Jimmy Tarbuck was approached to present after Larry, but turned it down. Remarkabley BBC1 had turned down a version of Game For A Laugh, which they made a pilot of, with Paul Daniels in 1980! So, then the BBC turned to Noel Edmonds, & 1982 brought us the first season of the ill-fated & annoying "Late Late Breakfast Show", which got off to a bad start in the Ratings. Well ITV were still doing well with Game For A Laugh, & you either loved Edmonds or loathed him. I was on the latter side! Couldn't stand the man! In theory, the BBC kind of nicked the Game For A Laugh idea back, for Noel anyway. Which also included the even more annoying Mike "Smitty" Smith & the dreaded "Wheelie Wheel". The Top Albums in Sept 1982: Alison & Vince ruling & top marks for knocking off the Kids From Fame! Cliff with the biggest climber & a pretty good album, all be it for "The Only Way Out", no surprise for the crash down on the following week. Survivor were quite happy with their own album, as well as featuring on the Soundtrack to "Rocky III", just outside the top 20. Weren't so films, so overated with the basic same plot used again & again...and Burgess Meredith couldv'e still been the Penguin, for all it mattered and Sly Stallone...well! 01 NE UPSTAIRS AT ERICS - YAZOO 02 01 KIDS FROM FAME - KIDS FROM FAME 03 02 TOO-RYE-AY - DEXY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS 04 06 RIO - DURAN DURAN 05 04 LEXICON OF LOVE - ABC 06 18 NOW YOU SEE ME NOW YOU DON'T - CLIFF RICHARD 07 03 LOVE & DANCE - LEAGUE UNLIMITED ORCHESTRA 08 05 TROPICAL GANGSTERS - KID CREOLE 09 07 COMPLETE - MADNESS 10 13 LOVE SONGS - COMMODORES 11 10 FAME - OST 12 12 TALKING BACK TO THE NIGHT - STEVE WINWOOD 13 08 EYE OF THE TIGER - SURVIVOR 14 09 AVALON - ROXY MUSIC 15 16 MIRAGE - FLEETWOOD MAC 16 15 SINGLES ALBUM - UB40 17 19 CONCERTS - JIMI HENDRIX 18 20 NON STOP ECSTATIC CABERAT - SOFT CELL 19 21 ROUGH DIAMONDS - BAD COMPANY 20 22 CONCERT IN CENTRAL PARK - SIMON & GARFUNKEL The Top Singles in Sept 1982: With Richard Allinson spinning the discs on Capital Radio's UK Top 30 show on Sunday's at 2.30 (an bit of con really, because they only played the top 15 by now). With many other Stations playing out the British Market Research Bureau chart, during the morning meaning you didn't have to listen to Tommy "what am I saying" Vance on Radio One! We were still on the never ending tv show "Fame"...the 80s Glee possibly? But some great clssics with Rocker's Revenge covering Eddie Grant. Toto Coelo featuring Bob Holness' daughter. Incidently Bob was actually the first James Bond, all be it in a Radio version. Dire Straits with a long one, as depressing as ever, although no Chris Rea! Shakin Stevens just scraped the top ten, but not on Radio One. Good advice from Haircut 100 & Be Nobody's Fool. THe Grandmaster Flash became a advert about crossing the road later. Modern Romance were lost in the 50s. Sting doing Brimstone & Treacle the Dennis Potter play turned into film. Euro-pop via David Christie. We all loved Captain Sensible's "Wot" & of course another "What" via Soft Cell up there. Carly Simon was all over the radio, even Radio 2 played "Why". Oldies from Fun Boy Three & the Belle Stars...without mentioning a dodgy cover by Showaddywaddy, who'd just about finished with the chart by then & no surprise with a bad Barry Mann cover. 01 01 EYE OF THE TIGER - SURVIVOR 02 05 SAVE A PRAYER - DURAN DURAN 03 02 COME ON EILEEN - DEXY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS 04 03 WHAT - SOFT CELL 05 06 HI FIDELITY - KIDS FROM FAME 06 04 CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU - BOYSTOWN GANG 07 10 WALKING ON SUNSHINE - ROCKER'S REVENGE 08 07 I EAT CANNIBALS - TOTO COELO 09 21 PRIVATE INVESTGATIONS - DIRE STRAITS 10 20 GIVE ME YOUR HEART TONIGHT - SHAKIN' STEVENS 11 08 NOBODY'S FOOL - HAIRCUT 100 12 19 THE MESSAGE - GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE 13 31 ALL OF MY HEART - ABC 14 18 TODAY - TALK TALK 15 16 CHERRY PINK & APPLE BLOSSOM WHITE - MODERN ROMANCE 16 09 FAME - IRENE CARA 17 11 JOHN WAYNE IS BIG LEGGY - HAYSI FANTAYZEE 18 22 SPREAD A LITTLE HAPPINESS - STING 19 14 BIG FUN - KOOL AND THE GANG 20 37 THERE IT IS - SHALAMAR 21 17 WHITE BOYS AND HEROES - GARY NUMAN 22 23 UNDER THE BOARDWALK - TOM TOM CLUB 23 13 DON'T GO - YAZOO 24 35 SADDLE UP - DAVID CHRISTIE 25 42 WHY - CARLY SIMON 26 36 LEAVE IN SILENCE - DEPECHE MODE 27 38 SO HERE I AM - UB40 28 26 HURRY HOME - WAVELENGTH 29 12 IT STARTED WITH A KISS - HOT CHOCOLATE 30 32 WOT - CAPTAIN SENSIBLE 31 NE INVITATIONS - SHAKATAK 32 44 LOVE COME DOWN - EVELYN KING 33 27 18 CARAT LOVE AFFAIR - ASSOCIATES 34 39 WINDPOWER - THOMAS DOLBY 35 27 SUMMERTIME - FUN BOY THREE 36 15 STRANGE LITTLE GIRL - STRANGLERS 37 25 CLAPPING SONG - BELLE STARS 38 33 LOVE IS IN CONTROL - DONNA SUMMER 39 41 GLITTERING PRIZE - SIMPLE MINDS 40 NE WHO PUT THE BOMP - SHOWADDYWADDY The Top Pre-Order Singles this week: 01 NE SHAME - ROBBIE & GARY 4th Oct 02 02 IT'S NOT WAR JUST THE END OF LOVE - MANICS 13th Sept 03 NE ISLAND - PENDULUM 20th Sept 04 05 I'M IN LOVE - ALEX GAUDINO 20th Sept 05 NE BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT - LOVE PART II 13th Sept The Top Pre-Order Albums this week: 01 04 A THOUSANDS STARS - LINKIN PARK 13th Sept 02 NE SCIENCE & FAITH - SCRIPT 13th Sept 03 02 tba - TAKE THAT 22nd Nov 04 03 IN & OUT OF CONSCIOUSNES 1990-2010 - ROBBIE WILLIAMS 11th Oct 05 06 BAND OF JOY - ROBERT PLANT 13th Sept Fed up with the ever growing hype of Robbie yet? He turned on the lights at Blackpool last Friday. That was covered by so called local Radio...in Wales, Scotland, & England! None of the Stations that took it, are anywhere near Blackpool (the coldest place in England usually)! :teresa: It was all compered by Mark Goodier, who actually managed to get the day right, unlike a couple of weeks back on his Smooth Radio morning show, kept trying to tell us that Thursday was actually Friday...can you believe! Poor Mark, he's getting old these days at 49. Hang on for the top 75 lowdown, but first let's take a look at the ever shrinking top physical singles: 01 NE MCFLY 02 01 OLLY MURS 03 NE ALEXANDRA 04 NE ALESHA 05 03 WANTED 06 02 RUMER 07 07 ROLL DEEP 08 06 HURTS 09 05 SATURDAYS 10 09 TAIO CRUZ Hang around...and find out why 2 songs will not feature in the so called "Official Chart" this weekend, but do on our chart!
September 10, 201014 yr Hang around...and find out why 2 songs will not feature in the so called "Official Chart" this weekend, but do on our chart! Presumably Greg Street - Turn My Swag On and #1 Bruno Mars Tribute Band - Just The Way You Are?
September 10, 201014 yr Good to see LP top of pre-orders, them being ahead of The Script bodes well for next week. Just hope they cling onto that top 40 singles position now. Edited September 10, 201014 yr by MancunianGiraffe
September 10, 201014 yr Alex #3 on physicals, surprised at that, thought she would definitely beat Olly's 2nd week total.
September 10, 201014 yr nice to see the Manics high up in the pre-order singles chart, would be good if they could get a high new entry with (It's Not War) Just The End Of Love I can't really see it fitting in with the usual ITunes buyers so it probably won't get to No1 but top 3 would be a good result
September 10, 201014 yr Author The big finish, with the top 75 lowdown, or should it be top 77? What do we say about Alex Street & the non allowed Milward Brown entry? I say this: The chart is supposed to be about what people have bought. If something is excluded for whatever reason (in this case it's about non-registration), it makes a chart a farce. Whers's Brian Rix! It's supposed to be a survey about the general public's music purchases. Why should an act, have to register with some Market Research company? They do the research, so it shouldn't make any difference! The same thing applies to the Bruno Mars #1 Tribute Band too...Not here it don't. You buy it, we survey it! Now, I would say don't forget The Fresh Hit40UK across the Net on Sunday at 4pm, but as we now broadcast from Spain, the internet connection over there is not great, so expect break ups on the feeds if you listen at HeartFMSpain.com
September 10, 201014 yr Thanks Dave Do you think the XX will pull ahead of Hurts on the albums by Sunday? I hope they can stay top 5 at least...
September 10, 201014 yr Thanks for the update-please explain Ms Burke does it again easily-how big a lead does she have and is she secure until Sunday.
September 10, 201014 yr Thanks for the update-please explain Ms Burke does it again easily-how big a lead does she have and is she secure until Sunday. There's absolutely no way she won't be #1, you can relax. :P
September 10, 201014 yr Author Dave could you tell us why the OCC made an error with Turn My Swag On? I thought I had. It's a case of the track not being registered by the artist, to Milward Brown/OCC. So, it doesn't get a code, or a chart position. So, they ignore any sales. In this case, we are talking about some nearly 20,000 sales! We always include them in our lists, because we don't have any rules. If it's purchased, we`ll include it. Radio One won't feature it on Sunday. Any sales will go to the original Soulja Boy version only, with Greg Street ignored by them altogether.
September 10, 201014 yr Surely Soulja Boy should be at least top 70? He's had a version top 75 and another around the lower end of the top 100 on iTunes practically all week. (they're now at 81 & 166) Edited September 10, 201014 yr by ~ braysephone ~
September 10, 201014 yr I don't understand. If you've lumped it together surely it should be top 70...?
September 10, 201014 yr Author I don't understand. If you've lumped it together surely it should be top 70...? Oh yeah, I see what you mean. I'd not put that one on the list! But I have now.
September 10, 201014 yr There's absolutely no way she won't be #1, you can relax. :P Glad to hear no read it!
September 10, 201014 yr Are we sure Soulja Boy will be played on Radio 1? It's not appeared in the mid-weeks or anything. If the most popular version's sales get completely ignored, rather than combined with the other versions, it will miss the top 40 anyway. Also nice to see Illuminated and Higher in the top 70! Edited September 10, 201014 yr by Eric_Blob
September 11, 201014 yr Bright Light Bright Light top 5 on pre-orders? :o Hope Last ones standing is top 40 this sunday.
September 11, 201014 yr Author Are we sure Soulja Boy will be played on Radio 1? It's not appeared in the mid-weeks or anything. If the most popular version's sales get completely ignored, rather than combined with the other versions, it will miss the top 40 anyway. It will not appear on Radio One. But it should coz lots of people have paid for it.
September 11, 201014 yr It will not appear on Radio One. But it should coz lots of people have paid for it. I think out of respect for the chart and for what is popular for the week (in sense of downloads), they should play the version and then mention the reason why its ineligible to chart. That way it gets added without it being overlooked.
