Sales are truly MIND-BLOWING - 235,000 copies in a single day. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

This is utterly astonishing - and beyond any expectations. :o :o :o :o

It is now entirely possible that they will end up selling over 700,000 copies by Sunday beating Oasis's Be Here Now as the fastest selling album in the history of music. :o :o :o :o :o :o

This is what you get when you combine the UK's Biggest Band with the UK's Biggest Male - it is truly remarkable. :D

Take That shatter sales records

TRIUMPHANT TAKE THAT smashed sales records yesterday as new album Progress flew off shop shelves.

The lads' first album with ROBBIE WILLIAMS in 16 years is the fastest-selling album of the century - shifting a whopping 235,000 copies.

OASIS still hold the record for the biggest first day sales EVER - 350,000 for Be Here Now in 1997.

However GARY BARLOW, HOWARD DONALD, MARK OWEN, JASON ORANGE and Rob's achievement is still monumental.

Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot commented: "This is phenomenal achievement from an already phenomenally successful band."

Between them, the man band and Robbie have sold over 80 million albums. They've performed in front of over 14.5 million people, won 19 BRIT Awards, five Ivor Novellos and scored 13 No1 albums as well as 17 No1 singles.

The hugely-anticipated Progress is Take That's first release as a quintet since their 1995 No1 Nobody Else.

And it looks that it could eclipse the success of their last album, The Circus, which shifted one million copies in just 18 days two years ago.

Take That Scores Huge U.K. SalesTake That Scores Huge U.K. Sales

Take That .Take That's new album "Progress" (Polydor) moved more than 235,000 copies on its first day on sale (Nov. 15) in the U.K., according to the Official Charts Company.

The OCC said it was the biggest day one sale since Oasis' "Be Here Now" moved 424,000 in 1997.

Take That has benefited from huge publicity for this album, the first to feature Robbie Williams since 1995's "Nobody Else." Coverage includes a documentary on ITV1 and an appearance - their first performance together since the mid-'90s - on the Nov. 14 edition of "The X Factor." That got a peak audience of 17.7 million - the second highest for the show, the highest being last year's final - and an average of 4.5 million.

The band continued for a short while as a four-piece until early 1996 and then returned with a new album, "Beautiful World," in 2006. "Progress" is the third album from the band since it returned, first as a four-piece and now back to the original five-piece line-up.

Williams has enjoyed a solo career since he left the group but there has long been speculation about when he would re-join. The strong performance of his 2009 EMI album "Reality Killed the Video Star" made a return more likely. (The experimental "Rudebox" album in 2006 was not a strong seller and Williams would not have wanted to appear to be re-joining his old band because of falling sales.)

U.K. entertainment retailer HMV is predicting "Progress" will sell more than 500,000 and could even top Oasis, although "Be Here Now" was released on a Thursday which makes its week one sale even more impressive.

Universal has again moved to protect sales by not making the album available for free streaming via Spotify and We7's ad-funded services in the U.K. The album is available via Spotify's premium service. Eminem's "Recovery" - another huge U.K. seller this year - was also kept off free streaming services.

The arrival of the Beatles on iTunes today is perhaps an unwelcome distraction to the Take That campaign, but all the signs are that the album will likely be the biggest seller of the year in the U.K. "Progress" has also been well received by critics. It's certainly a long way from their boy band origins, which is just as well as two of the group are in their forties.

The success of the album is brilliant and its likely they will go double platnum in its first week of release. I know the circus up until now was take thats highest opening week with any album, does anyone know what robbies biggest opening album was sales wise?

Intensive Care is Rob's fastest seller (and the fastest seller in history for a male artist) - near 375,000 sold in the week and 128,000 first day.

Here is the full top 35 fastest sellers - Progress will at worst be a new entry at #2. :D

Progress is No. 1 on amazon in Germany.....it'll be released on Friday. Not bad considering there hasn't been any serious promotion. Sales will be huge here as well. It'll definately be Take That's biggest album ever.......
Do we get a sales update today or is that it until Sunday?
Its currently just over 305,000 in the UK now.

353K now :P

It will sell at least 500K this week and it is still possible it will pass 600K with Saturday sales which will be massive, even more so considering CIN the previous night. It won't beat the Oasis record but the second fastest selling album ever and the fastest seller of the century (can't see that being beaten at any stage considering the decrease in album sales, constant increase in illegal downloading and this being a unique situation where two fanbases have combined) - they should be delighted.

FINALLY we are seeing a good effect in Europe. I wonder if that 'Popstars' performance helped? Is it broadcast throughout Europe? I know it was 'Shame' but it may have helped. No real promo has been done yet apart from magazine interviews etc so once proper European promo starts I think it is going to be a big success. It has got off to a strong start.

I never thought (back in 2005) that TT would first become the UK's biggest selling and touring band and second would conquer europe again!

the album has sold 520k in the first week in the UK alone, it will probably hit 700-800k globally
