Posted September 4, 201014 yr Don't miss this thriller drama based on a true case of stalking. A DS poster has a New Zealand DVD release and says it's "excellent and a must-see" Based on the true story of stalker Maria Marchese, a patient whose dangerous obsession with a doctor threatens everything he had worked towards.
September 4, 201014 yr Also it stars the excellent David Morrissey who seems to have been in just about every great British thriller/drama of the last few years. I'll probably watch it since good drama on ITV is so bloody rare.
September 5, 201014 yr Mixed feelings about the programme in the end. It was well-acted - the woman who played Maria Marchese was frightningly convincing and Tara Fitzgerald was very decent as Debbie. Everybody was perfectly solid too. However the portrayal of Jan was SO unsympathetic I found it pretty hard to care about the 'effect' that being stalked had on him - not that we saw any of it. And Debbie said she'd been so low she'd contemplated suicide. Did we see that? Nope. We saw Jan being a throroughly unlikeable bast*rd to absolutely everybody presumably because he was 'under stress'. I didn't actually give a shit about any of the characters, Debbie aside. I probably had more sympathy for Maria Marchese than Jan! It had potential but if it had been, say, a 3 part drama on the BBC I feel sure it would've been much more satisfying. Also it was aired well over a year ago in New Zealand and ITV have left it lingering in their vaults for that long - kind of suggests they didn't have much confidence in it.
September 5, 201014 yr Author She may be released on parole in 2 years. Be afraid. Be very afraid. She'd done it to another couple years before and was bound over to keep the peace.
September 5, 201014 yr I wasnt sure what to make of it really, it was interesting and kept my gripped I suppose but I just kept finding things in it which I didnt like. Usually dependable actors being a bit of a let-down, especialy Tara Fitzgerald in the courtroom though she was decent enough through the rest of it. The character of Jan was extremly baddly done though, extremly unlikeable through the majority of it. I felt it dragged on & on & on too, two hours was way too long for it. It was good enough but I wouldnt have missed out of anything had I decided to watch Ultimate Big Brother instead.
September 5, 201014 yr I thought it was quite well done, although like most people are saying the actor was mis-cast for Jan. I'd read about this particular case ages ago and couldn't not watch this.

Yeah, tbh, I actually kind of hoped he HAD gotten done for rape seeing as how this show has him acting like a total prick who you'd want to punch rather than feel sorry for.... I dunno, is the real-life Jan that much of a tool? He could quite conceivably sue ITV over their portrayal of him, because his behaviour on this show is almost as nutty as Marchese's really... Maria comes across as being scary as hell, but at the same time rather sad and pathetic... Do we ever really know why she did this..? TBH, I dont think that prison really is the right place for people like her, she's obviously very disturbed, she really needed to be in a secure mental unit indefintely....
