Btw, do you guys give lower points to the songs you already know than the unknown ones?

If we assume they're both good.

The way you vote should be entirely down to you. Some people give less points to tracks they already know, or even don't vote for them as technically it's not an "unknown pleasure" to them.

On the flip side, let's say there's one track I already know that is relatively unknown (in general) and I still think it's better than 90% of the other tracks in the contest I will still vote for it. Each to their own.

I knew four songs beforhand. I treat all songs equal because it doesn't really make them worse if I already like them.

Some people still view this as a competition and submitting a song that is well known but still eligible could be seen as a way to do well. As such I don't like the fact that someone put forward a Foals song thinking that it would be successful. Call me a cynic....

For me it depends on how "unknown" the song is. Eg; on ChC we had one of these Unknown Pleasures and each participant was given a European country - we had to choose a song by an artist from that country.

I remember Lee J had Sweden and of all the tracks he could've chose, he went with 'With Every Heartbeat' by Robyn which had already been #1 in the UK by then. It just screamed "lazy ass" and despite me loving the song, I refused to give it points because it clearly wasn't "unknown" in the slightest. Unless you'd been living under a rock for 12 months. :P

this. although with a band like Foals, 90% of this comp already know it, where as other ones i know it's unlikely that many people would know it, what is known to me could be unknown to everyone else, but when a track is obviously known by most i feel that i might want to put it lower than others, i love Foals it's just, hardly unknown really.

In that case, I would've given zero points too.

wtf is up with neo - Serial Killer, I can't tell if it's brilliant or terrible, i feel so confused.
Would it be bad if this contest was for non-singles only?

hmm, i feel it's bad to put too much limitation on it, plenty of singles are very unknown, and were not allowed to enter things on the release schedule, but at the same time i'd cope easily if it was only non-singles, in fact none of my entries have been and only one of my future ideas is.

There are pros and cons. I'd love to discover a brilliant song by a band I thought I knew but I had only judged them off their singles - like The Script for example.

However, if someone were to pick a non-single track off a Radiohead album that everyone knew I'd be less impressed.

I feel that there should be an album chart restriction on artists that are submitted to this competition but that's just me, I guess.

Hmm yea I don't think that would make a big difference anyway considering the limitations we already have.

Hurt - House Carpenter is brilliant.

When the song started I thought it was nearly as bad as Ne-Yo but by the end I liked it  Strange song.

I have now voted, I must admit 5 tracks really stood out, it just was difficult to place them points wise, I would have never found the tracks ever existed.

They have other tracks on you tube Ghosts  Sleepwalkers  I've been doing my homework, I might even try to find their debut album. That was a good find.
