January 17, 201114 yr The 2nd heat songs are up, including the return of Yohanna! http://vefir.ruv.is/songvakeppnin/
January 17, 201114 yr Þessi þrá sounds like In A Moment Like This done in a toned down Icelandic style, ha! LOVING but not living for Johanna's entry. But then, I was like that with Is It True at first (which I notice this half-inches by making a nice big shouty moment at around 2:15 the pivotal point, not that I'm complaining!) and the revamp shoved that up into essential territory for me.

Þessi þrá put me in mind more of "Need You Now" than IAMLT. I do quite like it though. And as for the second comment, I never thought I'd say this, but...."this."
January 17, 201114 yr Ah, the return of Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir! Will listen shortly, on song one now and I completely get what you mean about the Need You Now comparison Peter!
January 17, 201114 yr When Yohanna wins, gets translated and gets a revamp, I'll no doubt love it - for now it sounds quite strong, especially the last minute. Song 3 is dire, next!
January 17, 201114 yr Yohanna's song sounds very strong indeed. I've not been keeping up - all songs seem to be in Icelandic, and will the winning song be 100% translated into English?
January 17, 201114 yr Yohanna's song sounds very strong indeed. I've not been keeping up - all songs seem to be in Icelandic, and will the winning song be 100% translated into English? They've made it a rule this year that all songs have to be in Icelandic. There's nothing to say for definite that the winning song will be translated, but considering every Icelandic entry since the free language rule has been in English, it's pretty likely.

I hope they don't revamp it, it's fine the way it is, and I don't really see exactly what they could do to it productionwise to make it better. Obviously it'll be translated I'm sure, which is why I'm trying not to listen to it too much in its current state, so that I don't get used to it in Icelandic and the English lyrics aren't too jarring when I hear them. When was the last time the Icelandic entry wasn't revamped production-wise before ESC? I think it's inevitable, although I've got nothing against the current production but then I actually prefer the original NF versions of loads of ESC songs, The Highest Heights for example, really disliked the ESC version intro in comparison to the NF version.

That's true, I think last time there wasn't any kind of production revamp was in 2007, or maybe even 2005. Still it's really not necessary in this case...with Silvia Night, Euroband, Is It True and Hera, they all sounded unfinished, or there was at least potential to make them "bigger." In this case any alterations they make could make it sound overblown.

In fact, looking back, I probably listen to the NF version of Is It True more than the ESC version, I prefer the intro at least. Listening back to the original of Je Ne Sais Quoi now, it sounds completely sparse in comparison to the excellent revamp. I guess we'll see - I've often said 'there's no need to revamp that' and then I end up liking the ESC version even more.
January 18, 201114 yr Author Anyway, 'Night' >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 'Is It True?' :o *awaits to get murdered*
January 18, 201114 yr Is there an english version, Night, or are you just translating? I kind of agree, it has the potential to be stronger overall, but I never heard Is It True in Icelandic (don't think it exists) so hard to compare...
January 18, 201114 yr I'm fairly confident that the English version of "Nótt" will be pretty good. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if it was actually written in English first, since most of Yohanna's material is in English, and then translated into Icelandic to be within the rules of the national selection.
January 18, 201114 yr Author Yeah i just translated. I believe that artists should perform songs in their native language - concentrating on the pronunciation may hinder and sometimes terrible accent just puts off.
January 18, 201114 yr Hmmm, you may have a point - but if it's not going to work for the international audience, I kind of think what's the point? Some sad news from Iceland today - Sigurjon "Sjoni" Brink, a singer who was going to be in the 3rd heat, passed away yesterday :( Here he is with his song from last year's Iceland NF: bNpquyHc4Lo :snif:
January 18, 201114 yr Author Of course if you want to get noticed globally, or just in several other countries, english is kind of a must. But people who actually make it through don't have awful english accents (except Tatu  ). OMG that is terrible! :(
