This is not going well at all. The very fact that The Flood may not even manage #2 is beyond shocking. Considering it is by far one of more normal and commercial songs on the album - I can't see the general public welcoming this new sound on the same level as the previous two TT album at all. Maybe they should have released something very MOR like 8 Letters to trick the public into thinking it was full of M&S backing tracks

I disagree! And to be fair ... The Flood isn't that far off an MOR M&S elevator song anyway. I feel a bit sorry for Rob in a way ... he was surely handed the duffest song on the album to sing. I suppose its a bit like the musical equivalent of The Apprentice ... I can see them all putting Rob forward as Project Manager.

Did you watch The Apprentice tonight? You knew at precisely 2 minutes past 9 that Alex was a goner!

I liked Alex actually but he just could not help himself  , how stupid was he not to bring Laura back into the board room , it sure backfired  I will miss him actually as he made good tv viewing, the others are a bit boring <_<

The Flood has dropped to #7 on Itunes. :o

This is seriously shocking. If their wider fan base (ie. the masses, not the die-hards on the forums) are not liking The Flood that much than they are going to be in for the shock of their lives when they hear the album as The Flood is without question one of the more commercial anthemic radio friendly TT sounding tunes on there.

I'd imagine the choice of second single is being re-considered, especially if they were going to go for Kidz which was rumored. I can imagine a lot of the management/record company scratching their heads - along with the five lads.

I still think it will have a huge increase in sales after the Docu (which will be seen by over 8M in all likely hood), the XF and then CIN on Friday. The main prob is the the album is out next week too so the majority will just buy that instead. They made a MASSIVE mistake bringing the single forward but not bothering bringing the promo forward too - and they are paying for that mistake big time now.

TBH I find it a little ironic that when Bodies came out and was only #2 everyone and their dog said it was a flop and Rob neded to get back with TT to revive his career - he then gets back with TT and what happens? The reunion single sold 10K less than Bodies on the first set of midweeks, is only #7 on Itunes and will be very lucky is it clears the 90K first week Bodies did.

It will be a travesty if it doesn't even make #2 - the idea of Shame charting higher is too laughable to contemplate

It is also a very boring song ... and maybe the boredom has driven people off it. I'm going to say something in favour of Shame (which I thought I never would) ... at least it had a bit of 'quirkiness' to it ... both the song and the video. The Flood is just so po-faced! It takes itself (as do they) far too seriously.

Also ... all this Rob/TT nonsense in the media is quite frankly ... getting on people's nerves.

I think you're wrong about what people's reaction will be to the rest of the album ... and they SHOULD have gone with one of the other 'different type' of song. They've chosen one that is just TOO close to what a bog-standard Take That / Robbie song sounds like in the first place.

Anyway ... I quite like the sound of the album (what I've heard) and will be buying it - I don't really care what others think of it.

I agree with you. The Flood's first airplay was on October 8th. Since then it has been played to death plus there hasn't been promotion for the single. Just wait and see how well the album will do. I'm not worried at all.

I just hope that The Flood's (lets face it ... quite disappointing) chart showing doesn't have a negative effect on the live performance on X-F. Yes I know that single success isn't the most important thing to them ... but deep down ... I do believe that Take That had no doubts about it going to number 1, given the hype surrounding this 'most momentous of reunions'. I wouldn't be surprised if confidences haven't been 'shaken' a little in some quarters. Given its poor showing (and #2 is a poor showing given the circumstances) I think it may have been wise for Take That to postpone the X-F performance until they had the number 1 album under their belt.

This is going to be one seriously crucial live performance this weekend.

It only enters at #8 in Ireland today :o :o :o

It is No 1 on iTunes  .... tbf De Niro can you really say that you are surprised, how often do you hear TT or Robbie on the radio over here....there are a whole new generation of radio listeners out there & they are not listening to this, hopefully though if the word gets out that this album is really good it might start getting badly needed airplay

Yeah I must say I have hardly heard The Flood at all on Irish radio. I wonder what number it is on our airplay charts? I have heard Shame far more often and that is saying something. <_<

It's still surprising that it only made #8 though.

Why on earth would be a crucial performance?

I mean crucial for themselves (not for chart position ... they've missed the boat well and truly for that one.) No casting doubts on Robbie as I've grown quite fond of him lately ... but he has had a few 'questionable' performances so far ... missing words ... needing to be prompted, etc. For their own sake they need a performance that is, to use a favourite phrase of Louis Walsh .... 110%. If they don't put in an absolutely excellent performance ... then I don't hold out much hope of them holding a series of concerts together. Do you?

Pete ... I can't believe that you don't believe that this X-Factor performance is important anyway.

Are you that sure airplay would make a difference? Seriously ... I've heard The Flood non-stop on the radio lately. Six times at work yesterday, minimum ... and the same today ... then once in the car coming home and once in the Co-Op tonight when I went out for some Galaxy Minstrels and a bottle of wine. If there is one thing that cannot be blamed for its relative poor chart showing ... it is airplay ... they've been handed more favours than most artists.

The song just hasn't got 'it'. Whatever 'it' is.

As much as I don't care for the song (well I don't hate it ... I just don't love it) I was hoping that they could go into this weekend's X-Factor performance being introduced as 'this week's number 1 act' for the sake of the performance.

Very true - that is a shame really. Hopefully it won't effect their performance in any way, especially if it only makes #3. I hope the performance goes very smoothly because I really do think if there are any problems (Rob better not forget lyrics ;) ) the media will have the knives at the ready - they have been very much on TT's side since the comeback but you never know, with Rob back (who most of the tabloids hate, especially The Mirror) they may see it as an opening to try and turn public opinion. It won't work obviously, but if the performance does not go very well - the mixture between that and the single failing to reach #1 they may try and start their crap the week of the album release and put people off. Hopefully not but they do just love to build people up and bring them down

With regard to airplay - it depends. Very little isnt going to translate into sales but too much can have a negative effect too which is likely what is happening in the UK.

Oddly enough ... in all of this ... I've been hearing Shame a lot lately ... and I've been singing along to it!
