September 5, 201014 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?tod...3483&pages= Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles For a second week, Taio Cruz holds onto the No.1 ARIA Singles position with his track “Dynamite” (DL: 1 hold), the same position that the track landed in his home country this past week, debuting there in fact. Knocking on the No.1 door is the new No.1 album holder, Katy Perry and her latest track “Teenage Dream” (DL: 3 to 2) which creeps up a single place to a new peak of No.2. By doing so she not only pushed Eminem from the No.1 spot on the album charts, but she also swaps places with his latest single “Love the Way You Lie” (DL: 2 to 3) with Rihanna, down now to No.3. Flo Rida and David Guetta hold for a third week at No.4 with “Club Can’t Handle Me” (DL: 4 hold), and scoring her fourth Top 5 single is Ke$ha, who climbs to a new peak of No.5 with her fourth solo single “Take it Off” (DL: 7 to 5). Ke$ha moving up pushes Usher and Pitbull’s “DJ Got us Fallin’ in Love” (DL: 5 to 6, Phys: 7 to 11) down a place to No.6, which in turn drops Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull on “I Like it” (DL: 6 to 8) down to No.7 this week. Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” (DL: 8 to 7) and Adam Lambert’s “If I Had You” (DL: 9 to 10, Phys: 11 to 16) are steady at No.8 and No.9 respectively, but leaping into the Top 10 in only it’s second week in the Top 100 is a guy who is no stranger to the Top 10, although he visited said Top 10 as guest vocalist, now he’s calling the shots. Bruno Mars bullets thirty-three places to No.10 this week with his debut solo single “Just the Way You Are” (DL: 44 to 9). NEW PEAKS: Knocking on the Top 10 door at No.11 is the highest placed Australian act in the Top 100, Perth act Birds of Tokyo climb three places with “Plans” (DL: 14 to 11). Mike Posner only climbed a few places last week, but this week he’s up nine places to No.14 with his debut track “Cooler Than Me” (DL: 24 to 14). And a third Top 20 new peaking track is the third single from B.o.B, whose new single “Magic” (DL: 30 to 18) is up fourteen spots to No.18 this week. Lower down the Top 50, four Australian acts gain new peaks, with The John Butler Trio up seven places to No.34 with “Revolution” (DL: 42 to 33). The two previous singles from John’s “April Uprising” album (TW-14) peaked in their first week of charting, whilst this new single is making new peaks every week. Vanessa Amorosi’s “Holiday” is up five places to No.42, Bliss N’ Eso score a third Top 50 entry, and second consecutive Top 50 entrant from their “Running on Air” album (TW-7) as their new track “Addicted” is up thirteen places to No.45. The last of the local acts to break into the Top 50 this week are Little Red and their debut single “Rock it”, which is up five places to No.49. Lastly Kid Cudi jumps ten places with “Erase Me”, landing at No.50 this week. A group who haven’t graced the ARIA Singles Chart in almost 3 years (Nov 2007 was their last new entry “Misery”{HP-24}) score the highest new entry of the week, Good Charlotte, who debut at No.17 with “Like it’s Her Birthday” (DL: 17 debut), the lead single from the November 2010 due fifth studio album “Cardiology”. This is their thirteen singles chart entry, and instantly becomes their seventh Top 20 chart hit, their last two being their two Top 10 singles “Keep Your Hands Off My Girl” (HP-5, March 2007) and “Dance Floor Anthem” (HP-2, July 2007). The groups twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden were in the country the past week to promote their new material. Thomas DeCarlo Calloway is better known to the music world as Cee-Lo Green, originally a member of the rap group Goodie Mob, then solo and later as one half of the duo Gnarls Barclay who scored a No.2 single with their debut single “Crazy” (May 2006). His second Top 40 chart entry is his first solo single entitled “F**k You” (DL: 25 debut), which debuts at No.26 this week. I say second Top 40 entry, as he was the featured guest vocalist on Trick Daddy’s 2005 single “Sugar (Gimme Some)” (May, HP-31), and has charted once before in a duet with actor Jack Black (also from ‘Tenacious D.’) in a version of “Kung Fu Fighting” (HP-77, July 2008), taken from the film ‘Kung Fu Panda’. This is the first single from his December due third album “The Lady Killer”. Below Top 50: Similar to the lower part of the Top 50, the lower half of the chart has a lot of new peaks from local acts. Pendulum climb five places to No.56 with their new single “Witchcraft”, and jumping fifteen places to No.59 is Zoe Badwi and her first Top 100 entry “Freefallin’”. A third dance act, The Bag Raiders, climb nine places to No.68 with their second single “Way Back Home”. And lastly Brisbane group Washington is up eighteen places to No.78 with their latest single “Sunday Best”. Two new entries up top, and two new entrants lower down the charts this week. The third single from Brian McFadden’s “Wall of Soundz” album makes an early chart appearance at No.83 entitled “Mistakes”. This is a duet with his fiancée Delta Goodrem, their second, although their first was before their engagement, back in March of 2005 they debuted at No.1 with their love ballad “Almost Here” which went on to be the 14th biggest hit of that year. With the singles official launch this coming week, expect this song to shoot up the charts next week. New Zealander Dane Rumble makes his ARIA Top 100 Chart debut at No.94 with a song called “Always Be Here”. Borrowing heavily (IMO) from Rick Springfield’s 1982 catalogue (those hard bass strokes do sound similar), this New Zealand solo male artist was originally a member of the rap group The Fast Crew before he went solo in early 2009. This was his first solo in his home country, and peaked at No.13 in April 2009, and has since been followed by two more singles, his album “The Experiment”, and collaborated with J.Williams on the No.2 single “Takes Me Higher”. History is also made on the ARIA Top 100 singles chart this week, as the first song to EVER to clock up 100 weeks on the chart occurs. Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” re-enters the Top 100 at No.92 this week, but from the table below you can see that three of the Top 5 and five of the Top 20 tracks with the ‘Longest Top 100 Chart Run’ are currently on the charts. Re-entering also this week at No.71 is Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars”, helped back into the charts by two factors this week. On Monday night it was sung by Megan Washington (from Washington) on ‘Good News Week’, and then later in the week it was sung again on the new season of the reality TV series ‘X Factor’, which this week helps the song back into the charts for it’s 65th week, and it has still only peaked at No.53!! Below is a list of the 20 longest running singles for the Top 100 (* denotes still charting) No. WI (WA) HP Most Week in Top 100 1 100* (8) 1 Poker Face Lady GaGa 2 93* (2) 5 Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it) Beyonce 3 87a (1) 1 Just Dance Lady GaGa 4 79a (2) 1 SexyBack Justin Timberlake 5 76* 4 Hot N' Cold Katy Perry 6 76 14 My People The Presets 7 73a 24 I Love it Sneaky Sound System 8 72a (4) 1 Straight Lines Silverchair 9 72 (4) 1 So What P!nk 10 72 (3) 1 Low Flo Rida feat T-Pain 11 71a (2) 1 Love Story Taylor Swift 12 68a (5) 1 Flaunt it TV Rock feat Seany B 13 68a (3) 6 Black Fingernails Red Wine Eskimo Joe 14 68 (5) 4 Second Solution / Prisoner of Society The Living End 15 67a 3 I'm Yours Jason Mraz 16 65 5 Don't Hold Back The Potbelleez 17 65a 18 Not Ready to Make Nice Dixie Chicks 18 65* (7) 1 I Gotta Feeling Black Eyed Peas 19 65* 53 Chasing Cars Snow Patrol 20 64a 2 Viva la Vida Coldplay Albums Katy Perry’s first album “One of the Boys” took eleven weeks to peak at No.11 (mid-October 2008, TW-46), but her second album “Teenage Dream” instantly debuts at No.1 in a very close race to the top of the ARIA Albums Chart this week, as there are four debuts within the Top 5. “Teenage Dream” is the 618th No.1 album in Australia (1965-2010), and the fourth by a female artist to be at No.1 during 2010, but the first to debut at the top this year. Susan Boyle was at the top until early February having been there since December last year. k.d. Lang jumped up to No.1 with her “Recollection” set twice (March and May), and Lady GaGa spent all of April at the top with “Fame Monster” album. “Teenage Dream” is the first album to hit No.1 that features the word ‘Teenage’ in it’s title, but is the tenth album to feature a ‘Dream’, the last being the Susan Boyle’s album “I Dreamed a Dream”. With Katy being an American Female Singer, she becomes the 29th such performer to hit No.1 here, with the 82nd album by an American Solo Female act. She is also the 128th American act to hit the top of the Australian Album Charts, and “Teenage Dream” is the 223rd album by an American performer to have hit No.1. Before I mention the other new entries to the Top 10, I will go through the state of play of the rest of the Top 10. Eminem’s nine week reign at No.1 with his “Recovery” album is of course over, and that set slips down to No.4, whilst last weeks No.2 debut for Stan Walker, “From the Inside Out” drops down four places to No.6. Three more local acts follow Stan, with Bliss N’ Eso’s “Running on Air” up next at No.7, Washington’s “I Believe You Liar” at No.8 and Angus & Julia Stone’s “Down the Way” down a notch to No.9. Slash holds the No.10 position with his self titled album, down one place from last week. This week becomes only the second time this century those four albums have debuted in the Top 5, although we did have a Top 3 debut back in June when Jackson Johnson, The Twilight 3 Soundtrack and Christina Aguilera all came in at 1, 2 and 3 respectively. We have to go back to May in 2008 when to find the last time that the Top 5 was inundated with new albums. Madonna’s “Hard Candy” at No.1, Andre Rieu’s “Waltzing Matilda” at No.2, Damien Leith with “Catch the Wind” at No.3 and Carl Riseley with “The Rise” debuted at No.5 So the second of our four Top 5 entry is the fifth album for American rock band Disturbed debuts at No.2 this week, entitled “Asylum” it becomes their second Top 10 and Top 2 album, as their fourth album “Indestructible” landed at the top back in June of 2008. But in the meantime, Jimmy’s sixteenth studio album entitled “Rage and Ruin” debuts at No.3 this week. Of his eighteen charting albums (16 studio, 1 live, 1 best of), this now becomes Jimmy’s his fifteenth Top 10 album, all of which have made it to No.3 or higher inside the Top 10. The albums lead single “Jellylegs” has already peaked at No.72, and the second single “My Eagle” was just released recently. I mentioned earlier about our Father’s Day here, and sales of Dad-slanted titles have jumped up the charts this week. John Butler Trio’s “April Uprising” is up seventeen places to No.14. Dixie Chicks and their “Essential” collection are also up seventeen places, this week to No.16. Up nine places is the latest collection from Bruce Springsteen, his “Greatest Hits” set climbs to No.17. Melinda Schneider is up thirteen places (and a new peak) to No.27 with her “Melinda Does Doris” collection, and another local country artist makes the biggest jump of the week, up fifty-nine places to No.36 is John Williamson’s collection “Absolute Greatest: 40 Years True Blue”. Powderfinger kicked off their farewell tour this week, which sees their “Golden Rule” album up eight places to No.30. The last new entry I will mention this week debuts at No.18, “Women and Children Last” is the second album from American horror punk group Murderdolls, who released their first album “Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls” way back in 2002, which didn’t chart here, but has become something of an underground classic over the years. Band member Joey Jordison from Slipknot is one of their group’s members, the other main artist in the group is Wednesday 13, who released solo material in between the group’s two albums.
September 5, 201014 yr Delighted for Katy perry, Gutted she couldn't do the double Album Number 1 In America Single Number 2 Same as In Australia and Canada.
September 8, 201014 yr I find it fascinating at Snow Patrol's longevity on a global scale as wel as here in the UK. The fact it never made it any higher than #53 is staggering :o
