Surely there would be a huge overlap in the two fanbases? It's not like Michael Buble joining Kings of Leon.
It's possible because what we have here in a combination (in terms of album sales) of the UK's biggest band and the UK's biggest male - both fanbases combined plus due to the insane hype by the media - many curious casual listeners too. It is a unique situation and I expected it to be huge but not this huge.

Don't forget they also performed on XFactor to an audience of several million. I loved the performance, it worked really well.

lol what a chance. . . Around 200k at best. . . =) mark me. . .

:P

Well a lot of the casual fans would likely buy both acts material separately too, and of course there would be quite a number of TT fans from the 90's who who also be big Robbie fans - but I think the core fanbases of both are quite different actually. Robbie built up his own audience after leaving TT - as someone who was at some of his very early gigs after he left TT to all throughout his career - I can tell you his audience progressed hugely and as well as becoming much larger it also became far more diverse. TT have also built up a fanbase as a four piece that is much bigger in terms of albums than it was in the 90's. It would make for an interesting survey to be done in HMV tbh

What is interesting is that when you look at the first day sales of both TT and Rob's fastest sellers they are roughly the same. The Circus sold 133K first day in 08 and Intensive Care sold 128K first day in 2005 - now they have collectively sold well over 100,000 more with Progress which will be without question the fastest selling album of the century. :D

It's the same with touring really in terms of first day ticket sales in the UK - Rob's 06 tour shifted 600,000 tickets in day - TT's The Circus did over 700,000 first day - together they have achieved over 1.3M tickets sold in a day with 'Progress Live'.

And this list is soon to be added to with a new #2 position - either Progress or Be Here Now (if it is overtaken). :D

Thanks to Better_Man at UKMIX.

I've checked - 'Be Here Now' was released on 21st August 1997

- a Thursday. It sold 420,000 UK copies on Day 1, & 696,000

in 3 Days. It sold over 800,000 in its first Week on Sale.

The Oasis Album was also a Global Top 5 Album - reaching

No.2 in the USA, & an eventual, (estimated), 8 Million Global

Sale.

So - how many of the 'Be Here Now' Feats is the

Take That Album going to beat, or match? Bearing

in mind that, (usually), the UK is by far their only

real huge Market. Will Robbie being 'back', make

them bigger Globally? Or will it not make that

much difference?

We will see. The UK Media tend to go on as if

Take That are the new Beatles - not Globally, they

aren't.

Take That shatter sales records

TRIUMPHANT TAKE THAT smashed sales records yesterday as new album Progress flew off shop shelves.

The lads' first album with ROBBIE WILLIAMS in 16 years is the fastest-selling album of the century - shifting a whopping 235,000 copies.

OASIS still hold the record for the biggest first day sales EVER - 350,000 for Be Here Now in 1997.

However GARY BARLOW, HOWARD DONALD, MARK OWEN, JASON ORANGE and Rob's achievement is still monumental.

Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot commented: "This is phenomenal achievement from an already phenomenally successful band."

Between them, the man band and Robbie have sold over 80 million albums. They've performed in front of over 14.5 million people, won 19 BRIT Awards, five Ivor Novellos and scored 13 No1 albums as well as 17 No1 singles.

The hugely-anticipated Progress is Take That's first release as a quintet since their 1995 No1 Nobody Else.

And it looks that it could eclipse the success of their last album, The Circus, which shifted one million copies in just 18 days two years ago.

According to the OCC 'Be Here Now' only sold 350,000 first day. :o Can you confirm which figure is correct? It's confusing!

TT with Robbie back could very well back it huge again internationally (America aside) - the new album is a drastic change in direction and one I feel will prove more of a success in Europe and beyond. It all depends on how much promotion they do next month when they start a Euro promo tour.

lol what a chance. . . Around 200k at best. . . =) mark me. . .

so they did that in what? one day? lol can't wait to hear your next prediction

De Niro - Some sources say 350,000 1st Day Sales for 'Be Here Now'.

Others say 420,000 1st Day Sales. I don't know which is correct.

However - both beat the 235,000 1st Day Sales of the Take That Album.

My point still stands - the Oasis Album still holds that UK Chart Record.

(As The OCC told me a few hours ago. Take That now have the 2nd

biggest 1st Day Album Sale in the UK).

jls are very lucky they arent releasing their album the same week as progress

People voting under 400K should be amazed! :P :P :P We are not crazy ones you see?

I think we will say that to people voting 400-500K later on during the week (friday most probably the album will be close to if not already over that mark)

Amazing sales... I wonder if they will fall fast during the week or continue to sell the estimated 650K...

They will be on CIN on Friday so Saturday sales will be HUGE!

They should do some other promo though. They are on the Live Lounge next Monday but nothing else planned for this week. I think they should appear on Daybreak - actually no scratch that - the album's opening sales are already higher than that show's ratings :P This Morning, Paul O'Grady (although that clashes with CIN) - There really is very little to promote on. They need to do their first live TV interview soon anyway. I think it will all happen next week though.

I am dying to see Charis's reaction to these sales. Westlife don't have a hope in hell of selling 235K in the entire week - they probably won't even sell half of that figure. :smoke:

I predict +600k for the opening week. It wont break Oasis record( 800k in 7 days) sadly. However it might be close.
Some people think over 3 million! wow!

It is yet a possibility with the hype , the singles and the tour coming...

IF it is not their last album as 5TT then it becomes less possible thats true. But the crazy ones are those voting BELOW 2 million really. Even as a catalogue seller it would definitely sell two millions after a few years.

IMO it will have sold 2 millions before the Brits maximum - by January probably. Progress may stall after that point at 2.5 millions but it could eventually sell the last 0.5million as a catalogue seller (150-200/year is NOT extraordinary for TT or Robbie)

Zeus - Billboard have now claimed 'Bere Here Now' sold 424,000 in it's first day - the OOC is it's source, however the OCC claimed in their article it was 350,000. Very odd isn't it?

http://www.billboard.com/news/take-that-sc...004126908.story

Reuters have also corrected their article changing the Oasis number from 350,000 to 424,000 - after the OCC corrected their original figure.

I know 2 Guys at The OCC. I told one of them - today - that I'd

checked, & 'Be Here Now' sold 420,000 on Day 1. In the meantime,

I then saw that they'd already said 350,000 in a Press Release!

I think what has happened is that they've double checked both claims,

& seen that it really sold just over 424,000 on Day 1. Somehow, Alan Jones

was given a 1st Day Total, of 356,000, in 1997. He gave that Total in the

W/E 30th August 1997 'Music Week'. It seems, that it should have been

424,000 - 68,000 more. It could be that the 68,000 are Cassette Sales,

& they were missed out, when Alan was given the 356,000 Total. I don't

know. (I'll try to find out, tomorrow).
