Posted October 28, 201014 yr If Kylie is to keep herself relevant, she would have to do a major re-invention of her image. In her early career, we saw the girl next door. From the 90s, it's the devil you know, sex pin-up then she completely evolved into Indie Kylie. From the noughties, it's the dance Kylie that is famous for her mega-concert and dance-pop influence albums. It has always been the re-invention of Kylie's image that is keeping her relevant. Now Aphrodite has been released, and Get outta my way having flopped, some of us here pointed out that she may not be as relevant as before. What I would suggest is that she should do a Brandon Flowers-Hurts inspired album with a dance feel to it, not a complete return of IP as such but a bit like KM 94, just to show case the more artistic side of her. Seriously, with her current status in the music industry, I think one risky album is absolutely affordable. For 10 years, she has been doing dance-pop, and I can sense that people are now getting a bit sick of it. So what do you think? Or should Kylie stick to the current trend? But seriously, the last thing I want to see from her is jumping the bandwagon to cooperate with some trashy pop artist (you know who I am talking about...), I mean, come on, it's not like she hasn't done electronic/trance music before! October 28, 201014 yr One single misses the top 10 and suddenly she is no longer relevant and needs to change her image? Jeezo. People are Overreacting here. It is not the end of Kylie. Allthough I do think a new direction is needed, 10 years is a long time to be doing pretty much the same style, the Brandon Flowers-Hurts style would be amazing, but with Kylie's own stamp on it. I can hear Kylie on such songs by Hurts like Illuminated, Stay and Wonderful Life and she is amazing on Devotion. Plus, Brandon Flowers' voice would work well with Kylie, he is amazing at songwriting and could really do wonders for Kylie. A duet with them would be a surefire #1. Brandon Flowers feat. Kylie Minogue - written by Brandon/Kylie, produced by Stuart Price. Video by Sophie Muller. He is also a SEXY BEAST OF A MAN. Edited October 28, 201014 yr by Regina Flowers
October 28, 201014 yr I agree that people are thinking far to much into this. She just had a number 1 album with great first week sales that sadly didnt keep up because of the 2nd single, and her best selling single in nearly 10 years. I do think she needs to keep doing pop/dance but with a bit more edge to it. And get rid of the topless male dancers. Even as a gay man its doing my head in.
October 28, 201014 yr No. She just needs to keep on making great pop. No 'new direction' as such is needed, just a little less predictability in terms of who she works with, and a little more quality control. She's still sexy and saleable.

But I still think get rid of the topless male dancers. Kinda getting a bit borin now
October 28, 201014 yr I don't think she's irrelevant, so what she's had one slightly unperforming single? Loads of artists have second post-album singles do a hell of a lot worse. She undoubtedly has her niche, but I would like to see her try something slightly more experimental, she's in a position now where she can afford to, she's secured the same sort of position as the likes of Madonna, Robbie etc. in the way they're popular and well loved acts still and will be for the forseeable, one underperforming single won't change that. However, as good as the pop music she's doing now is, for her next album I would like a slightly more risky and alternative sound, something more raw sounding maybe? That has nothing to do with wanting her to remain relevant, 'cos she is no matter what.
October 28, 201014 yr I think you are forgetting that "all the lovers" was her biggest single in nearly 10 years. Its not that Kylie isnt relevant, its just they picked the wrong choice for 2nd single by choosing a song which although a good pop hit, didnt really appeal to the wider public.
October 29, 201014 yr If anything, the flop of "Get Out My Way" proves that people would rather she left the commercial sounding stuff to others. So it's her first song to flop in Australia? The woman's still making good music and is totally relevant, and I don't even listen to her. People will never forget Kylie, she has a legacy. She's not Holly Valance.
October 29, 201014 yr I hardly think 1 flop single proves that people would rather she left the commercial sounding stuff to others
October 29, 201014 yr Author Ok, maybe I should re-phrase the title to "If Kylie is to changer her style" or something like that... I am not overreacting here. But after years of seeing topless male dancers and similarly-sound dance-pop music from her, I want a change, change that I can believe. :P
October 29, 201014 yr To be fair i think Kylie;s album have all been very different, i would never think when listening to a kylie album oh this is very similar to the last one. Kylie does change musical style quite alot although i do agree the topless male dancers need to go.
October 29, 201014 yr I think she needs to move away from the "gay" elements of her music i.e. the topless male dancers. I reckon it puts quite a few potential Kylie customers off her music even if they still appreciate her style and celebrity presence. Yes the core gay fanbase is loyal but they won't give her million selling albums. She needs to broaden her appeal again and I agree that an experimental style album would help with that.

I've thought this for a while. I think she really got it with Fever which is why it was such a huge hit. It was cool modern pop music that wasn't too camp and it appealed to a massive range of people.
