Posted July 15, 200619 yr Was the 50's with such classics as Heartbreak Hotel,Hound Dog,Jailhouse Rock or the 60's with such classics as Are you lonesome tonight,Return to sender or Suspician minds or the 70's with The wonder of you,I just can't help believing,An American Trilogy I know its a hard choice, but can you decide?
July 15, 200619 yr What a great question, Brian Really tough though cos I love Elvis full stop, but I do have a favourite era and it doesn't exactly fit into only one decade. ;) I'm going to get back to you on this one because I want to explain the reasons for my choice :cheer:
July 16, 200619 yr Such a difficult question to answer Each decade had some real highs! I think of the 50s, oh to have actually been there when Elvis burst onto the scene and (literally) shook the music scene to the core. To have seen young Elvis as he toured and caused hysteria wherever he went, and his performances on the Ed Sullivan Show And what can I say about the music that Elvis recorded in the 50s that hasn’t already been said a thousand times. Awesome!! From his first film, Love Me Tender, through Jailhouse Rock and King Creole, he was literally on top of the world! Came the 60s, and who else but Elvis could come back from two years in the army, when he didn’t perform in public at all and when he was worried that his fans would still be waiting for him, with such a great album Elvis Is Back. The title alone said it all and contained such (now) classics such as It’s Now Or Never, Are You Lonesome Tonight and Reconsider Baby! Yes, during the 60s, Elvis’ music output was mostly soundtracks to the movies he was starring in, but there were some great tracks and Elvis, whatever film he was in, was very watchable! The 70s heralded a return to performing and Elvis worked his butt off playing so many concerts each year, both on tour and in Vegas, but sadly not overseas. He continued to make great music right up to the end of his life. Probably the one thing that most people will remember of Elvis in the 70s (and I’m not talking about the jumpsuits and the usual depiction of Elvis that some people continue to ridicule) is the fantastic satellite special ‘Aloha From Hawaii’. For me, that concert was what heralded my return to Elvis in a big way! All that said, I have to say that my favourite era has to be from ’68 to ‘73  1968 brought the fantastic ‘Comeback Special’ that showed the world that Elvis had still got what it takes to be the King, after years of film making. 1969 and Elvis was in American Studios in Memphis and produced what, in my opinion, was the best music of his life. So many great songs came out of those sessions, In The Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain, the list goes on. That year saw Elvis return to Vegas to break attendance records. 1970 saw Elvis recording in Nashville and more great music Just Pretend, I’ve Lost You, I’ll Never Know, Mary In The Morning are just a few of a the fantastic songs that came out of that ‘marathon’ session. 1970 also saw the filming of That’s The Way It Is, a wonderful documentary showing Elvis at the top of his form in Vegas and looking as gorgeous as ever! 1971 saw more great recording sessions in Nashville and touring. 1972 saw Elvis breaking records for his concerts at Madison Square Gardens and his concerts were filmed for Elvis On Tour. 1973 and who but Elvis could put on a concert for the world and truly wow the world!! Everyone has their favourites and some will disagree with me, but it’s the music from this period in Elvis’ life that I find myself listening to most! B) Edited July 16, 200619 yr by tilly
October 11, 200618 yr I thought I would bump this up for some of our new posters  Let us know what your fave Elvis decade is
October 11, 200618 yr Id say overall it'd be the 50's because its when he broke through and shook up music, but I like the 70's as well, especially the big comeback show
October 23, 200618 yr For me it has to be the 70's, but if I'm cheating late 60's, early 70's  That is a tough question because I love just about all of his stuff
