December 6, 201014 yr HIGH: GaGa at the top of the YE Album Chart for about 90% of the year AGAIN. LOW: Take That releasing 'Progress' and overtaking GaGa at last minute to be #1 in the YE Album Chart. :nocheer:
December 6, 201014 yr High's: The return of no.1's that were part of niche genres (Fireflies, F**k You), return of Katy Perry and Rihanna, Great new artists (Bruno Mars, B.o.B, Tinie Tempah and Plan B), the fact that most songs that got to number one were decent or better, the x factor is beginning to have less of an effect on the chart in terms of artists that have been part of the show forcing the artists to release better songs, Black Eyed Peas new album entering at 17 Low's: Usher's poor comeback getting to Number 1 and selling more than it should have done, JLS somehow getting to number with the Club Is Alive, Justin Bieber, Ellie Goulding and Eminem & Rihanna not getting no.1, beautiful monster getting to number 1, roll deep being successful despite being very average at their genre
December 6, 201014 yr HIGHS: - Eminem coming back with some good songs and a coherent album, and being rewarded accordingly - B.o.B helping one fifth of Paramore to get a #1, it's a start at least - 30 Seconds to Mars having a decent top 40 albums run, hopefully setting them up well for their fourth album - Glee doing well on both charts LOWS: -Justin Bieber - Linkin Park and Gorillaz being relative flops witth fast-falling #2 albums - General lack of good rock music (or any rock music, come to that) in the singles chart - My Chemical Romance flopping head over heels
December 6, 201014 yr ^MCR might sell something like 30STM in the long run though if Sing (+further singles) takes off on radio. It has potential imo
December 6, 201014 yr A high definitely has to be McFly's chart run for Shine A Light! Its nothing particularly amazing, but it is for them! Great sales, too. I think they have a great year ahead. Yeah that's my high too. Not sure about their great year ahead though, the album hasn't done well and I'm struggling to think of what they should release next of it. I reckon 'This Song' would be the most radio friendly choice but McFly always have a habit of releasing the wrong songs from the albums *cough cough* Do Ya *cough cough*...
December 6, 201014 yr Highs: Return to more 2000/2001 chart patterns - top 5 hits leaving the top 40 after 8-10 weeks YBC selling absolute bucketloads for a dance track High sales Rumer going top 20 with 'Slow' Lows: Many forgettable/crappy number 1 singles All the X-Factor re-entries Lack of anything remotely 'rock/indie' in the upper reaches of the chart most weeks Tinchy, Dizzee and Taio releasing absolute $h!te There are lots more, these are just off the top of my head.
December 6, 201014 yr High - Kylie Minogue - Aphrodite getting to number one Low - The Saturdays - Missing You missing out on number 1
December 6, 201014 yr Unless you mean it being #1 (and then dropping so spectacularly) made more people aware of its "flop" in which case I do see your point... This is indeed what I mean.
December 6, 201014 yr I wouldn't call it a flop to be honest, the fact it got to #1 was a huge fluke anyway as it had the lowest #1 sales week of the year (and this was on its first week - when was the last time the lowest sales week for a #1 album was in said album's *first* week? Even GaGa outsold Xtina on her 7th non-consecutive week at #1, same for Eminem) But yeah, my point is it wouldn't seem anywhere near as much as a flop if it got to around #6 or so instead of #1. No matter what position it reached, for this album by Christina Aguilera to sell 60,000 in total is a flop regardless.
