05/12/2010 - Take That Marks A Year At Number One

Take That’s Progress makes it a third week at number one in the Official Albums Chart today and gives the band a career tally of a phenomenal 52 weeks at number one in the UK’s Official Singles and Albums Chart together, the Official Charts Company reports. Take That are just the eighth act in chart history to achieve this feat.

Progress, which has already notched up multi-platinum sales of over 900,000 since it was released last month is a strong contender for biggest selling album of 2010. It already occupies the number two slot in the Official Albums Chart of the year so far, behind Lady Gaga’s The Fame which was released in 2009.

I am very surprised at sales as high as 173K this week. I was initially expecting around 150K but then with the weather 120K would have been more realistic but 170K+ is much higher than I anticipated. It should do 200K this week and then obviously rise even more the following two weeks. I expect sales to be between 1.6M-1.8M before the end of the year. It will be the best selling album of the year by next week already. :D

I thought the same. After the fairly big drop from week one's sales to week two ... I was expecting a maximum of about 120K this week. They'll have some more peaks between here and Xmas. I just hope it doesn't drop as drastically after Xmas the way The Circus did.

Don't forget ... they're on the Strictly semi finals where they'll be singing The Flood and Never Forget again.

Could they not sing something else , I am getting fed up of those songs :arrr:

Well I'm sick of The Flood. I'm just getting used to seeing Never Forget done as a five so I'm not fed up of this, probably one of my favourite ever Take That songs. The Flood drowns into insignificance alongside it.

I need to practice stuffing my hands in the air

It should be... how many albums have sold 1 million within 24 days is the UK? TT once, Oasis once and perhaps Coldplay once as well?

Nowadays it usually takes a full year for a succesful album to sell a million.
