*Caro Emerald - A Night Like This Her album seems to be selling more on Amazon at the moment. Fingers crossed a big promo campaign starts soon to help this song chart high, I can't see why it can't be a hit in the UK

*Emma's Imagination - Keep Good song, my favourite on the album is Drive though :wub:

*Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir - Ástin Mín Eina :wub: Love this, at the moment I prefer it to Yohanna's entry this year. Iceland will probably struggle to qualify this year though being in semi final 1 :(

*Hanna Guðný Hitchon - Huldumey Quite a nice song, shame this or Elisabet failed to qualify :(

*Helene Bøksle - Vardlokk I'm not really into this, it really lacks the catchiness that Alvedansen had

*Keisha Buchanan - Under Control Not heard, is it good?

*Maria Haukaas Mittet - Glorious I've yet to hear this, but I can't get used to her new name :lol: . I'm quite surprised she hasn't kept her old name like most famous people do. At least she's got the Haukaas there to remind people who she is :kink:

*Rebekka Karijord - Wear It Like A Crown Good to see this here, hope it can make the top 20 at some point!

*Sichelle - Trenger Mer This was pretty good, shame it failed to qualify. Norway seems to have something against pop music :lol: :(

*The Naked & Famous - Young Blood It was inevitable that this would get a re-release. I wonder how well it'll do in the UK

Great to see Britney into your top three! It's most definitely one of my all-time favourites of hers, but that's obviously to change in the future depending on whether it ages well (which, given the change of direction, I fear it may not).

You know, I hate her, but I think "Everytime" is much better, "Toxic" is much better, "Break The Ice" is better, "Womanizer" is better, "Circus" is better... Even if none of the songs weren`t on my chart... In fact, Everytime could be, but I didn`t make my chart in 2004. Toxic wasn`t bad, too. It was a hit! I wasn`tnterested in music as much as now, but I clearly remember the popularity of that song! It was impossible to escape, it was everywhere!. Music video... :D I used to enjoy this song. But HIAM? She hasn`t had so horrible song since "Piece Of Me". :P Ah, even artists, which I don`tlike, once they were cooler than now...

 

Wow, well I loved Piece Of Me too :lol: And I was never much of a Britney fan before that song in fact - I charted Sometimes at #2 in 1999 and then her next hit was Everytime in 2004, which didn't get very high (#27 I think).

True about Carina, it probably came dead last in its semi. And I know what you mean about Anna's song too, she's definitely had far better in the past but I do like this song. I wouldn't even mind if A Night Like This flopped as a single in the UK if it helped the album out but neither seem to be on any official radar so far :( She definitely needs to do some promo! Did you like Emma's album overall then? I found Drive incredibly boring, definitely my least favourite song on there :drama:

 

I really like Astin Min Eina but I doubt it will beat Yohanna's song to win the Iceland NF - I did prefer Huldumey though definitely, and would have really liked to see it go further. Vardlokk is definitely growing on me but the lack of a definitive hook is a problem - if it won MGP I don't see how it would do much better than Didrik did, considering Alvedansen couldn't even make the top ten in 2006 :drama: Keisha's song is decent, but not amazing - a bit Robyn like oddly. Ha, I know what you mean about Maria, I don't like her new name but that's what it says on the CD cover so I have to chart it as that :heehee: I always assumed that her surname was Haukaas Storeng, but it must have just been Storeng with Haukaas as some sort of visible middle name or something! I doubt Wear It Like A Crown will make my top 20 but I do like it, certainly enough to playlist it. Trenger Mer continues to grow on me, gutted it didn't make second chance even, yet Aste & Rikki won the semi :wacko: Yep indeed, I hope Young Blood's a big hit here!

True, it very much has that 'winner' vibe to it, at least for the NF. The song doesn't seem as catchy as Is It True but maybe because I've only heard it 3 times so far...The only act that's returned with a weaker song and done better with it than their last entry is Dima Bilan, but he's from Russia so it's half expected seeing as 12's are dished out from all of the ex Soviet nations to them no matter what crap they send. Iceland won't get away with pulling the same trick. Vardlokk's firstly too old fashioned to make an impact on ESC, and secondly not memorable enough. I agree that Alvedansen deserved top five, but I was also disgusted at the flop's of UK and Germany in 2006 (and only 5th for Carola), all of my favourites underperformed. Yes, I'd expect it must be :lol: I've just listened to the Aste & Rikki song again but it really does sound as cheap and dated as I remember from the first few listens, maybe I should watch the live performance again because I'm not getting it at the moment :lol:

I liked Russia's entries in 2003 and 2004, but I'm not overly fussed on the others. 2008 was a bit of a random year for the contest, I think I predicted a Greece win that year. Similar to Iceland, Norway are going to have to enter something brilliant to qualify this year I think as they are competiting for one of 4, maybe 5 qualifying places.

I liked Russia's entries in 2003 and 2004, but I'm not overly fussed on the others. 2008 was a bit of a random year for the contest, I think I predicted a Greece win that year. Similar to Iceland, Norway are going to have to enter something brilliant to qualify this year I think as they are competiting for one of 4, maybe 5 qualifying places.

 

I only liked Believe Me and Song #1 really from Russia, oh and Alsou's Solo. The latter two coming top three was imo deserved (in fact the only other song I even particularly liked from the 2000 contest was Once In A Lifetime), tATu's song was ok but I'm glad they didn't win with it like everyone expected them to. Most of their entries are ridiculously overrated though.

 

Indeed, although looking back to prediction threads on this forum pre-contest, I actually predicted the Russia-Ukraine-Greece-Armenia top 4 correctly and in the right order as well! Safe to say I didn't picture Norway coming 5th, Maria really pulled it out of the bag with her fantastic performance :wub: But it definitely wasn't a vintage year overall, even though I'd rank that and Hero amongst my all time ESC faves.

 

It's so sad that we can predict which countries will likely make it through without hearing any of the songs. I just hope that this is finally the year that if Bosnia-Herzegovina/Russia/Azerbaijan etc...end up sending crap, that they actually pay the price.

 

r.e. Emma's Imagination - Drive was actually one of my favourites on the album re-listening to it again :lol: I must have got it confused with something else :wacko: I prefer it to Bic Runga's version actually.

I have all of them from 1996-2010 on DVD and considering it was in Sweden, and indeed Globen, where I've been myself, I have no attachment watching the 2000 contest at all, the songs are terrible or average. I didn't even like Don't Play That Song Again that much, although I did love her cover of Total Eclipse Of The Heart, but it's one of those songs that I love no matter who sings it I think :lol: I started properly watching in 2001 but from the DVD's, I also loved the song quality in 1996 and 1999. 1997 and 1998 were ok but I can only say that I love two or three songs from each.

 

Definitely, her last place draw was a blessing, a great close to the contest :wub: I don't look back on 2008's contest overly fondly, especially in comparison to 2009 which was amazing and made 2008 look awful. I couldn't even bring myself to vote for Sweden on the night, Charlotte's performance was so tragic :lol: I voted for Maria and Euroband!

Her cover of Total Eclipse was pretty great, but I adored her mid-00's singles I Surrender and Calling Out My Name :wub: . 1999 was the first contest I took a lot of notice of, I remember bits of 96 (Gina G) and 98 (Dana International and the Croatian entrant who removed her shawl), but 1999 was the year I became hooked :lol: . 1997 completely passed me by, but I have seen it on DVD since. Iceland's entry that year was majorly brilliant and criminally underrated!

 

2009 was fantastic, I don't think it will be topped. Almost all the right songs qualified to the final and the Big 4 entered some of their best entries to date. The only song that spoilt it slightly was the Lithuanian one. Charlotte looked like the living dead in 2008 :( . Iceland and Bosnia (iirc) got my vote in the final.

 

I agree, although I did like the Ukrainian song, but it certainly didn't deserve a top half finish. Sweden, Croatia, Finland and arguably Slovakia all failing to qualify was a travesty imo.

I don't think I ever heard those, or at least don't recall them. I loved Gina G, Eimear, Elisabeth and One More Time from the 96 contest but only really liked Katrina in 97 although you're right, the Iceland entry is probably my 2nd favourite (or the Swedish boyband :lol:). 1998 I liked Imaani, Chiara and appreciate Dana but never thought much of the song. I do remember my brother buying the Imaani song on CD single, because I recall asking him how come he was suddenly a Eurovision fan - turns out he just liked the song - ah the days when the general public would also buy Eurovision related music - certainly over 80% of Gina G's 850,000 buyers weren' Eurovision loons I'm assuming!

 

I agree definitely, the one tiny letdown for me was Switzerland doing so badly and I'd have liked Malena to have done better after her high finish in the semi but I guess she did the same thing as Hera did this year. More actual ESC fans watch and vote in the semis for the traditional Europop/Schlager and then the general public are disinterested in the final :( I even liked that Lithuanian song tbh, I charted it at #25 or something :lol: Wasn't the best way to kick off the final though! I don't recall watching it on TV but of course I knew Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit, I just didn't know it had anything to do with ESC. I agree about Imaani, it was really spot on for 1998, very contemporary at the time.

 

Oh well, at least the Eurovision obsessives get the big camp schlager into the final. It's a shame that it always flops but rather it be there and flop than go out in the semis. I agree, Charlotte looked fine before - she's buggered up her face now :(
