New Robbie material imminent

Source Music Week

IE Music chief Tim Clark revealed at the Music Week-organised Music and Brands conference today that Robbie Williams will be releasing new material this summer.

Williams has been working with Mark Ronson, William Orbit and the Pet Shop Boys on a dance-focused release called Rude Box. The first single to be lifted from the album, also entitled Rude Box, will go to radio on Monday (July 24). The single will be released on September 4, while the album release date has not been confirmed.

Clark says, "Robbie came up with the idea to do it at Midem and he delivered it to us in a very short space of time. Every track shows how much fun he had recording it. It will be the dance sensation of the summer."

:cheer:

So at last we will here the actual single instead of all these remixes floating around  and only a few days to wait now.

I hope there is a video premier soon too - assuming there will be a video ;)

Hello!

I've just read in the newspapers that Robbie's album 1974 is coming out a month later than it was planned and why? Because Justin Timberlake's album is coming out on the same day! Is this true???

I don't think so - just tabloids trying to create rivalries for a strory..

From PopJustice.com:

The more we're hearing about robbies new album "1974", the more bizarre it is sounding... (bear in mind some of this info is taken from "the sun"), but some info is confirmed by various official sources.

First off there's the 1st single from the album.

"rudebox" - the early promotion that i've seen for this song so far is very mysterious, and quite weird. its some sort of cover version. A white label promo of this has been sent out to clubs, but iv got it and the mixes are awful and you certainly wouldnt be able to tell its robbie. single is released in september.

"lovelight" - described as "robbie at his best", and is set to be robbie's christmas single.

"she's madonna" - a song about madonna, written by the pet shop boys. apparantly madonna has heard this song and loves it.

"the 80s" &

"the 90s" - 2 separate rap songs, written about robbies days in take that. lyrics include robbie describing how he’d "like to cut former manager Nigel Martin-Smith’s eyes with a Stanley knife".

"The Actor" - inspired by his hero David Bowie.

"We’re The Pet Shop Boys" - this song is described as a tribute to the pet shop boys, and is a cover of a song by "my robot friend", which was recorded by the pet shop boys. how confusing!

"kiss me" - robbie's writing partner stephen duffy had a big hit in the eighties with this song, now robbie is covering it. i cant stand the original song!

"louise" - ANOTHER cover, this time the human league song form the 80's.

there are also 2 songs featuring lily allen, though she only sings backing vocals it seems.

so basically, robbie is taking a massive gamble with this new direction. after the dissapointment of "Intensive Care" we welcome this change. But could robbie harm his career with this?? Its got LOADS of cover versions on. We'll find out soon enough, the album is released in october.

It sort of sounds exciting. Two things: 1) Robbie shouldn't rap. Ever. He's terrible. 2) Since when has David Bowie been his hero? He's also suddenly Justin's hero too.

Heres the competition :

He be mainly facing these two artists for the top spot, got a funny feeling Scissor Sisters will beat him, unless he changes his release date, the Scissor Sisters single is actually quite good.

It's hilarious how they quoted karmakiller from TRWS on some of that, lol!!

And since when was IC a disappointment?!?

Robbie Williams - Rudebox

Dance Front Door 19/07/06

Robbie Williams returns to business with the release of a brand new single ‘RUDEBOX’ on September 4th on EMI Records. ‘RUDEBOX’ is the first single to be taken from his forthcoming new studio album, which will follow soon after. ‘RUDEBOX’ is a nasty, dirty, bass infused electro-funk-pop monster produced and written with fellow Stoke On Trent natives/compadres Soul Mekanik aka Danny Spencer & Kelvin Andrews.

“RUDEBOX is wonky pop music, influenced by the underground,†says Andrews, “It was just three lads from Stoke having fun in the studio, no rules and no knobheads.†Forged around a sample from Sly & Robbie’s seminal ‘Boops (Here To Go)’ and twisted around his own unique visceral lyrical stylings, the result is the sound of our Rob jamming the electro-boogaloo on a bustling New York street corner in 1983. The sound is unmistakably fresh, and unmistakably Robbie Williams! It could be no other.

“RUDEBOX is loads of different things, sometimes it could be a vibe delivered in a spaceship direct to the studio, sometimes it’s a really nasty girl dancing scantily clad, or sometimes it’s a giant Soundsystem…Sometimes it’s actually just a box that tells you to **** off! too†adds RW.

‘RUDEBOX’ sets the tone for the album which as previously reported also see’s Robbie collaborating with the likes of The Pet Shop Boys, William Orbit and Mark Ronson and a host of others, on both new original compositions and covers of some of his favourite tracks. This is perhaps the most definitive Robbie Williams opus to date, where his truest personal and musical inspirations collide to create an intimate and explorative sound that will surprise some, but after eight albums, this here is the sound of Robert Peter Williams, born 1974 in Stoke On Trent, UK.

“They might say its “dance†or it’s “electro†but it’s just what I like! It started off as a busman’s holiday this time around, but it’s become something on which I’ve found myself. I was just doing my YTS up till now,†he adds.

‘RUDEBOX’ has begun to blaze a trail of its own right on dancefloors across the world, with early mixes and dubs from the likes of Soul Mekanik, Chicken Lips & Riton already receiving support from the likes of Pete Tong (Radio1), James Hyman (XFM), and DJ luminaries as broad as Sasha, John Digweed, Trevor Jackson, Erol Alkan, Boris Dlugosch & Sarah Main to name but a handful. The initial white-label release has already charted in the highly respected Buzz, Cool Cuts & Zzub club charts and continues to grow on a daily basis.

RW is in the midst of his record-breaking ‘Close Encounters’ World tour that hits the UK in September.

Do the RUDEBOX, get your rocks off, lose your $h!t and get nasty…

‘RUDEBOX’ is released on EMI Records on September 4th 2006.

Robbie releases "Rudebox"

(Wednesday July 19, 2006 05:30 PM)

Dot music

Robbie Williams has announced details of a brand new single, entitled "Rudebox".

The long-rumoured track is taken from the pop star's currently untitled new album and is scheduled for release in September.

The single is expected to be released to radio next week and will be followed by the LP, which includes new and old tracks and collaborations with Pet Shop Boys, William Orbit and Mark Ronson.

"Rudebox" was apparently recorded with "fellow Stoke On Trent natives / compadres Soul Mekanik aka Danny Spencer & Kelvin Andrews", according to a statement released today.

It is based on a sample from the classic Sly & Robbie track "Boops (Here To Go)" and apparently sounds like Robbie on a "New York street corner in 1983".

Speaking about the track in today's statement, Robbie Williams commented: "'Rudebox' is loads of different things.

"Sometimes it could be a vibe delivered in a spaceship direct to the studio, sometimes it's a really nasty girl dancing scantily clad, or sometimes it's a giant Soundsystem. Sometimes it's actually just a box that tells you to f*ck off! too"

"They might say its "dance" or it's "electro" but it's just what I like! It started off as a busman's holiday this time around, but it's become something on which I've found myself. I was just doing my YTS up till now," said Robbie.

"Rudebox" is scheduled for release on September 4.

I don't know what to say.

He is taking a massive gamble with this I think. But you have to admire his guts, his versitility, and his work ethic. :D

It's hilarious how they quoted karmakiller from TRWS on some of that, lol!!

And since when was IC a disappointment?!?

Yes, same question from me, too... :P

Since when was IC a disappointment???

^_^

Who says IC was a disappointment????!!!!Shame on you!!! :nono:

I didn't realise Rudebox was going to be on the radio so soon.

I'm off work next week so I'll be sitting beside a radio all day waiting for the first playing.
