For those of you who play guitar, what famous guitarist do you seem to copy the most? Or are you a totally unique player, and you have your own sound?

As much as I'm a fan of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc, I tend to play a more thrash style influenced by Metallica. Basically, I abuse the pentatonic scale. I also play a lot of thrash style riffs.

Hi. You might also try the harmonic minor scale, sometimes known as the metal scale. Metal bands like Metallica use it a lot.

Here's a video demonstrating it

I like to mix it up. Most of my electric guitar playing is mainly influenced by Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, David Bowie, U2 and Led Zeppelin. But I love playing acoustic stuff in the style of Bob Dylan, Jamie T, Bob Marley, etc. I also have a thing that I like to take pop tracks and turn them into either acoustic tracks or heavy guitar tracks (i.e. my metal cover of 'Telephone'). I should post some videos really.

Mostly Metallica and AC/DC style riffs and solos for me.

My aim though is to be able to play like Slash. The guy gets a raw deal I think by some guitarists who say that he wasn't that technically accomplished, but I find his riffs and solos more difficult than even thrash metal stuff.

I love the sound and riffs of David Gilmore although my style doesn't match his very much. Mostly I try to recreate the sound of jazz guitar, with that warm, a bit muddy character.

I don't play guitar, but if I did. I would likely go for either a Dimebag Darrell style, or moer likely, a black metal sort of easy to learn riff. Completely different styles, I know!

I'm mainly a rhythm guitarist...I love John Lennons rhythm work for eg, quite syncopated and choppy, which I try to emulate, although I dont know how the guy manages to do those fast triplet strums in 'All my loving' and still keep the beat perfectly, when I try it always slips back to 2 beat (1-2 1-2), rather than the triplet rhythm(1-2-3 1-2-3). He must have had wrists of steel.
