  1. I have Peppers, WTSMG, Dark side of the moon and Tubular bells. All purchased the week of release except for Tubular bells. Which I bought about a month after release. (I'm old!). Only one I pre-ordered was Sgt Peppers. (I was 14 years old..I earned 6 shillings(30p ..about £5.30 in Todays money!) a week on my paper round and saved up for the album for 5 weeks. (albums were 30 shillings..£1.50...about £26.50 in todays money!).
  2. Title says it all. My example is Electric Light Orchestra..(ELO). 5 flop albums, 2 top 40, 3 failed to chart. not much single success except for 2 top tens at the start. Then they released 'A new world record' and that was the first of a string of top 10 albums, including 2 number ones....and a string top ten singles...became one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Whats your example)s)?.
  3. Just 10 rock entries....3 of them Oasis, Noel and Liam, collectively holding up the rock genre.
  4. Oasis "Wonderwall".
  5. In fact The Who never had a number one at all...from any of their singles.
  6. The albums top 20 has acts whose careers started in every decade from the fifties onwards.
  7. 44 Greg Lake "I believe in father christmas" (with orchestra) 73 Greg Lake "I believe in father christmas".

Yes..Seems only Adele can wait at least 4 years between albums and smash. 25 had a strong lead single as well.
  10. "Bad News" (Rik Mayal, Ade Edmonson etc) "Cashing in on Christmas" should be released as an alternative to the X factor single.

Who was the last Living artist to sell more albums in a week than the number one single.?.
  12. 96 Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) Climbing R.I.P. Pete.

Officially I think it's Frank Sinatra's version of 'My way"...75 weeks in the top 40, a further 49 weeks in top 70, making 124 weeks in the top 70 in total. Highest position, Number 5.

Looks possible. seems like the only way to get 3 albums in the top ten is either to die or be called 'Adele'. Amazing success for her and, imo, well deserved.

Being old..first I remember is when The Beatles failed to reach number one with "Penny lane/Strawberry fields forever"..pipped by Engelbert Humperdink. I remember being extremely annoyed lol.(I was 14). First time since Please Please me they didn't get the top spot. Made the front page headlines.
  16. Wow, in a normal week Katherine Jenkins could well get the number one album with around 6k Copies!.
  17. wow LSP , in the first update, are only a few hundred short of Zaynes whole total for last week.

Zayn will get number one...for one week. The days of big selling albums are over....(unless your name is Adele).

No, it's first day, and that's why he said "ONLY".
  20. Back in the days when a failed X factor contestant could get number one. Now the winner can't even get one.
  21. Ahh.ok..thanks.. I checked last week and she increased by about 2.2 times, but I think first midweeks then hadn't had the Brit effect much.
  22. Re Adele...I'm just going on the 2.5 times formula based on first midweeks, maybe that isn't relevant any more?.
  23. Looks like Adele isn't having to fend of anyone!. Almost 40K against 12k for Jess....Adele on 100K at least by end of week?. Certainly enough to take number one best selling album so far this year.

I think the deficit will be down to about 2-3k between Adele and 1975. In favour of 1975. but She's cut a 17k start of week deficit to 8K...Last day sales will be interesting.
