Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts

(Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

Singles

'Time keeps on slipping into the future’ is from the song “Fly Like an Eagle”, and flying high and repeating herself is this weeks new No.1 debut by popette Ke$ha, who debuts at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with her new track “We R Who We R”. This very week in 2009 (9-Nov) she climbed to No.1 with her first solo single “Tik Tok”, which stayed at the top of the charts for eight weeks, right through until the end of 2009.

“We R Who We R” is the 971st No.1 in Australia, and it also debuted at No.1 in the US and No.2 Canada this past week, and it’s the first single to be lifted from her forthcoming second album “Cannibal” (out Nov 19th), which is being touted as a follow-up EP to her “Animal” album, although EP’s have traditionally been 4 to 6 tracks, this new set has eight new tracks plus a remix of her previous albums title track “Animal”. “We R…” also becomes the fifth song this year to debut at No.1, and the third of the last four chart-topping songs. In comparison, last year there were only two No.1 debuts, and we have to look back to 2007 for the last amount of multiple pinnacle debuts, which had seven that year.

RCA score their 62nd No.1 single in Australia with Ke$ha’s new track, with her previous No.1 “Tik Tok” (TW-92) being the last time they reached the top. Ke$ha now also racks up her sixteenth accumulated week at No.1, having scored seven weeks at the top as guest vocalist on Flo Rida’s “Right Round” last year, eight weeks with “Tik Tok”, and now her sixteenth week has occurred thanks to “We R Who We R”. That puts her in equal 39th place on the list of “Accumulated Weeks at No.1 (1945-2010)” with Whitney Houston and Shaggy who also achieved sixteen weeks at the top from three No.1 singles. It’s also the fifth time that ‘Who’ has been to No.1, the last being Vanessa Amorosi’s “This is Who I Am” from late 2009.

After four accumulated weeks at the top, Rihanna’s “Only Girl (in the World)” falls to No.2, but she does also score the second highest new entry of the week, as her next single “What’s My Name?” featuring Drake enters at No.28. Last weeks US No.1 single jumps up to No.3 here in Australia, “Like a G6” for Far East Movement, which pushes Nelly’s “Just a Dream” down one place to No.4. Jumping up ten places to No.5, and scoring her third Top 10 single from her latest album, is Katy Perry with “Fireworks”. P!nk’s former No.1, “Raise Your Glass” falls two places to No.6, and the song that knocked it off the top spot is right behind it, Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are”, which falls five places to No.7, but his second single jumps up the charts this week.

Two solo male artists who were in the country this week are back-to-back this week, with Enrique Iglesias jumping up fifteen places to No.8 with his single “Heartbeat”, which has helped his album ”Euphoria” to leap fifty-nine places (77 to 18). And Mike Posner was also here on a promo tour, but his single “Cooler than Me” drops four places to No.9 this week. And spending their second week in the Top 10 at falling down one place to No.10 is Duck Sauce and their dance track “Barbra Streisand”.

NEW PEAKS: Eminem spent eight non-consecutive weeks at No.10 with “Not Afraid”, and spending its third week at No.21 is his latest single “No Love”, which seems to be stuck at that peak position for now. ARIA nominee Sia scores her highest placed single ever here in Australia, as “Clap Your Hands” is up seven places to No.26. Swedish House Mafia hold their peak of No.34 this week with “Miami 2 Ibiza”, but another Swedish act, Adrian Lux, climbs to a new peak of No.35 with his single “Teenage Crime”. Bruno Mars explodes fifteen places to No.40 with his second solo single “Grenade”.

GLEE REPORT: The duets from two weeks ago are moving up the charts this week, with “River Deep, Mountain High” moving into the Top 50, up eight places to No.42. “Lucky” is up eleven places to No.57 and their final Top 100 duet is their version of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, which is down four places to No.100. This past weeks episode was their ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ edition, and the biggest hit from that show debuts this week at No.70, “The Time Warp” (original HP-3, Nov 1980), plus check out the album info below for the parent album’s chart info.

Below Top 50: Kanye West is poised to enter the Top 50 next week, as his latest track “Runaway” moves up six places to a new peak of No.51, and also a possibly Top 50 entrant for next week (if they win some ARIA’s) are The Temper Trap and their single “Fader”, which is again up to a new peak of No.54. Breaking out of his No.70 peaks (see last week’s chartifacts) is Tinie Tempah who jumps fifteen places to No.55 with his former UK No.1 single “Written in the Stars”. The second biggest climber in the Top 100 this week goes to Jason DeRulo and his new track “The Sky’s the Limit”, which zooms up twenty places to No.61. Keith Urban is up twelve places to No.82 with his new single “Long Hot Summer”, and local act Yolanda Be Cool who won the ARIA Best Dance Release earlier this week for “We No Speak Americano”, is the biggest climber in to the Top 100; it’s up twenty-one places to No.78.

Nelly’s sixth album “5.0” is due for release in mid November, and the second single from that album is entitled “Move That Body”, which debuts at No.53 this week, with guest vocals by T-Pain and Akon. And a few places lower at No.56 is another new entry, this time for local act Sia, and her new song “I Go to Sleep”. Whilst debuting at No.58 is Nick van de Wall, who is better known as the DJ Afrojack, and with Dutch singer Eva Simons enter with their dance track “Take Over Control”.

In late March, Lifehouse scored a Top 30 hit with their track “Halfway Gone”, taken from their album “Smoke & Mirrors” (HP-75, March 2010). Now the second single from that album debuts at No.71 entitled “All In”. The new Hannah Montana soundtrack is at No.65 this week, and the first release from that album debuts at No.75 entitled “Gonna Get This”, featuring Iyaz on guest vocals. Taio Cruz debuts at No.77 with his next single “Higher”, also featuring a guest vocalist, Kylie Minogue. This version is on the “Rokstarr International” version of his album, not the regular version.

The second single from Good Charlotte’s new album “Cardiology” (debut No.3) enters at No.88 this week entitled “Sex on the Radio”. And the new No.1 album this week scores two new entries for Taylor Swift, entering at No.91 is “Ours”, and at No.97 is “Sparks Fly”.

Albums

Taylor Swift took eighteen weeks to reach No.2 (23rd March, 2009) with her second album “Fearless” (TW-76), but this week she bursts into No.1 with her third album “Speak Now”, which also achieves a Platinum certification in the process. And with multitude of pre-released singles from the album, it has helped the album to the peak position. First single “Mine” (HP-9, Aug 2010) is up ten places to No.33 this week, and previous singles “Speak Now” (HP-20, Oct 2010), “Back to December” (HP-26, Oct 2010, out this week), “Mean” (HP-45, Nov 1st, 2010, also drops out this week), plus the two new entries from the album this week, “Ours” (debut No.91) and “Sparks Fly” (debut No.97), making it six singles from that album to have charted so far, in the US this past week she had eleven charting tracks.

“Speak Now” is the 622nd No.1 album in Australia, and is the first album to feature ‘Speak’ in its title, but the third with ‘Now’, the other two being Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass’ “What Now My Love” (1 week, July 1966) and Oasis with “Be Here Now” (1 week, August 1997). Taylor becomes the 30th American Female Solo singer to top the Australian charts (1945-2010), and the 83rd Solo Female act to achieve the No.1 spot. She is also the 129th American Act to hit the top with the 226th album by an American artist.

After two weeks at the top, Kings of Leon fall down to No.2 with “Come Around Sundown”, but Rod Stewart holds at No.4 with his “Fly Me to the Moon” album, one of only two stable titles in the Top 10 album chart, the other being Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” at No.7. John Farnham’s “Jack” falls down to three places to No.6, and last weeks highest new entry at No.2 for Triple J’s “Like a Version Vol.6” is down seven places to No.9. Holding onto a Top 10 placing, and falling four places to No.10 is Angus & Julia Stone and their album “Down the Way”.

The fifth album for Good Charlotte is their first on the Capitol label (they were on Daylight/Epic previously), and this week “Cardiology” debuts at No.3 this week. First single from the album was “Like it’s her Birthday” (HP-7) is holding at No.24 this week, and the album’s second single debuts at No.88, entitled “Sex on the Radio”. With Enrique Igleasis in the country the past week on a promo tour, it has not only helped his current single “Heartbeat” to jump into the Top 10, it’s also helped his “Euphoria” album to zoom back up the charts fifty-nine places to No.18 this week. John Butler Trio’s “April Uprising” is up twelve places to No.31 this week, ahead of Sunday nights ARIA awards, where the group have multiple nominations. With Neil Diamond’s new album entering, it has helped his 1992 No.1 collection “Greatest Hits 1966-1992” back into the Top 50 at No.42. And with Michael Jackson’s new album “Michael” due for release soon ahead of new single “Breaking News” being previewed on Monday the 8th of November, his “Essential Michael Jackson” has jumped back into the Top 100 at No.40. Finally we see P!nk’s “Funhouse” album jump back up thirty-eight places from No.85 to No.47 ahead of her “Greatest Hits.. So Far!!” album out soon, and X-Factor judge Ronan Keating takes his greatest hits collection “10 Years of Hits” up thirty-seven places to No.50.

Melbourne rapper Illy debuted at No.58 last week on the singles chart with his new track “It Can Wait” (TW-73), and now this week his second album “The Chase” debuts at No.25. Seventies stalwarts Elton John and Leon Russell have teamed up together to record an album entitled “The Union”, which debuts at No.28 this week. The album features guest artists such as Brian Wilson, Neil Young, Booker T., and Don Was amongst others. And lastly, veteran artist Bob Dylan debuts at No.36 with his ninth bootleg series album entitled “The Witmark Demos: 1962-1964 (The Bootleg Series Vol.9).

Well done to Taylor for getting a #1 album in Australia ^_^

I'm amazed at Rihanna's longevity in the Top 2 in Australia :o I hope it doesn't fall fast once it dips below the top 5.

Platinum is 70,000 in Australia right? Taylor sold that much? Or is it shippments?

I wasn't aware their weekly album tallies were so high.
