Three top five appearances for DJ Sammy's Heaven so far :D

Everyone knows originals >>>>>>>>> covers usually but this quite clearly wasn't the case with Bryan Adams and DJ Sammy.

Great! I need to download this right now, it's the only one of this ten missing from my iPod and I have no idea why.

Good god YES. I have no idea how anybody could have more than one track from the last three years in a list of the greatest songs of all-time, let alone over half with some artists' career lows in there...

STONE COLD CLASSICS

(genuinely in the last case but shh)

If I'm being completely honest I did LOVE 'F.U.R.B.' at the time and still listen to it for classic lines such as 'I must admit I'm glad, I didn't catch your crabs'. ICON.

Why exactly? If I'd been asked to compile a list of my top ten favourite songs ever at the end of 1999, all of them would have been from 1998 and 1998, because I only took a noted interest in music in 1998, and didn't start tracking backwards until the early 00's. People like Regina are probably only just starting to LOVE/obsess over music, hence such recent tracks featuring.

Just as well it wasn't a top 11, a certain Lena lies in 11th place in mine currently

As for the actual quality of the songs in each person's top ten - well, each to their own frankly.

I didn't particularly elucidate it, mainly because what I was going to originally say (i.e. 'they can't have heard much music') sounded far more patronising than I intended it to for the point I was trying to make...

Lena comes in 11th? :o I'd be incredibly reluctant to put anything from the last year so high as I wouldn't quite trust myself to be judging entirely objectively - I still feel a little reluctant to have Bad Romance in my top three even though it's been over a year by now! Each to their own of course - I just think people are possibly being a tad hasty popping anything from the last six months in their all-time favourites

It boggles my mind how you can put songs in your top ten which have been around for such little time

As they get older some favourites will remain and others will drop away. I mean, look at my top ten - the top three from 1999 still in there - Better Off Alone, Runaway and Back In My Life - because it was the most impressionable time of my life music wise - it was all new to me and the amazing really were a-ma-zing and the memories/good feelings have stuck with me massively. I think when you first 'discover' music, everything new does sound like 'the best thing ever' but you do eventually get round to hearing older stuff and realise that there's definitely a lot more out there and that your early favourites may not have been as original and groundbreaking as they first seemed

Yep! It's hardly that much newer than Bad Romance considering I first heard it in March, so that's almost a year now and it did essentially define 2010 for me. I can safely say that I prefer Satellite to the song at #12 but don't like it as much as the top ten. Of course this may change in the future though but I can't see me ever really getting bored of it now if I haven't in the last 10 months! Bad Romance is 19th in mine btw! I think after 6 months, it becomes acceptable, I certainly wouldn't put The Flood, White Light Moment or What's My Name up there quite yet, they do need to stand the test of time a bit first and I can't see any of them going anywhere near the top ten anyway. I should mention that the gulf between Back In My Life and Satellite is HUGE.

I kind of get both sides of the argument. It IS quite ridiculous having a song in your all-time top 10 which came out a month ago, but Gooddelta's point is also valid - I know that a lot of my favourites will be 1998 - the year I got into music and was discovering everything for the first time.

Nowadays however, I'm a bit more discerning, and it takes me AGES to accept anything as an all-time favourite. I can probably count on one hand the number of songs from the past few years that will make that list (Empire Of The Sun "We Are The People", Gabriella Cilmi "Sweet About Me", Katy Perry "Hot N Cold" and Nelly Furtado "Say It Right" at a stretch I guess).

Anyhow, I can't be arsed to really sit and think about this, but just plucking randoms from my head...

01. The Corrs - Closer

02. Erasure - You Surround Me

03. Level 42 - Heaven In My Hands

04. Zero 7 - Destiny

05. Chicane - No Ordinary Morning

06. Des'ree - Feel So High (and yes that's SERIOUSLY)

07. Garbage - When I Grow Up

08. Inner City - Good Life

09. Madonna - Frozen

10. Sting - Fields Of Gold

MEH. Better dull than just pandering to the usual BJ stereotype. GaGa? CHECK. Britney? CHECK. Furtado? CHECK. YAWN.

And it is NOT (although I do of course own it).

Late 80's original Good Life or Good Life (Buena Vida)? I'm fully on board if it's the latter  Destiny, No Ordinary Morning, Feel So High and Frozen are also amazing.

Oh the latter definitely. I have a lot of time for the original, but Buena Vida is as breezy and feel-good as dance gets. Beautiful.
