August 29, 201014 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?tod...3413&pages= Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles In a first for this decade and century, an English born performer has taken over the No.1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart, as Taio Cruz lands his first Australian No.1 single with “Dynamite” this week. Having languished at No.2 for the past three weeks, this week he blows away his competition of Eminem and Rihanna’s six week stay for “Love the Way You Lie”, which drops down to No.2, and keeping Katy Perry’s new single “Teenage Dream” at No.3 for a second week. “Dynamite” becomes the 967th No.1 in Australia (1940 to 2010), and as I mentioned above the first English performer to top our charts this decade, in fact the last solo English Male artist to hit No.1 was almost nine years ago, 10th of September in 2001, Bob the Builder hit the top with “Can We Fix it?”, whilst the last English performer to hit the top was Leona Lewis with “Bleeding Love” in January of 2008. Taio becomes the 186th English performer to hit No.1 here in Australia, and the 37th English Solo Male performer. “Dynamite” is also appearing at the No.1 place for the first time in a song title, although there has been one previous dynamite at No.1, the group Big Audio Dynamite II in October of 1991 for two weeks with the track “Rush”. And with this track being released on Island Records, it becomes their twelfth No.1 here in Australia, and second for the year, as Brian McFadden’s “Just Say So” was also on Island Records, which hit the No.1 spot in April of this year. Most of the Top 10 only move around one place either up or down, with three songs holding their positions and one entering the Top 10. Flo Rida and David Guetta stay put at No.4 with “Club Can’t Handle Me”, and swapping places at No.5 and No.6 are Usher and Pitbull on “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” up one place to No.5, and down a single place to No.6 is Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull with “I Like it”. Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and Adam Lambert’s “If I Had You” are both down a single place to No.8 and No.9 respectively, and for an eighth non-consecutive week, Eminem’s “Not Afraid” is at No.10. The only track to enter the Top 10 this week becomes the fourth consecutive Top 10 entry from Ke$ha’s “Animal” album (TW-22), entitled “Take it Off”. Her previous single “Tik Tok” (No.1), “Blah Blah Blah” (No.3) and “Your Love is My Drug” (No.3) all cracked the Top 3, so let’s see if this new track can achieve similar heights, but otherwise it’s still a great feat to achieve four Top 10 singles from your debut album. NEW PEAKS: 30 Seconds to Mars are poised to score their first Top 10 entry possibly in the next couple of weeks, as “Closer to the Edge” is up a couple of places this week to a new peak of No.13. Birds of Tokyo make “Plans” at No.14, up from last weeks No.18. Stan Walker scores the highest flying track of the week, as his second studio album is out this week (see below for more info), and with his massive promotional duties he’s undertaken for the new album, it helps his latest single “Choose You” to jump back up the charts thirty-three places to No.16. With the passing of lead-singer for Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, it sees their track “Dance the Way I Feel” climb back up six places to No.18, two places lower than its original peak. Last weeks high flyer for Mike Posner is maintained this week, as “Cooler Than Me” is up three places to No.23. Up seventeen places to No.23 is the new voice of the Optus Recharge campaign, plus she’s just announced her national tour for March 2011, Rihanna and Slash zoom to No.24 with the track “Rockstar 101”. B.o.B and Rivers Cuomo climb five places to No.32 with their new track “Magic”. Jay Sean is up twenty places to No.40 with his new single “2012 (It Ain’t the End)”, and right behind at No.41, up six places are The John Butler Trio with their new single “Revolution”. Breaking into the Top 50 at No.47 (up five places) is Vanessa Amorosi and her new single “Holiday”. The second album for Irish act The Script is entitled “Science and Faith”, and will be released September 10th here in Australia. The first single from that album is the highest new entry of the week, debuting at No.12 is “For the First Time”. It becomes their fifth charting single and third highest peaking track behind the two Top 10 entries of “BreakEven” (HP3, May 2009) and “Before the Worst” (HP-10, October 2009). Patrick Hernandez Jr. is better known to the musical world as Bruno Mars, who this week scores his first solo chart entry, debuting at No.43 with “Just the Way You Are”. Bruno was originally a music producer for such acts as Flo Rida, Alexandra Burke, Brandy, Sean Kingston and The Sugababes before lending his vocals to two Top 5 tracks from this year. First it was for the B.o.B track “Nothin’ on You” (HP-3, May 2010) and he just fell out of the Top 10 and is sitting at No.11 with Travie McCoy on the track “Billionaire” (HP-5, July 2010). Bruno’s debut solo album “Doo-Wops and Hooligans” is due in early October, and this track is currently Top 10 in the US and Top 5 in New Zealand. Below Top 50: Three local acts make jumps up the lower half of the Top 100, all poised to strike the Top 50 next week possibly. The Potbelleez are up seventeen places to No.52 with “Hello”, Little Red jump up eight places to No.54 with their track “Rock it”, and Bliss N’ Eso picked up ATB airplay for their new track “Addicted” this week, which has helped that song to climb twenty-nine places to No.58, whilst their other current single “Down By the River” is one place lower at No.59 this week. Also scoring new peaks below the top fifty are Calvin Harris with “You Used to Hold Me” at No.57 and local dance act, now UK darlings Pendulum and their new track “Witchcraft”, climbing four places to a new peak of No.61. Debuting at No.60 is the new track for Kid Cudi entitled “Erase Me”, it’s the first track from his late October due second album “Man in the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager”. It’s his sixth chart appearance on the ARIA Charts, and his first solo track for this year, having been in the Top 3 in March as the featured vocalist on the David Guetta track “Memories” which this week leaves the Top 100 after 35 weeks of charting. This new track features guest vocals from Kanye West, who also enters the Top 100 this week at No.100 with his new track “Power”; it’s the first track from his November due fifth studio album “Dark Twisted Fantasy”. Local dance singer Zoe Badwi scores her first ARIA Top 100 Chart entry by debuting at No.74 with her fourth single “Freefallin’”. She has previously charted on the club charts with “Release Me” (2008) and released other tracks entitled “Don’t Wan’cha” and “In the Moment” (both 2009), and has toured with TV Rock throughout Europe, Asia and locally. And local dance act score their second chart entry, entering at No.77 are Bag Raiders with “Way Back Home”, which follows the track “Shooting Stars”, which this very week last year was peaking at No.62 (31-Aug-2010). Paramore are about to tour Australia, and debuting at No.89 is their new single “Careful”, the fourth single from their former No.1 album “Brand New Eyes” (TW-72). It joins their current charting single “The Only Exception” (TW-37), and the albums two previous charting tracks “Ignorance” (HP-35, Sept 2009) and “Brick by Boring Brick” (HP-85, Jan 2010). Seattle grunge-masters Soundgarden were last on the ARIA charts back in December 1996 with their ninth charting single entitled “Blow Up the Outside World” (HP-78). Since then various group members have done solo and group projects, most notably front man Chris Cornell and his solo releases, plus forming the group Audioslave. Well the group reformed in January of this year, and new material will be added to an upcoming compilation album entitled “Telephantasm” which is due in late September. The first taste of that new material debuts on the ARIA Top 100 this week at No.90, and is entitled “Black Rain”. British indie-pop back The Klaxons score their first ARIA Singles Chart entry this week, coming in at No.95 with their new track “Echoes”. It’s taken from their second album “Surfing the Void”, which also debuts on the album chart this week, more on that below. Albums Eminem now spends a ninth week at No.1 with his “Recovery” album, again denying a local act to score a No.1 debut by entering at No.2, more on that soon. The last album to spend as much time at the top was the December/January hold from Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream” which spent a total of eleven weeks at the top of the ARIA Album Charts. Eminem now moves up to seventeenth place on the list of acts with “Most Accumulated Weeks at No.1-Albums (1965-2010)”, as he now notches up a total of 22 weeks at No.1, matching the effort made by Cat Stevens. Next week Eminem faces stiff competition on several fronts. Fathers Day sales will start to affect the charts, and new material from former No.1 acts Jimmy Barnes and The Disturbed plus new stuff from John Mellencamp, Paul Kelly and the possible new No.1 favorite Katy Perry all could knock Eminem off his No.1 perch. So again a local act debuts behind the juggernaut that is Eminem, with Stan Walker’s second album “From the Inside Out” coming in at No.2, but beating the No.3 placing of his first album “Introducing…” which debuted and peaked at No.3 in the second last week of December in 2009. This new album features the current single “Choose You” (TW-49 to 16) and previous single “Unbroken” (TW-76, HP-23). Half of the Top 10 albums this week stay exactly where they were last week, with Bliss N’ Eso’s “Running on Air”, Florence + The Machine’s “Lungs” (happy anniversary), the self-titled album for Birds of Tokyo and Angus and Julia Stone’s “Down the Way” all staying put at No.3, No.4, No.6 and No.8 respectively, the fifth of course is Eminem’s “Recovery” album holding at No.1. Last weeks No.2 entry for Iron Maiden, “The Final Frontier” only drops down to No.5 this week, Washington are down two places to No.7 with “I Believe You, Liar”, and also down two places to No.9 is the self-titled album for “Slash”. Local Melbourne act Miami Horror score the other Top 10 entry of the week, as their debut album “Illumination” debuts at No.10 this week. Current single from the album is entitled “I Look to You”, and the album also features the previous singles “Moon Theory” and “Sometimes” (HP-61, March 2010). Another local artist, this one being a country singer from Perth, debuts right behind them at No.11, it’s Adam Brand with his eighth studio album “It’s Gonna Be OK”, which becomes his second highest charting album in his twelve year charting career. Below is Adam’s charting history… Alb Entry Date HP WI Titles A1 1-Feb-99 44 12a ADAM BRAND 6-Sep-99 82 1 ADAM BRAND ® A2 13-Mar-00 26 6a GOOD FRIENDS 14-Aug-00 76 4 GOOD FRIENDS ® 13-Nov-00 61 1 GOOD FRIENDS ® 12-Feb-01 91 1 GOOD FRIENDS ® A3 21-Jan-02 24 10 BUILT FOR SPEED A4 16-Aug-04 16 9 GET LOUD A5 17-Jul-06 28 8a WHAT A LIFE A6 28-Jan-08 10 9 BLAME IT ON EVE G1 15-Sep-08 68 4 GREATEST HITS 1998-2008 A7 16-Mar-09 19 6 HELL OF A RIDE 14-Sep-09 48 4 HELL OF A RIDE ® 14-Sep-09 97 1 GREATEST HITS 1998-2008 ® A8 30-Aug-10 11 1* IT'S GONNA BE OK Taio Cruz not only scores the new No.1 single in the country, but his album “Rokstarr” is up to a new peak of No.14 this week. British group The Klaxons debut at No.15 with their second album “Surfing the Void” instantly beating the No.73 placing of their first album from February 2007 entitled “Myths of the Near Future”. The new albums lead single “Echoes” also enters the ARIA Top 100 singles, see above for that info. The Dixie Chicks debut at No.33 with their first collection of tracks entitled “The Essential”. August 29, 201014 yr “Dynamite” becomes the 967th No.1 in Australia (1940 to 2010), and as I mentioned above the first English performer to top our charts this decade, in fact the last solo English Male artist to hit No.1 was almost nine years ago, 10th of September in 2001, Bob the Builder hit the top with “Can We Fix it?”, whilst the last English performer to hit the top was Leona Lewis with “Bleeding Love” in January of 2008. Taio becomes the 186th English performer to hit No.1 here in Australia, and the 37th English Solo Male performer. I love how this statement was said so seriously and matter of fact  Is Bob really counted as a 'British solo male' and not a television character? In that case, he was robbed at the Brits!
August 29, 201014 yr Australia dont seem to hot on this era Kylie which is odd. Its definetely her best album since Fever.
