1. The Saturdays - Higher (1) (CR-10-8-5-8-11-15-1-1) I listened to this again the other day, and it is a pretty great song. Not sure if it'll get a number one on my chart though!

19. Monrose - This Is Me (NEW) (CR-19) Great to see this charting! It's most definitely their best song!

Duffy - Well, Well, Well I've yet to hear this, is it similar to her old stuff?

KT Tunstall - Difficulty I adore the album, I was expecting a sea of blandness, but was pleasantly surprised. It's nowhere near Eye To The Telescope in terms of quality, but it's a vast improvement on DF

Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World) Heard this the other day, was slightly underwhelmed. Hopefully it'll grow on me

Thanks Theo! We'll see if Cheryl gets to #1, looks like it will be a big battle this week - currently about 4 songs in the running, and Higher isn't one of them :o Tinie's album is very good actually, the singles and the last few tracks in particular. Pass Out was a huge grower, although I never really got into Frisky.

Thanks Ghosty! Yep, as you know I'm a bit strapped for time so I had to reduce it so I thought I might as well do it when I had a fairly dead week so that it was easier  This week looks set to be a lot harder and I almost think I should extend it but then that would defeat the object

1. It's really good. I think two weeks will be it's lot at the top for me though, at least for now.

2. Well yeah, or at least the producers made it look like she had one by telling her which contestants to pick :drama: It's a brilliant song!

19. Agreed :D

The Duffy song is a bit odd. It samples an old 90's song for the backing and she trills over the top - it would sound the same as her old stuff if not for the sample in the background. It's far from an amazing song but it's good. Yep, KT's album is really enjoyable, particularly the first half - the last few tracks are forgettable. Sounds so much more authentic than Drastic Fantastic. Rihanna's song again is good but it's incredibly generic and plain and I'm not quite sure why BuzzJack are raving over it. It will struggle to make my top 20 and I'm a huge fan of hers usually.

, well I imagine Eurovision and Melodifestivalen season will make your chart incredibly hard to do :o Are you going to extend to a top 40/50 around that time?

02 - The producers tell the judges who to pick? :o That's a bit unfair on the judges and contestants. Whoever thought Katie would be a good act to put through over Trayc or Gamu needs to be sacked.

The Duffy song sounds interesting, hope it's a good song they've sampled. Buzzjack always seems to loon over the average fempop stuff :kink:

Oh god, I hadn't even considered that  we'll see I guess, I don't want to keep fiddling around with the format but when I finish the course I might put it back to a top 50 anyway.

2. I don't know for sure, but it's all over the papers that Cheryl was forced not to pick Gamu because of some concerns over her visa, and told to pick Katie because she'd be better entertainment value. I'm no huge fan of Gamu but I do think that Trey-C was robbed - her version of You've Got The Love knocked Florence out of the water - and I love Florence!

It samples a Stereo MC's song apparently but it reminds me of C+C Music Factory, the one that has a big powerhouse diva screaming 'everybody dance now' at the start. Indeed, Rihanna was the queen round here until Dame Katy Perry arrived back on the scene

How long is the course?

02 - Oh right, that is a fair explaination as to why she didn't choose Gamu, but Trey-C has been robbed two years in a row now - she should have gone through last year over Jamie Afro. Every song I've seen her do has been amazing and had they not fiddled around with the age limits she'd definitely have made the final 12 as one of the over 25's - along with Matt and Mary probably.

Oh dear, people sampling early 90's dance tunes makes me cringe - it's a genre I absolutely can't stand. I was hoping she'd do something a bit more interesting than that :( .

9 months, finishes at the beginning of July next year.

2. Yeah I agree there definitely. And that over 25's group would have been incredibly strong in that case had they left it be.

Really? 90's dance is one of my favourite ever genres  Granted not the really early on stuff like Snap's The Power, Adamski and C&C Music Factory, but I loved everything from about 1994 onwards like Alex Party, N-Trance, Berri, Strike, Haddaway and The Real McCoy etc...

Ooh! :o I actually can't guess any of the four, but maybe Nadine (due to the video - however $h!t it is!), a Tinie Tempah album track? And Cheryl ofc, no idea who else though. :P

'Frisky' was alright, but I didn't like it enough to chart it. The instrumental is very catchy though.

I didn't know you were going to attempt it :heehee: you've got one right, I'll say that much :funky:

I didn't chart it either. It's the only single of his that I haven't charted.

Oh right, do you know if you're planning to stay in Wrexham after that or moving back to Brighton?

Yeah it's the really early 90's dance that I hate, 2Unlimited aside, and that's the stuff that usually gets sampled sadly. Like you, 94 onwards is where I start to like more dance music.

Not sure yet, depends on what happens with the course I guess...if there's no prospect of me getting a job up here I'll probably move back. I'm quite happy up here but it's difficult not seeing my family very often.

Ah right, that's understandable, I'm not a huge fan either really. I don't know why it's the most popular to sample...the 90's were very poor all round until about 1994, when I was compiling my top 100 of the 90's, I must have had less than 10 tracks from the first three years of the decade

Yeah, that must be hard. Is Sainsbury's going well?

I'd probably have a similar problem. No Limit, Kirsty Maccoll's My Affair and Duran Duran's Ordinary World are the only three songs I can think of from those 3 years that I'd probably put in a Top 100 of the 90's. Nothing Compares 2 U might scrape in too.

It is, I like everything else - I don't even miss Brighton that much tbh. It is, it's nice to feel like I'm living a completely new and independent life and making new friends without having to fall back on people, but at the same time it's a big change so it's not easy! We'll see how it goes, but the experience is good at least if nothing else!

I can't even remember what I included from those years - Take That's Pray and Could It Be Magic, They Might Be Giants' Birdhouse In Your Soul, Wilson Philips' Hold On...not many more others I don't think  And then I had an absolute ton from 1998, over 20 songs I think

Definitely! Have you gone many places outside of Wrexham yet?

95, 96, 98 and 99 would probably be my strongest years. Most if not all of the Steps singles from the 90's would probably appear too

I've been to Chester, Liverpool, Whitchurch, Mold and Oswestry so far! When we go to the coast we've decided to go to Llandudno, it's apparently better than the others we were considering.

Agreed definitely, 97 wasn't as strong as the four surrounding it.

Cool, yeah Llandudno is probably the best even if it is the furthest away.

Indeed. Maybe just over an hour on the train so not too bad. I'm intrigued by the shape of the place and that it has beaches on both sides of the town!
