Elvis started with that alright and on his b side bluegrass/ country song blue moon of Kentucky originally by Bill Monroe the legend of bluegrass, everyone stated saying he made music but he didnt before Elvis was country music, bluegrass, but before country music, the person who recorded a backing over vocals first that the one who started music, i like Elvis burning love is the best then suspicions mind is my favorite but, if he was born today and made music or audition on the x factor would he win, no, in my view he was lucky then, he may be like the beatles and currently sold the most singles and album worldwide but if he was on a talent show today or made music today he would not cope with others stars, so i like elvis not a big fan but got a couple cds. not crazy and not really hyped about him.

You cant compare an artist from 50 years ago to artists now lol

Will Joe McElderry still be scoring worldwide #1 hits in 30 years time? Will Joe McElderry even have a record contract in 10?

Like Dannyboy has said, Elvis was from a different era altogether - as were The Beatles. They became established artists through sheer hard work - the fact Elvis never wrote a single one of his hits is irrelevant. He was the ultimate showman and only Freddie Mercury was ever able to command the stage in the same way.

You're probably right though, we've probably had some extremely talented young boys and girls audition for The X Factor but because that's all they've got (ie; absolutely stunning vocal range and clearly fantastic singers) it's not good enough. The producers wants eccentric "personalities" so the UK produces the likes of Jedward, Chico (what time is it? :D ) and possibly Katie this year. It's a wonder Leona Lewis won The X Factor, I don't care if it was fixed in her favour - she can sing. Otherwise 2006 would've had Ray Quinn 'A Moment Like This' as the Xmas no. 1!!! :manson:

Yeah, and all the X Factor artists are lucky now, that all they have to do is sing for a few weeks to get a recording contract and insta-#1s

How many of them would have made it actually working to get into the music industry? Well we know that Leona couldn't do it despite trying for a good few years before she auditioned for the X Factor, so I fail to see how the likes of Joe (who has far less talent) would have.

Maybe Elvis was lucky that he was blessed with rather good looks and incredible charisma, but that's about it...

Thanks for making my monday so funny
Nor would Kate Bush, Davie Bowie, Sex Pistol, The Jam, Oasis, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Bob Marley. I could go on. Those artists stated above will still be regarded as legends, maybe not Blur but you catch my drift, in 10/20/30 years time whereas Joe McElderry and the like won't. Maybe, just maybe Leona and Will Young will still be remembered in 10 years but it's doubtful.

What do you mean with that? They had sales certifications for Germany back then to. And Germany is, or at least it was the third biggest Music market in the world. He also only have one number single single there compared to 9 with abba and Elvis was in the industri for over 20 years. Severel Scandinavian acts have sold better then Elvis in Germany

Edited by tryffel

Well in Germany for exampel, one of the biggest markets the world. None of Elvis singles where certified gold and none of his albums where certified while he still was alive. All he has there is 6 complications albums coring gold and platina.

In comparion, Abba has 17 gold and platina selling singles and albums. A-ha have 11

Thats only one market plus back then certification wasnt an issue like it is now so he prob had many many platinum albums/singles.
