I don't Like that idea, it will effect The Saturdays and other acts imo.

Yeah, honestly, I really don't like this idea :( So, does this mean that songs aren't going to get a release date? I think it's quite confusing :/

hmmm arn't the sats with polydor - so will this effect them?!

in terms of sales they will be better, and if the song is good then it will still climb at the end of the day SOME song will have to sell more than anything else

i miss missing having news from the sats, like being exccited to log on here and see a new song, new artwork, new video, new performance.

:(

Polydor is a sub-division of Universal who are supporting the 'on air on sale' approach.

Most of the rest of the world is working with this system and it works just fine. The release date is the premiere date. And after that the lable can choose a date to release remixes or the physical edition for fans (or keep it with the premiere, of course).

This way they'll sell more, but it will be harder to get a high peak. But in the end the sales are much more important.

If every song is like this but, will it really be harder to get a high peak??

Well, I'm pretty sure Britney just broke a record in the US for 'Hold It Against Me' being the 1st single in 3yrs to debut a #1. So I'm presuming that means that every other single released out there in the US either climbed to #1 or didn't make it. At least I think that's true, can't remember where I read it now.

I think the whole new model will testify on strong material. If they don't have the good material it could just bomb with this new sales model. That's why The Saturdays need that 'career defining' single this year.

I'm not throwing a downer on the whole Sats camp, but I'm sure if all the Sats fans know their single is released on xx-xx-xx then i'm sure it'll get a high peak, it should be no different really to what normally happens with them now.. 'crazed fans' multi-buying on the first week of release etc..

No; she became the second artist in Billboard history to have more than one song debut at #1 (Mariah Carey has had 3) '3' debuted at the top spot in October 2009... Only 18 songs have made their debut at #1 on the Hot 100.

I don't think this new way of releasing songs will change much for them.

After all it only really affects songs released before an album. After that, they're available to download whenever you want. I guess with official remixes such as Higher (feat. Flo Rida) it will make a difference, but you guys all thought that should have been released a lot sooner, so I guess you got your wish!.. in a roundabout sort of way, lol.

^^ Ah thanks. I wasn't 100% sure when I posted it.

I agree. I think as long as long as their core fan base knows its out on xx date then im sure that will be enough for a Top 10 debut then some stabality with some more promotion and radio support. Should be alright. It's just if radio dosen't support the track to a certain extent then God knows what might happen.

  • 1 month later...

I would start a new thread for this regarding their upcoming album, but I think it's too soon.

A member from PopJustice today claims that Rochelle said on the radio that they're "recording with Labrinth for a track on the album" and the new single would be out "soon". They have also worked with Taio Cruz, Alphabeat and Steve Mac.

Woah, she says the album will be out by the end of 2011! That is way later than we expected here. I guess we can say it will definitely be 2 singles before the album.

Not only that: if the new album won't be ready until the end of the year, then it is true they will release Headlines! in Germany this summer.

We need a thread for the new album...
