Overrated? Maybe yes but this is easily Tinie's best single to date. It's his first chart hit for as 'Pass Out' never charted although it very slowly grew on me. 'Frisky' however is still as $h!t as it was the first time I heard it.

Nah, not for me it isn't. Ke$ha 'TiK ToK' is by far her biggest hit in my chart peaking at no. 2 behind 'Bad Romance' although Lady GaGa dominated my chart for 7 weeks.

Very overplayed here. Catchy though.

 

I reckon 'Club Can't Handle Me' is "overplayed" in most countries. It is very radio friendly though as it owes a hell of a lot to both David Guetta and most especially 'I Gotta Feeling'.

Unlike me then, I'm a massive fan of 'Forget You!' (yes, I'm charting the clean version used in the video :P ). Could provide Cee Lo Green with his third no. 1 in my chart after Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' and as featured vocalist on Kelis 'Lil Star'.

 

03 (04) Mohombi - Bumpy Ride

Been charting this for a while now, great song.

 

It's on the UK release schedule for next week but I've not seen the video once on any of our music channels. So expect a massive flop next week for Mohombi in the UK. However, my personal chart has been more influenced by European chart than most previous years. I see this making my top 10 purely because it's simply a fun summertime song.

 

 

04 (06) Alexis Jordan - Happiness

My favourite song at the moment. Her vocals are amazing, and fit the sample perfectly.

 

I was really impressed with this song from the first time I heard it. One thing I discovered is that Alexis appeared on America's Got Talent and this is how she managed to secure herself a record contract. This is one of those songs I can't predict how it'll fare - it'll either be a top 10 hit or flop completely.

 

05 (--) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)

Huge grower for me

 

Some songs always require a few listens before I can really make a judgement but in this instance, I loved this song from the first time I heard it. Rihanna's soaring vocals are ace in the chorus proving that Rihanna is one of the hottest US solo female acts in the '00s. Whenever Rihanna releases her greatest hits, it's gonna be full to the brim with brilliant tracks.

 

06 (10) Armin Van Buuren Vs Sophie Ellis Bextor - Not Giving Up On Love

This is the definition of "grower" - wasn't sure at first but like it much more now. I don't think Armin will ever beat 'In And Out Of Love' which made no. 2 for me in January 2009 - kept off the top by Lady GaGa 'Just Dance'.

One of their best.

 

Yes, I was impressed with this song when I first heard it. Like Rihanna, The Saturdays also seem to have a knack of releasing some decent quality pop music. I'd have expected 'Higher' to have climb more though on UK iTunes.

I don't mind the vocal version but like 'Pjanoo' by Eric Prydz, the track works perfectly fine in its original instrumental format. I'll be charting 'Bromance' as the original instrumental version.

What do you think of Armin's 2 biggest hits: Communication and Burned With Desire? I think they are brilliant trance songs :) The latter was actually playlisted on Radio 1 shockingly enough, not sure on the former since my archive for 2000 is very incomplete.

Totally agree. Some on Buzzjack think this sounds like it's from 2008 but who actually cares when the song great. From the opening synth riff, I was really impressed with this track. Shame it never managed top 20 but alas this is The Wombats highest charting single beating the no. 9 peak of 'Let's Dance To Joy Division'.

 

09 (--) Tinie Tempah feat. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars (09) [1 wk] I'm not into this genre at all, but this track works for me, its got the likeable factor and better from his previous 2 hits.

 

This track is really strong and it proves its worth with opening week sales of 115k sold this week. Outselling what both 'Pass Out' and 'Frisky' sold in their first weeks of release. I wouldn't rule out Tinie selling over 50k of his album this week.

This, as well as Aloe Blacc at #11, have been my most listened to tracks from the recent Unknown Pleasures competition. In retrospect, Band Of Skulls should have received my 15 points, Aloe Blacc my 12 and Kent my 10. It better reflects how much I enjoy these songs now compared to when I originally voted.

Well, McFly have never been able to build on a decent chart run. Their singles have always been frontloaded and once the physical release has passed, McFly just plummet liked a lead balloon.

What do you think of Armin's 2 biggest hits: Communication and Burned With Desire? I think they are brilliant trance songs :) The latter was actually playlisted on Radio 1 shockingly enough, not sure on the former since my archive for 2000 is very incomplete.

 

I can't remember these songs off the top of my head. Would need to have a listen on YouTube and see if they job my memory.

Mind you, it doesn't bode well when Kylie's second single off an album fails to go top 10. 'In My Arms' was the third single but still managed to just scrape into the top 10. :o

Bruno Mars has defined 2010 for me - excellent singer/songwriter and fully deserves all the success he's getting. 'Nothin' On You', 'Billionaire', 'Just The Way You Are' and now 'Forget You!' which Bruno wrote. Imo, all these are excellent songs and completely worthy of my #1 spot. :D

Yes, I did listen to 'Heart is Strange' on Saturday but after one listen it didn't really make much of an impression on me. I'm listening to the song now on YouTube as you've brought it to my attention and I'm thinking it's ok but I don't regard this as a brilliant track. :(

 

If this was Unknown Pleasures, I'd have listened to this about 3 or 4 times to see if my opinion changed with more listens.

Didn't you download the tracks from UPII? Thing is with UPII taking place in the Indie forum, I was surprised that a track like this was entered as it's hardly indie imo. About as indie as Thalia!!! :drama: :cry:

 

Shame about Sia, I don't understand why the UK music buying public can't be introduced to tracks like 'Clap Your Hands'. I'm sure there would be market in the UK for this type of music but if people don't get to hear it, they ain't gonna buy it. -_- I've come to the conclusion that a #34 SMASH in the UK is better than nothing at all. It's not all about the UK charts anymore. If Sia can go top 10 in countries like Holland, Luxumburg, Faroe Islands and Slovenia (where Sia actually peaked at #1 :D ) then who cares what UK thinks. That said, it's great when the UK iTunes buying public get behind an excellent track and send it to no. 1, like 'Just The Way You Are' last week.

So many songs I don't even know. :( Sometimes I want to discover new music only finding out the songs in this forum section. :lol:

 

Five of this weeks new entries are taken from Unknown Pleasures; Band Of Skulls, Aloe Blacc, Kent, The Prototypes and Miami Beach. From the first Unknown Pleasures I only charted 3 tracks so the second contest had a bigger impact on my chart.

 

It's great though if someone looks at my chart and discovers a track they end up loving themselves.

Didn't you download the tracks from UPII? Thing is with UPII taking place in the Indie forum, I was surprised that a track like this was entered as it's hardly indie imo. About as indie as Thalia!!! :drama: :cry:

 

Shame about Sia, I don't understand why the UK music buying public can't be introduced to tracks like 'Clap Your Hands'. I'm sure there would be market in the UK for this type of music but if people don't get to hear it, they ain't gonna buy it. -_- I've come to the conclusion that a #34 SMASH in the UK is better than nothing at all. It's not all about the UK charts anymore. If Sia can go top 10 in countries like Holland, Luxumburg, Faroe Islands and Slovenia (where Sia actually peaked at #1 :D ) then who cares what UK thinks. That said, it's great when the UK iTunes buying public get behind an excellent track and send it to no. 1, like 'Just The Way You Are' last week.

I agree with you of course, there have been so many missed opportunities here in recent years - Jungle Drum springs instantly to mind. It's not like Sia is a complete unknown here I suppose. She's very big in indie circles and obviously went top ten with Taken For Granted, and is famous for being Zero 7's singer. My mind always mixes her up with Jo Whiley for some reason, they look quite similar :lol: Oh definitely, just look at Satellite, Wonderful Life, Alors On Danse, Waka Waka...all #21-30 megahits in the UK and actual hits everywhere else...will the depressing list ever end?
