The singer she's most like will mean nothing to the vast majority on here (and neither should it as she's a black American blues singer from a different era), Etta James. But brought up to date, if you see what I mean. I genuinely can't say there's any singer currently who is like her. IMO, at the moment, I think Adele, along with K D Lang, is the finest live female singer in the world. Have a look on youtube there's loads of stuff to view. A fine example of how she emotes a song live:

You could say Etta James is what comes closest to Adele, even though they are VERY different, and you can't really compare them, as Etta James was more a blues/soul singer

Fantastic cover  hadn't heard it yet

'Take It All' (from '21') sung live 20 months ago! At her headline gig at the 17,000 capacity Hollywood Bowl.

There are parts in 21 where she has a slight dusty springfield element to it. Which is a huge compliment as Dusty was the woman who made room for the likes of British soul singers like Adele.

Another fantastic youtube video - she sings Sam Cook's 'That's It, I Quit, I'm Movin' On' especially for her 'greatest US fan', Randy (it's not on the set list but she sings it for Randy as she's noticed he's been singing every single lyric throughout the show). Her interraction with Randy (and her asking him if he knows the meaning of the word in England) is just so funny!

i really hope it gets #1 this week! a 3rd #2 would be gutting. plus it's completely out of the blue and i'm sure she wont be expecting it

just seen this.. wow

she could seriously sing the phone book and it'd be incredible!

That unplugged performance is the one Perez is going gaga over (if you parden the pun, lol).

Congratulations Adele.   Today must of been so overwhelming for her!
I've also got to say that I think Don't You Remember is equally as good as SLY

Agreed, they are my two faves from the album

Blog post from Adele:

I am absolutely speechless. I didn’t know what to do with myself when I found out someone like you was number 1!! That song is so special to me and it’s even more so now, thank you so much. And who the hell is still buying the album at home? Rolling in the deep was on the advert for corrie eeek! I had a brilliant time at the Brits last week, i felt very honoured and proud to be there. Sorry I cried, I’m just so overwhelmed. I’m in NY at the moment, doing letterman tonight and off to LA tomorrow if the snow stops. The albums out here tomorrow too, I’m $h!tting myself. I just wanted to drop in and say thank you and bring you up to date a little.

I think 21 will EASILY hit a million sales, it still has a good few potential hits left! Set Fire To The Rain, Rumour Has It, Don't You Remember and Turning Tables would all be big hits if released!

Adele is AMAZING. I didn't rate her during her first album and even now I can't listen to any of it except 'Chasing Pavements'. I think her second album has seen a VAST improvement in both songs and her voice and having seen her WOW so many people at the BRITs it's clear she deserves the success she is getting. Someone Like You is already one of my favourite songs of 2011 and I've booked to see her on tour in September

Set Fire to the Rain has to be a single at some point!

What would her label gain by issuing Someone Like You as a single at this point? It has pretty much achieved everything it can. Now Set Fire To The Rain is the gem that will open yet another side to the album. Round the campaign off with One & Only and there you have it. 2m album sales in the space of 8 months with just 3 single releases and hello Christmas break when extra sales will just roll in without any extra work. If Adele hadn't written the whole album, I'd say GREAT A&R!
SLY is basically a single right now anyway, even if not officially, its acting as a single and doing what a single does, sell an album, also RITD is still doing so well so SFTR doesnt really need to be out till April really. :)
