January 1, 201213 yr So Adele has spent the last 48 weeks in the Album Top 10 with '21'. Is this a first, or have we seen it before?
January 1, 201213 yr So Adele has spent the last 48 weeks in the Album Top 10 with '21'. Is this a first, or have we seen it before? *49 :P I highly doubt it's a first but I think it must be a 'first since [insert x date quite a long time ago]'.
January 1, 201213 yr *49 I highly doubt it's a first but I think it must be a 'first since [insert x date quite a long time ago]'. I apologize, I'm still living in Christmas time :P
January 4, 201213 yr http://www.billboard.com/#/news/adele-rule...005784152.story 21's official end-of-year tally in the US was 5.82 million - the highest total within a calendar year since Usher in 2004 - according to the above article :D Rolling In The Deep sold almost exactly the same amount of downloads (5.81 million). Obviously they're both #1 in their respective end of year charts, '21' selling over double the #2. Party Rock Anthem came reasonably close-ish (5.47 million) - will probably overtake Rolling In The Deep's overall total in a couple of months' time but it's the sales within 2011 that count in this instance :kink: The article also says that '21' is back at #1 again for a 14th non-consecutive week :D EDIT: And looking down a bit further 'Someone Like You' was the 7th highest digital seller of 2011 with 3.75 million :D And it also says '21' sold 1.8 million digitally (again obviously taking the #1 digital album of the year) :D ANOTHER EDIT: And the main albums chart report says '21' is now joint third (with Whitney Houston's debut) in the list of female albums with the most weeks at #1 - will move up to joint 2nd (with Carole King's Tapestry) if it manages one more week. The #1 on the list (Whitney Houston again with The Bodyguard soundtrack) is a bit ahead with 20 weeks but I guess that's another aim for '21' :P Edited January 4, 201213 yr by Coldbray
January 9, 201213 yr Another couple of records broken according to this week's MW report: 21st century record for consecutive weeks in the UK top 10 albums (50, 2nd place is 'The Fame' with 41). Cumulative 21st century record is 72 weeks ('The Fame' and 'Back To Black' - the latter counts a week where both the original and the deluxe were top 10 as 2 separate weeks).Apparently it also has the record for most separate 'runs' at #1 on the US Billboard 200 - it's been at #1 on nine separate occasions, seven of them were only for a week though.
January 23, 201213 yr And another record to add to the list :cheer: ...lowest sales to get the UK #1 album in the 21st century :kink: Doesn't matter; still a record. (On a more positive note, according to Suedehead's commentary this week, '21' is now the longest-running #1 by a British act ever in the USA, excluding Fleetwood Mac who are only half British). Not a record, but in returning to #1 '21' is the thirteenth album to have 5 or more runs at #1 in the UK. Also she's equalled the career total weeks at the albums chart #1 (21) by Oasis and Queen. January 24, 201213 yr I think the low sales for this week and having the lowest sales for anumber 1 album in the 21st century will be overlooked by many due to its success, achieving number 1 again a year on from its release with huge overall sales is still very impressive. In a way it is still hard to take in just how successful this album has become and i dont think anyone saw it coming. The album has yet to leave the top 10 and it has plenty of chart life left in yet, we know now its a cert to pass 4 million Uk sales so the question is can it manage to get to 5 million?
January 24, 201213 yr It's #2 in today's midweeks: 50 copies behind Coldplay! She'll probably get there by Sunday for its 21st week!
January 24, 201213 yr I don't think anyone's looking at this latest Adele record as a negative thing, at least not for Adele. To be selling 25k after a whole year on the shelves (and nearly 4 million sold) is a feat in itself. It says a lot about the dire album market though, but then every January is the same.
January 27, 201213 yr Forgot to mention this, but RITD, SFTTR and SLY all three were in the top 10 of best selling singles of 2011 in the Netherlands!
January 29, 201213 yr Unfortunately didn't manage to get #1 in the end. Down from #1 to #3! Oh well...we should get week 21 after the Brits!
February 1, 201213 yr It may have lost out on the pole position, but in terms of actual sales it was a tight race, I agree, i think when the Brits are aired Adele will be going straight back to number 1 with a large sales increase. What will be interesting to see in 2012 is when the album will start to dip, I think I am correct in stating the album has never left the UK Top 10 to date, so I am wondering how many more weeks will it stay there before it drops out. Also for prediction purposes how many weeks do you believe 21 will have on the offical charts? Will it be one of those album like Abba Gold for example and build up over 300-400 weeks on the chart?
February 15, 201213 yr Hits Daily Double's Rumor Mill section (no idea if that's reliable or what) says this: It’s the perfect storm for six-time Grammy winner Adele’s XL/Columbia album 21, as the release explodes at retail, marking a year since its release last Feb. Judging by how sales settle after the post-Grammy, post-Valentine’s Day rush, Adele should do, conservatively, between 550-600k this week—her best to date—making her #1 for the, coincidentally, 21st week, tying the Soundscan mark set by MC Hammer’s Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em in 1990. And, ironically, bettering the 20 weeks logged at #1 by the late Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard soundtrack. Adele's previous album, 19, and live DVD are also catching fire in the marketplace. If that's the conservative estimate then I'd imagine she could even go as high as maybe 700k?
February 17, 201213 yr Apparently the estimate for this week has gone up to 700k now. I can't find this estimate anywhere, Billboard posted a report predicting 500-600k and Hits Daily Double's most recent prediction is 650-680k. Edited February 17, 201213 yr by Bré
February 22, 201213 yr Album sold over 700k in the US this week - some estimates putting it at 800k. That is beyond incredible, absolutely stunned! What else can we say now, the success is just unbelievable!
May 17, 201213 yr http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a38...-in-the-us.html She just doesn't stop to amaze me! I'm pretty certain it will reach 10 million (Diamond status) soon!
