Mick Karn, bassplayer with probably the best band of the 80s Japan, passed away today.

R.I.P. Mick, you will be missed.

I'd read a few months back that he was ill but this is really sad. I'd never heard of Japan before I went to Leeds Poly in 1981 and some girls I shared a house with forced me to listen to an album. I'm glad they did.

So sad :snif: Japan are one of my favourite bands, and he invented the bass sound of the 80s. A tremendous loss. RIP :(
Wow Aly, I didn't think you'd be into Japan :o Me and my partner did a lot of work to help him out in the last 18 months or so, we organised a charity Japan night at a bar in the City. It's a shame that had to die, but I hope we made the last few months of his life more comfortable.
My favourite Japan song :(

My favourite Japan track as well

Japan was one of my favourite bands of the 80s, its my era.

I didn't know he was ill with cancer, and died so young, only 52

RIP

RIP Mr Karn... let's not forget his sterling solo work, too - and, of course, his stellar work on many Kate Bush albums - in fact, his trademark wobbly bass can be heard on most Kate songs from 82 onwards - many he didn't even get credit for....

My favourite Kan moment is 'Buoy', his collaboration with David Sylvian...... totally beautiful.
