May 3, 201114 yr I just read in norwegian newspaper that John have to sit in a wheelchair for the final week? is this true? He was in a wheelchair for a short while because he hurt his ankle or his knee or something, but he's fine now. I'll watch the rehearsal tomorrow evening so I can prepare myself for the car crash on May 12th. :(
May 4, 201114 yr Jedward's first rehearsal e1AWTdND3qA I think it's better than their NF performance, although some of the dancing makes me uneasy but I guess it is "Jedward". I didn't like the echo though it made it sound not so good....although probably all the songs were suffering this. Hopefully on the night it'll sound better. I'm not sure about our chances at the moment. I have seen a decent amount of people saying they like/love it.....but I think the highest we can probably hope for is probably an 8th. May 4, 201114 yr Naturally I am predisposed to hating it, it's JEDWARD for goodness sake, but they really have not disappointed in bringing the AWFUL. Their vocals are worse than ever, the performance looks awful. If they get through it's because they have the final slot and nothing to do with them/the song.
May 4, 201114 yr AKOE were VERY complimentary about it and seem to think it's a certain finalist, but then I expected them to say nothing less. Looks and sounds horrible to me. It will definitely stand out, hopefully not enough to take them into the final, although that said - their presence in the final could potentially steal a lot of viewers away from Britain's Got Talent. Especially as Dana International is looking less and less likely to qualify (not surprised, p*** weak song), and she might have been another big talking point.
May 4, 201114 yr I'm having difficulty finding the problems people are having with this rehearsal. It's Jedward, so we know it's not going to be great vocally, but it's far from the car crash I was expecting. Of course AKOE would like it - that's patriotism for you... and it's rife in this forum (like the UK is going to WIN? Sorry, I rate the UK very highly as it is one of the best this year, but it's in no way original. It's generic and if it wins I'll be pissed :P). Like I said before, I can't see us qualifying, but today's performance was on par with some of the other countries which are tipped to qualify, IMO. Did anybody see Estonia's rehearsal? It's my favourite entry this year, but MY GOD parts of it were DIRE today. Jedward have cast their spell over Germany, from what I've been reading! Lena is their biggest fan and the German media are Jedward-crazy at the moment. Nadine from Austria also loves them to. :P I like them as people (and I've always been critical of them as singers) but I believe they take way too much crap. I understand that they are annoying and hyper, but people need to cut them some slack. Jedward-hating was funny two years ago. It's a bit sad now tbh.
May 4, 201114 yr I'm biased because I really dislike them, sorry. I found them irritating on X Factor, the singles that they released were horrible, the album of theirs that I was forced to play and endure over and over again when I worked at Asda last year was horrendous and I find them cocky and over confident, when in reality, to me they're effective entertainers (not to me, but I can see why people like them) but sub-par singers. Fair enough about patriotism, but I'm actually supporting I Can because it's a great entry, original or not and imo it's the most contemporary entry of the 2011 contest by far. No UK member on this forum was hyping up Josh Dubovie last year, it was a diabolical entry and we all rightly panned it. I'm supporting I Can because it genuinely is my favourite entry this year - the last time my favourite entry was sent by the UK was 1999, and I wasn't even a follower of the contest then! Jessica, Daz and Jade were amongst my top 3 of their respective years but none were my absolute favourite - and when the UK sends an abomination they're rightly at the bottom of my rankings - stand up Andy Abraham and Josh Dubovie. If the UK had sent Jedward I can assure you that they'd be no higher in my rankings, probably lower out of sheer disgust  And like in 2008/2010, I'd be supporting their failure - if only because it sends the message to the BBC that we DO NOT want these terrible entries/acts representing us! It appears to have worked, we followed Andy with the sublime It's My Time, and we've followed Josh with what I believe to be our best entry since the 90s!
May 4, 201114 yr I totally agree with you that they are sub par singers and highly irritating, but the vast majority of people hate them for the sake of hating them, and I think it's a bit sad, especially considering they're young and have no impact in anybodies lives. If you mention the word Jedward here people roll their eyes and start bashing them for hours on end as if the twins have personally insulted everybody on the island, but the reality is is that most people do it just to fit in. I find them hyper and spontaneous, I don't find them cocky or over-confident. They don't take themselves seriously so I don't know why other people do. :heehee: I rate the entries based on studio versions, so that's why Jedward are high on my list. Dervish were diabolical and would have been near the bottom of my list for 2007, so I completely know where you're coming from in terms of Andy Abraham and Josh. :P I understand that the over-playing of their album must have been horrendous and it is bound to turn anybody off. Like I said, Blue's entry is fantastic and I hope they are in the top 10, but I'd rather a more original, more unknown entry/artist to win because I view Eurovision as a platform for aspiring musicians, not established ones. I'd be equally as angry if Jedward won (which Google is predicting to happen ) because we've sent better songs which have failed spectacularly. I'd like to see Estonia or France win, although the former's rehearsal was far from great. :(

I'd like to see Estonia or France win, although the former's rehearsal was far from great. :( I don't dislike them for the sake of it or to fit in, I just personally find them ridiculously irritating and over-exposed. They KEEP on popping up all over the place, novelty X Factor acts never usually have a shelf life of more than a few months but it feels like they've been everywhere for the last couple of years! I'm annoyed by anybody like this - Katie Price, Kerry Katona etc...media can't get enough of these people and they're shoved down your throats even though a lot of people don't really like them! Their music all smacked of yet another Simon Cowell engineered get rich quick scheme - what with the album of unimaginative covers that was probably made in a day - the funny thing is, if they'd launched their career with an original song like Lipstick, I don't think I'd have minded them half as much :o The over-confident comments come from their comments like 'we've heard all the other songs, and ours is definitely the best - we're going to win for sure' or whatever it is they've been saying - it's nice to be confident but I just take an instant dislike to people who believe in their own hype, in all walks of life :drama: Fair enough, the studio version is verging on ok - the song itself, production etc... are all actually pretty good - and contemporary in a 2009 sort of way, but even on record I don't rate their voices, and it really does put me off it a lot - I'd never listen to it out of choice. I loved the studio version of the Dervish song but indeed they truly deserved their last place for that ear-splittingly bad vocal :( I can see your point about wanting a more original entry to win - and for that something like France would be perfect (though a very good song, I'm not sure if Estonia is quite as unique as people are making it out to be, it's like Anna Abreu meets Lolly ) and I'd welcome a France win - or even Norway - as that's equally unique in terms of the competition. I don't have any problem though personally with establish acts being entered and winning - I've always seen ESC as a platform for each country to send your best artists, a representation of your culture and music scene and I'd actively encourage it over sending an also-ran that sees ESC as their last chance at launching a music career, as most UK entries seem to be.
May 4, 201114 yr I risked watching that rehersal - got as far as the chorus and it HAD to be stopped. I don't know whether to laugh at them, or be concerned for them. One of them looks retarded on stage purely because he's genuinely "a bit slow" and always slightly behind everyone else with the choreography. I blame Louis Walsh. Well, someone has to be blamed!!!
May 5, 201114 yr Im not a jedward fan and still am dispointed they are representing Ireland instead of Nikki Kavanagh but i will say that performance isnt quite as bad as i thought it would be, vocally they have improved (in their case the only way is up) and a few more rehearsals wont do them any harm, i still dont think they will qualify for the final but they will pick up points.

That's fair enough because I don't know how they're marketed in the UK (they seem to be way bigger in the UK than they are here though!). But here they do a lot of good (either for charity work or pantomime for kids) and people still seem to think they're useless. I fully agree that they're irritating, that they can't sing, and that they are over-exposed - so that's one thing we definitely see eye-to-eye on! People here give them a hard time for doing campaigns for UNICEF, which is a lot more than what most people are doing here now, so I just fully understand the hatred for them in Ireland. With regards the rehearsal, it's nowhere near as bad as I expected, and again, it was on par with some others. This year is a bit rubbish in terms of the quality of the singers, but the songs themselves are fantastic. Will we qualify? No, but 11th - 13th is quite possible.
May 6, 201114 yr Whatever I think of them, it does look as though Jedward are now sailing into the final :o They've been chosen as the most likely qualifier by accredited media at the rehearsal. I do wonder if they can defy the odds completely and pull off an Alf Poier sort of result in the final actually - they'll certainly be one of the most memorable acts. It would be quite ironic if an act like this got Ireland their best placing since their glory days  And whilst I'm not a fan, it would be good to have them in the final from a UK point of view as it will attract so much more attention and casual viewers to the contest. It could get the highest ratings we've had in years...I did think that Dana International would be a big draw too but the hype around her has been non-existent, and I'm really not sure that the song is strong enough or particularly deserves to reach the final.
May 6, 201114 yr I think the best we can hope for if that "miracle" result does come about is probably something like 11th-15th I can't really see us breaking into the top ten no matter how much lady luck is on our side. Edited May 6, 201114 yr by Sabrewulf
May 6, 201114 yr Whatever I think of them, it does look as though Jedward are now sailing into the final :o They've been chosen as the most likely qualifier by accredited media at the rehearsal. How bizarre! Since seeing the rehearsal, I've had a reversal of opinion and am now predicting 14th place in the semi for them  . That said, I would like to see them through to the final as they're my 6th favourite in the semi. Semi Final 2 is very wide open, only 5 countries are definitely going through to the final and the remaining five places could go to any of about 7 or 8 countries.
May 7, 201114 yr How do the accredited media at rehearsal normally do with predictions? Not seen any of them in the past. Tbh, Ireland are one of about 13 countries I'd like to qualify from semi two. There's advantages & disadvantages, which mean I'm not 100% sure either way (they're performing last, and the performance is certainly memorable - on the other hand, even if the public do pick up their phones, I dunno if the jury would go for them).
May 7, 201114 yr We didn't think that the juries or the public would back Russia last year, but they did to a certain extent. It still remains a mystery to me. I still don't see Ireland qualifying. I know Jedward have everything going for them (excellent running order, backing of accredited media/fans) but I still can't see it happening. Edited May 7, 201114 yr by Cal
May 7, 201114 yr Didn't the juries vote Russia in at 14th place last year? If it wasn't for the strong public support Russia gets year after year just for being Russia, they'd have been out. I personally can see Jedward going the same way as InCulto.

May 7, 201114 yr I regard 14th to be quite high because it was truly appalling. I saw it's charm ^_^ . It was certainly nowhere near the worst song competing last year.
May 8, 201114 yr Irelands odds seem to be improving and from the odds i have seen over the last few days on paddy power etc it seems Jedward are in with a chance of qualifying.
