Posted October 3, 201014 yr Danny's Chart: 3rd October 2010 >>>>>>>>>> COMMENTARY: After last weeks rather unusually static Top 3 which saw the previous weeks' high flyers merely rearranged slightly, there are two new singles in there however it is still Oxford band Foals who remain on top with "Spanish Sahara" for a third consecutive week. This now ties with "Balloons", the second single from their first album, which also managed a trilogy of chart topping weeks back in December 2007 and became that years Christmas number 1. The single in runners-up is from Deerhunter and the first to be taken from fourth studio album Halcyon Digest - "Revival" climbs 5-2 this week; "Nothing Ever Happened" is their only other charting single and reached a lowly #31 almost exactly 2 years ago in October 2008. Up next at 3 is "Madder Red" by Yeasayer which impressively becomes their 3rd Top 3 hit in 2010 after "O.N.E." and "Ambling Alp" managed to hit the top for 4 and 3 weeks in January and April respectively - this despite it's impressive video looks unlikely to make it 3 out of 3 as the Top 2 are miles ahead currently. The remainder of the Top 10 is fairly busy too with 5 other climbers: Maximum Balloon, which is David Andrew Sitek from TV On The Radio; jump 7-4 with "Groove Me" which features the fine vocals of Theophilus London , and as well as a 1 place climb from 9-8 for The Strange Death of Liberal England there are climbs into this weeks Top 10 for Cee Lo Green ("F**k You" up 12-7), Kurran and the Wolfnotes ("Your Four Limbs" climbing 13-9), and Zola Jesus ("Sea Talk" up 15-10). The highlights outside the Top 10 this week include Welsh band The Joy Formidable who continue to make impressive gains with new single "I Don't Want To See You Like This" which this week jumps 14 spots to #17 - although it still has a long way to go to top previous single "Popinjay", which managed to make #2 in the Spring. Kings of Leon return to the Top 20 with "Radioactive" at 19, and the more than impressive Claire Maguire whose "Ain't Nobody" (which isn't a cover) jumps to 26 ahead of its limited vinyl release on 18th October - Claire, a 21-year-old former shop assistant from Birmingham, has a powerful voice that has already impressed the likes of Jarvis Cocker, who has offered up a song for her forthcoming debut album!
