Posted July 15, 200618 yr Singles get nowere near enough promo these days, don't you think? the reason is because there are hardly any shows for artists to come and perform on anymore! face it good sataday morning TV shows for kids are dead and gone! there is the odd advert every now and again but thats it!, last time I saw a performance by an artist on terrestrial TV was Rihanna on Richard and Judy weeks ago?!
July 15, 200618 yr Jesus. But the thing that annoy's me is the amount of shows that have singers who sing LIVE

I would say the internet, and five gazillion radio stations help. Also movies might do the trick, but of course excepting Just My Luck
July 16, 200618 yr i think most singles nowadays that are in adverts are used to tie in with the album. eg. in shakiras advert it advertised the album ''oral fixation vol1'' with the hit ''hips dont lie'' by showing the video.
July 16, 200618 yr thats the thing with el presidente, they dont get promotion, the album got to no.57 and no one knoows how good it is!!!!
July 16, 200618 yr *Sigh* as irrelevant as ever eh ElPresRocket...? Right...singles still get about a thousand times more promotion now than they did twenty years ago. It's kinda refreshing that the balance can be redressed slightly between massive over-publicised releases and the smaller independent ones which can now make the charts based on merit - often entering higher than awful releases by the likes of Shayne Ward where he sells because of who he is...and an entire team of promotions people. Thirty or so music channels, hundreds of radio stations (not including Internet ones) and the ever popular viral campaigns mean that promotion is still on the increase...it's just that now everyone can do it.
July 16, 200618 yr Well imo I think the singles should be marketed like they were in the 80's again now downloads have come into the equation and by that I mean records should be released just about as soon as they are heard on the radio in the shops as well as for downloads so they'd climb up again instead of trying to sell as much in the first week as possible. This way it'd make the charts more relevant considering Christina Aguilera is getting a lot of lost sales because her downloads can't be included in the singles chart yet. I know that's not EXACTLY what this thread was about but it's just how I think they should be promoted but as for their AMOUNT of promotion as it's already been said there isn't any kids shows or CD:UK or as from about an hour from now no TOTP so teeny bop artists especially don't have many places to promote... it'll be interesting to see how Girls Aloud and Rachel Stevens promote their comeback singles with that in mind.

Perhaps the quality of the record will determine how much play it gets for a change? The thing about both Rachel and Girls Aloud is they'll get played a lot on MTV because it's not only kids that like them - most blokes do too. Then again, aren't Girls Aloud on the verge of a split, and has Rachel seriously got another album in her after the last one did so badly?

There are always split rumours about Girls Aloud but they do have another studio album (Not a GH) coming out this year and Rachel has got another single at least but I'm not sure if I believe that she's going to get another album myself. I'm just using them as an example as they're pop acts that are coming back this year. ;)
July 16, 200618 yr Singles don't get heavily marketed because there's not much money to be made from them.
July 16, 200618 yr Author Singles don't get heavily marketed because there's not much money to be made from them. Singles sell albums, without them there'd be no albums..
July 17, 200618 yr 2 much focus went on the first week sale of a single some years ago and that has done alot of damage i think, the downloads have in a way changed that a bit as a single is more likely to climb the charts these days however there is need for a decent msuci show at a decent time,i really do think totp should be kept and hire a serious team to work on it and get it back on track, again alot more live singing is needed, why appear and then mime but i do think totp is one of the shows that prefer mimers latelt as its less hassle for the show
