This is an album I'd heard about before but never investigated.

The reason why I bring this up now is that in a recent survey of the best albums released in Q's lifetime this album made it to number 16, ahead of Funeral, Kid A, In Rainbows, Absolution, Only By the Night,...you get the picture...

Now I know there was possibly some sort of campaign for this album to do so well but I was wondering had anyone any opinion on it?

Maybe this should be in the Retro Forum - if so then a mod should move it there if they wish.

It's an incredible album. Not the best of all time but it's super guud. A lot of is based off Anne Frank which I enjoy.

(Also, I'd say most music is better than Absolution or Only By the Night...)

Yeah, this is pretty good. It was a bit too shouty for me at first but I've grown rather fond of it over the years.

You should take a listen Tony, I suspect it may be up your street.

Great album. Definatly better than the other albums listed in the first post. Mayve slightly overrated sometimes though.

I haven't listened to this so can't comment on it (I aim to rectify this as soon as possible)

But any list that has American Idiot above The Holy Bible (and Coldplay at #12) should probably be taken with a pinch of salt.

The more I look at this list the more I find it laughable. No Spirtualized's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space (which I think is better than OK Computer), Pearl Jam are at 41 and The Killers albums are rediculously high. And All That You Can't Leave Behind at 46!

Spirtualized's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space is in the list.

It's voted for by the public - or rather a section of the few hundred thousand that read Q. Hence so many U2 albums....

Whoops! Missed that.

But then I noticed that all these are below Paolo Nutini!

128. Paolo Nutini – Sunny Side Up – 2009

129. Radiohead – Amnesiac – 2001

130. The Orb – U.F.Orb – 1992

131. Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot – 2002

132. Nirvana – Mtv Unplugged In New York – 1994

133. Bjork – Post – 1995

134. Pavement – Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - 1994

135. Tricky – Maxinquaye – 1995

I have now heard this and I must say it is a good album. Not a classic and certainly doesn't match up to the hype put forward by Pitchfork (who gave a reissue of it a perfect 10).

His voice can be a little grating at times though.

But just in terms of general influence, it's just a huge record. So many people know and adore this record. I do think it's a little overrated but it's hard to not regard it as classic, especially in indie music.

I think it's rated more in The US rather than here in the UK. I had never heard of it  until I read the Pitchfork review, although it didn't make me listen to the record. (I just thought "Oh God here we go again, typical PF again.")

I must get past my distrust and annoyance with a lot of stuff that Pitchfork write in their reviews and just use it as a source of info.

I will investigate tomorrow. Are they an American band?

they probably do have some more impact here tbh, i know so many kids who cite this as one of the most important records to them growing up / growing into their musical tastes. though it doesn't come off as childish, even today.

and yeah LOL pitchfork reviews can be annoying. they can also be really good. in general i frequent the news / article section more than anywhere else, though i do check for reviews. i think they get quite an unfortunate rep, a lot of people hate on them because it's more of a 'thing to do' rather than honest hatred (or they read one bad review for one of their favorite musicians and take great offence, not realizing there's an entire staff behind pitchfork and reviews are just one person). i know so many people who h8 on pitchfork all the time whose favorite bands probably owe a ton to p4k. shhhrug.

but they do p*** me off sometimes, mainly in terms of rating things super low for shock. their white lies review was LOL tho.

The content of Pitchfork can be questionable but I find the writing to be great and entertaining mostly.

Two Headed Boy is my fave at the moment. Interesting album. I like his voice.
I've always been meaning to get this album too, but never actually got round to it. Think I may finally get it, given all the praise it's got here.
