http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2010/ceelogreen-fkyou.jpg 05. Cee Lo Green - Forget You! [#1]

In 2006 Gnarls Barkley took the UK charts by storm when 'Crazy' became the first ever single to enter the UK charts at no. 1 with just download sales. Over the last four years this feat has happened several times but the first time would always be remembered most fondly. Since 'Crazy' (which also went to no. 1 in my chart) Cee Lo Green enjoyed a second chart topper as featured vocalist on 'Lil' Star' by Kelis. 2010 saw Cee Lo Green release his first solo album 'The Ladykiller' of which 'Forget You!' was the first single to be released. The excellent motown/soul inspired track rocketed to #1 in my chart where it spent three weeks and is currently no. 15 in my weekly chart.

Yep that was the one, Love In July would have got my 10 points  Both Fireflies and Love In July made my chart for quite a few weeks!

I had heard of The Postal Service and their abomination of a cover of Against All Odds but I completely agree, I think another thing that people didn't like is that it was like 'The Postal Service for kids', because most people favour lyrics over catchy melodies. Sadly I'm more shallow and prefer a catchy chorus when I'm listening to pop music. If I want words I'll read books :heehee:

I don't see what the big fuss over the whole thing was myself, hundreds of songs/artists sound the same...so what if he refused to admit that he'd been influenced by them, I'm sure my LB9 songs sound like a load of dance I've listened to in the 90s/early 00s but I wouldn't say that 'ah yes, BBE were a huge inspiration of mine', because frankly they weren't. You may have subconsciously been influenced by something even if you're not necessarily a fan/loon of it in the first place.

Iirc, I gave 'Robots In Love' 8 points. Can't remember who I gave my 10 points too. Unless it was Beautiful Small Machines.

To be honest, all the claims against Owl City probably did him good as it must've raised his profile. Anyways, it was pretty clear from the lyrics/music video that the song is all about fantasy and daydreams. Silly nonsense lyrics similar to that of 'The Land Of Make Believe' by Bucks Fizz. I agree with you, if there's a really strong melody or killer hook in the song then that can often sell a song to me before I even listen to the vocals/lyrics.

If you claimed that you were influeced by BBE, I'm sure most people would be thinking "who?".

:o at all the Postal Service talk... I actually do think that We Will Become Silhouettes IS catchier than Fireflies. :o

I'm not sure what I expect to be your #1 Hits. Oh, actually, now I think about it, yes I do. What I meant to say was that I have no idea what your #2 will be Hits.

I thought you gave Robots In Love 10, I'm sure I recall that because we both gave 12 points to the same song and swapped tens!

I definitely agree, he won't have minded the raised profile. All the haters did was serve to give Fireflies more attention and make it even more popular!

Haha yes, exactly what most of the world thought when all this Postal Service malarkey came about I expect :P I'll honestly never understand why people can't just enjoy the music, or not as the case may be. If you don't like a song or artist, just ignore it/them, why launch a bitter hate campaign against it :/

Having already topped my personal chart as featured vocalist on both 'Nothin' On You' and 'Billionaire', Bruno Mars scored his third no. 1 hit with 'Just The Way You Are'. If there's anything that's amazed me about this track it's the fact that Matt Cardle's performance of the track on The X Factor had a massive effect on sales for this song and it returned to #1 in its fifth week on the UK chart selling 116k. It might be considered a bit "sloppy" for some peoples' tastes but for me, this is a modern day classic in the making.

The Postal Service for #1 :o

Was it 'We Will Become Silhouettes' that got posted last year on ChC? I know someone posted the video and made a rant about how Owl City was ripping them off and how outraged they were because he denied it. Whatever track it was, there was very strong similarities in the two tracks' formulae.

Oohh, do elaborate Tom. Let's see what your prediction for #1 is and see if you're correct. :P

Maybe I did, this was July 2009? I've slept since then, it's a wonder I can remember what was happening last December.

Perhaps it was all part of the masterplan - maybe they secretly loved Owl City but didn't want to admit it. So they used The Postal Service as an excuse to make 'Fireflies' a big hit? Highly unlikely of course. :P

Why make hate campaigns? Probably because some people haven't got anything better to do with themselves. -_-

I'm assuming it will be LTWYL... it seems to have been on your chart since about 1994.

Maybe your thoughts might change after I reveal what #3 is...

As we get to the top 3 of 2010, two of the tracks feature very little English. Unless you consider "la la la la la laaa" English!!! :heehee: Stromae became a YouTube sensation following the rise in popularity for 'Alors On Danse' where the track went to #1 in fourteen countries. Whether Stromae has a second hit in my chart is left to be seen. For the time being Stromae is a bonafide one hit wonder...but what a one hit wonder!!! ** insert disco smilie **

Nope, thoughts are still the same. :P

Woo, great to see Stromae at #3! Beat me, Alors On Danse was #4 in my EOY chart, just pushed out of the top three at the last minute by Take That! Seriously great song

Australian dance duo Yolanda Be Cool and producer DCup teamed up and sampling 'Tu Vuò Fà L'americano' by Renato Carosone, 'We No Speak Americano' was born. It might not be to everyone's taste but its quirkiness and sheer bizarreness won me over. Perhaps slightly surprising Stromae didn't finish the year above Yolanda Be Cool.

Which of course means...

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2010/eminem-ltwyl.jpg 01. Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie [#1]

...Dandy* was right. He's ruined everything!!! :drama: :P Maybe it was inevitable but despite just the one week at #1, 'Love The Way You Lie' has been hanging around my chart for years it seems - still in my chart this week although at #30. Plus, we can't forget Rihanna who as I already mentioned has dominated my chart throughout 2010. Thoroughly deserved to see this as my Chart of 2010 #1 single. Definitely one of the years defining moments in pop, imo. Hopefully it'll remain as the UK's biggest selling single of 2010 too. :D

...and that is it for 2010. It starts all over again though this Saturday with my first chart of 2011. No rest for the wicked. :drama:

Thanks for reading, hope you've enjoyed it, etc...

Will we get a nice recap post? It's FAR easier to comment that way...

Quite close at the top! Would have preferred to see Stromae above Yolanda personally! I can't argue with that top ten though. I'm not a fan of She Said but the other nine were all in my EOY top 100 :D And what is this fully male led top five? On BuzzJack? Get out.

I like the following from your year end Hits, the ones I really like are in bold while ones I wouldn't switch off are kept in. Everything else is obliterated.

When I read Dandy's comment saying he knew what no. 1 was going to be but didn't know what no. 2 would be, I actually thought Stromae was being referred. Considering 'Alors On Danse' climbed to its peak (10-05-03-01), spent 4 weeks at no. 1 and then stuck around for an age I'm surprised it wasn't #1. However, 'Love The Way You Lie' is a worthy no. 1 of 2010 for me - again, that track didn't go into my chart at #1 either - it actually missed out initially (02-02-03-03-01). I'm glad that I did give 'LTWYL' at least one week at the top.

Fully male led top 5 on Buzzjack? Poor Rihanna!!! :drama: :P

24/40 - that's not bad at all. :D I didn't know you liked 'We No Speak Americao' (ok, it's not bold but it's listed :P ).

I do quite like the Yolanda track actually, it interested me which is more than most dance singles do these days. I definitely downloaded it when it was out, can't remember if it made my chart or not though - it's definitely not in my year end but it's not too bad at all.

I'll be keeping a close eye on your Chart of 2010 thread as it looks like it could be the alternative to Unknown Pleasures and I might discover something that I'd overlooked during the year. Once you've posted a recap, even if it's 200-101, then I will post some comments. :D
