with their trademark riotous performance at Live 8. -HMV

"There are many things to cherish about this record... its length, sound, simplicity, sheer brass balls and its songs... And if making the best guitar album since 'Definitely Maybe' is what's required, then job done. 5/5" - Q Magazine - HMV

I got this, this morning and so far i've listened to it 3 times. I'm a big fan of Razorlight and on the first listen I thought :( , this isn't anywere near as good as "Up All Night", however I listened to it again and then the whole album really grew on me, but it really does take a listen or two to get around.

"Somewere Else" really does act as a bridge between "Up All Night" and "Razorlight" as "Razorlight" is a lot more poppier and know were near as heavy as "Up All Night". The beginning of the album on the whole is quite poppier and gentle but it gets a bit heavier once "Pop Song 2006" comes in.

There are some real quality tracks like "America" which is gonna be the next single (I think) and I think it could be a huge track personally. The re-worked version of "Kirby's House" is a bit pointless IMO, as its just not as heavier or as long as the original, and just sounds basically the same to the original IMO.

Overall I think i'd give the album 8/10

I'm gonna see whats on the DVD and then decide to buy it. If the DVD version is not that great the std version will be in the sale in next to no time.

I've heard it but it's a bit m.o.r on the first few listens, however 'America,' is brilliant. :D

i've seen the dvd edition and it's quite standard rather than in a book like keanes. gona wait for the sales as i've got loads of free cds and an ipod of stuff to get through first

Well I'm totally unimpressed with it. Kirby's house has been destroyed as well :o I actually liked the original but the re worked version just sounds rubbish. Maybe it will take a while to grow on me - it took me about 2 months for In The Morning to grow on me. I just don't know if I can be bothered though. The only stand out tracks is, like everyone else says, America.

I'm otally with you on Kirby's House, I mean the big fans will already have the original version which is far superior to the new one IMO. I think the album is sheer class now though, and every track stands out to me, although I have heard the album a lot.

The main difference between Razorlight and UAR is that the sound has matured a lot, all of the songs just about out were as UAN not every song did, but along with America the stand out track for me on Razorlight is LA Waltz

I wish I had of managed to catch their Channel 4 performance the other night where I could have seen them performing some of the new tunes but I'm sure it will be repeated eventually!

The quote button is BELOW each post :P (you quoted the wrong one) and Welcome to Buzzjack :D

Imo this is one of the best albums of the year but why was In The Morning released as the first single when that and the new version of Kirby's House are the worst songs on the album imo.

or as the John Harris in the guardian film and music said since bob geldof (seeing as they seem to be the 21st century boomtown rats)

Totally agree, especially on the fact with Kirby's House, the new version is c**p compared to the original one.

Its "America", which IMO is one of the best tracks off the album. The worst two tracks on "Razorlight" are "In The Morning" and "Kirby's House".

I've heard some of this album, I found it dull, bland and uninspiring to be honest. And nobody better give me any of this "Shakira" sh!t either, I wouldn't listen to her if you paid me.... Razorlight are just another one of these generic "Indie" bands for people who buy about two albums a year from Sainsburys.....
