October 29, 201212 yr I don't think it's a big deal for a black actor to play bond. Look at the actress who is playing Moneypenny. Would be a bit different for Bond though... I can't see it ever happening, although you never know.
October 30, 201212 yr Does Skyfall continue with the "re-boot"? Daniel Craig said in an interview that it didn't continue from his previous films, but the way this new Moneypenny was introduced make it sound like its the same Moneypenny as before. By the way, the film was awesome! Brilliant opening sequence, shooting scene in the court (my adrenaline was so high during that scene!), the scenes in Bond's childhood home with the Home Alone style booby-traps, and of course, the final scenes. I'm not surprised that people are saying it is the best Bond film! The new Q fitted in perfectly too.

I guess it still continues as the reboot, although continuity is the last thing Bond films should be worrying about.

October 30, 201212 yr It's one of the first things I worry about tbh! Actors is something to be worried about, but there were some poor sets of continuity in Skyfall. It's hard to do, so there's no point taking it seriously and wondering whereabouts this film goes in the realm of Bond films.
October 30, 201212 yr Just got back from seeing this. I'm still in a state of shock. It's everything I wanted but nothing like what I imagined. It's as great as Casino Royale but totally different in tone etc. I'm still processing it but I think it's fair to say it might be the most beautiful film I've ever seen on a visual level. In particular the entire final act in Scotland was breathtaking. I couldn't believe how gorgeous the cinematography was. Getting Sam Mendes in to direct was a stroke of genius, he has to do the next one. Bond has never looked so good. The first half of the film seemed almost un-Bond like - a cold colour pallette, minimal dialogue - but it was clever really because you realise that reflected the situation MI6 was in of having to prove its relevance in a world that's been changed by technology. Once the action moved up to Scotland and became a human story about Bond and M, the film felt much more typically Bond. The very final scenes with the reveal of Moneypenny etc caught me totally by surprise - such a fabulous way to end a film which delivered just the right number of twists and surprises without the story being too convoluted. Best Bond villain in years and years, maybe ever. I liked Eve and Severine despite not having major roles to play in the story. Judi Dench was incredible. 11/10.
October 31, 201212 yr I saw this on Monday. I have never expected a HUGE amount from Bond in the past (this brings the total of films I know I've watched to 5 and it slots in at #2 behind Goldeneye) but this was very enjoyable. The reintroductions of Q and Eve Moneypenny were very welcome as I immensely enjoyed what both actors brought and they stood out in any scene they were in. I thought it very clever, especially with Q and his basic gadgets, how they tied this in to MI6 looking towards the future and having to deal with a new world. Yeah, that was a good aspect of the film. Villain was a fairly good maniac, mostly what I expected but chillingly informed most of the time. I could see M's death coming but it was very well handled and Judi Dench was great as always. Very good film overall.
November 2, 201212 yr This continues to destroy box office records in the UK - $6.8m taken on Monday (the previous Monday record was $5.2m) and it's also smashed the record for highest first-week gross ever. They could be looking at $700m+ globally when all is said and done. And at 8.3 on imdb it's currently the highest scoring of all the Bonds. I'm seeing it again on Tuesday :D
November 2, 201212 yr Author I've actually seen the movie again, I must admit seeing it the second time still blew me away, just never got boring, I don't usually watch movies twice, the last time I watched a movie twice was Raiders Of The Lost Ark, I was meant to watch Avengers Assemble again, but never got round to it. Has to be the best Bond movie ever for me.
November 2, 201212 yr Lot's of my friends have seen it twice too. I might be going again with my dad. I don't think I've ever seen a film in cinema twice within such a small period of time (I watched Toy Story 3 twice but with like 4 weeks in between and I didn't particularly want to see it again).
November 2, 201212 yr I saw it today and thought it was very good... I've only seen the previous three and don't remember much of those, but I enjoyed it for what it was! It was very British and I loved the reintroduction of Miss Moneypenny - I had no idea who Q was though, and was confused as to why everybody was named after letters of the alphabet. His character was very funny though. The final scenes in Scotland were great though, and the ending worked so much better than how I remember Quantum of Solace's ending (which seemed very sudden).
November 4, 201212 yr In the next film, I would like to see Bond actually get the girl at the end. Unfortunately, people are right fannies these days and see it as sexist and inappropriate! :drama:
November 4, 201212 yr They can't really win because people want a Bond which is closer to the original vision in the Connery films and the novels, but they also don't want the misogyny that comes with that. Bond is somebody who sees women as a conquest or a means to an end by and large. I don't think they need to pussyfoot around that just to satisfy the feminists who demand that the Bond girls be his equal in every respect.
November 4, 201212 yr Going to finally see this tomorrow! And for the record Idris Elba would be absolutely incredible. Such a simple, yet powerful and dominating actor!
November 5, 201212 yr Watched SKyfall and loved it all! Some MORON had a status last night revealing that M dies!!!!!! so i was watching the whole time just for that moment! Some of the locations were breathtaking, the throwbacks to earlier films were funny, but i wasn't too big a fan on the opening credits. Edited November 5, 201212 yr by HausofKubrick
November 6, 201212 yr Some MORON had a status last night revealing that M dies!!!!!! so i was watching the whole time just for that moment! I bet that ruined the film slightly - I was totally none the wiser about M dying, even after she was shot. I know I was joking with my friends that have already seen it about telling everyone about the ending, but I wouldn't ever really do it and spoil something like that!

Made the court room scene SO intense though, as i thought it would happen there!.
November 6, 201212 yr I went into the film guessing quite strongly that M would die (as she's been there for ages/I might have read something, can't remember), so I was waiting the whole film for it. I agree with you, HoK, on the court scene though, really makes you worried for M right then. That might have actually added to my enjoyment (especially as I didn't have it confirmed).
November 6, 201212 yr It did in effect. Made the court room scene SO intense though, as i thought it would happen there!. I thought it was intense even without knowing! I was literally shaking and sweating during that scene!
November 11, 201212 yr This is now at $517m worldwide after taking $90m during opening weekend in the US. Biggest Bond ever! SMASH.
