January 26, 201114 yr I love when corrie loses the fans say we love the show but we never vote as we know its the best, last year the same people when corrie won said oh i voted for it. i was reading that on other threads. Eastenders has had some fantastic stuff in the last 12 months and it has some weak stuff aswell, but from all the soaps eastenders has the most loyal dedicated fan base that stands by the show, while i did think corrie would win best soap because of the tram week i on the other hand thought eastenders fans would stand by the show after the harsh critisims of the baby swap storyline.

Pete please don't tell me that you vote on these kinds of things! I've only voted once (The Brits) and glad I did as I won tickets to see the show - but apart from that I've never voted. You're right - Eastenders fans deserved Eastenders to win because more of them took the time to vote. I knew Corrie wouldn't win. But I still know its the best. Seriously - did anyone vote for any of these tonight? Has anyone on BJ ever voted in the NT Awards? Kath Edited January 26, 201114 yr by Kathyp
January 26, 201114 yr Of course I voted (in the soap and drama categories at least). And I was quite willing to vote for any soap but in all three categories EE was the best on offer. That stuff about the Corrie fans 'not voting' or whatever is utter horseshit. Every soap's fans' vote en masse, there's no point pretending it doesn't happen or that one fanbase is any more relaxed/less desperate to win than another. But I personally quite enjoy seeing EE win for reasons besides the fact that it's the best - it's fabulous seeing a handful of the Corrie and Emmerdale cast embarrass themselves by getting catty in a way that the EE cast have never done. Kym Marsh's twitter is mortifying. The girl needs a serious bit of PR training.

Kath I voted :) not all my votes won though :( and if Eastenders only won because their fanbase is more dedicated, why did Corrie win last year? :P I think all fanbases of soaps are the same, even Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, their just not as big

I am a very loyal eastenders fan and i always vote for it when i can, and i agree eastenders deserved the win as the fans of the show took time to vote, that mixed with the fact that in my opinion it is the best soap. I agree about some other cast members been catty, and kym marsh certainly needs major pr training, whatever people think of eastenders no one can say they are never garacious in defeat and always praise their rivals in sppeches which is something the others never do. In addition the non sense where corrie and emmerdale say eastenders always win is non sense, yes they win more awards on average but the national tv awards are running 16 years, eastenders has 10 wins for best soap and corrie has 6, so its not like they have never won plus they won last year.
January 27, 201114 yr I'm not much of a telly watcher but I took some time out to watch this. Boring show I thought but it was nice to see some of my favourites win! Eastenders, Lacey Turner, Ricky Norwood (who I've ALWAYS championed), The X Factor, I'm A Celeb. I'm a bit disappointed Doctor Who picked up nothing at all (from what I can remember). Can anyone direct me to Kym Marsh's Twitter? Keen to see what she's spouting about.
January 27, 201114 yr Waterloo road has a very wide audience. Sherlock is more for the adults. Shamless is as well but that's a total $h!te show anyway. Plus people were ignorant on not giving the new doctor a chance. So i am not suprised the public voted more for waterloo road.
January 27, 201114 yr I agree with Ricky Norwood being fairly deserving. He's really done a fantastic job of turning things around for a character who not even less than a year ago NO-ONE wanted around. On the other hand I was kind of disappointed for Olga. I'm no Holby City loon, but from casual viewings I have to say I LOVE Freida.
January 27, 201114 yr I can never be bothered watching these type of things but I'm very pleased for EastEnders, in particular Ricky Norwood, who recieved much more criticism than deserved at the beginnng of the year. As brilliant as the Corrie tram crash was, I'm still very pleased for EastEnders on the whole there. Kym Marsh is in shocking need of some media training so she'll shut up. (Even if I do think Waterloo Road's quality has dipped quite a bit recently)
January 27, 201114 yr Waterloo Road winning  Doctor who should have had that in the bag :( yeah doctor who didnt win anything :(
January 27, 201114 yr yeah doctor who didnt win anything :( Yes I'm so pissed. The last series was incredible, I hated the doctor before Matt Smith. The show went really childish but the new series went really dark and the storylines were top notch. Matt Smith is amazing as the Doctor :D

Matt Smith is amazing as the Doctor :D I've never liked Doctor Who anyway - so I don't really care whether it won or not (although I must admit - Tom Baker made my head turn!). When I was young (yawn, yawn, yawn) you were either a Doctor Who fan or a Star Trek fan. I was most definitely a Star Trek fan. A better class of polystyrene set I suppose! Kath
January 28, 201114 yr You can only shrug your shoulders and roll your eyes when possibly soap's most annoying character ever ~(Ricky Norwood's) wins ANY award - a truly, truly abysmal actor - and a completely superfluous character. Plus - Danny Miller, for the second year in a row, was completely robbed. Lacey Turner? Ahem..... And Eastenders has had possibly its most feeble year EVER - the appalling 'Phil on crack for 2 weeks' storyline, the laughable baby theft, toe-curling Janine antics, the return of the snoresome Katnalfie........ it's even below Hollyoaks for me this year - and I didn't think anything could be THAT bad. EE was so, so much better when it was a 2-a-week affair - since they've put it on more, the storylines, characters, acting..... all suffered massively. I loved David Platt looking appalled and shaking his head when EE won the top award - he was mirroring what I was doing at that moment.
January 28, 201114 yr Yes completly incorrect, also danny miller lost the award himself for his rants, people who rant like he does will lose out on votes and the problem with danny miller is he believes in his own hype, i do like his charactor in emmerdale and he does act well but he should learn to be more gracious in defeat and also never believe in his own hype. EastEnders has had some dodgy stuff like all the soaps have had in 2010 but it had some fantastic stuff and lets not forget 2010 was the eastenders live episode aswell as corries, we also had fantastic stuff with stacey and jean, the return of the brilliant kat and alfie, billys death, peggys exit to name but a few so eastenders deserved that award as much as anyone.
January 28, 201114 yr Danny Miller hasn't put in a really amazing performance for quite some time now. He can cry on a whim but it's all a bit one-note lately.
January 28, 201114 yr Eastenders had ONE highlight this past 12 months - Carol Jackson returning - one of its finest ever characters. the problem she's having is, despite her doing her best with every scene, the writing is just.... Godawful... just..... bad. Some of the storylines they've featured this year have been nothing short of desperate - the plain, simple fact is that EE is on too many times a week - the quality dip since this has happened has been alarming. It's full of half-finished and realised storylines featuring characters you don't really give a $h!t about. Even Peggy's exit was embarrassingly bad. And the live episode - well, Corrie showed them how that should be done, no question...... As for Danny Miller losing due to his rants...umm.... he actually congratulated Turner today - and said before the awards he was rooting for her..... how more gracious can you be? There's no doubting last year he was robbed - and this past 12 months he's given some of the best performances in a soap - ever. OK, his character isn't at the forefront of anything right now..... but when it is - he's jaw-dropping. If they're giving awards to EE females, Lacey Turner absolutely wouldn't even have been on my top 5 from that show - a distinctly average actress who bumbled her way through some pretty serious storylines (the whole bipolar storyline - she bombed it). Plus, she comes across as a really moody cow in real life - she hardly seemed overjoyed when she won last night. Oner thing about EE I do agree with you on, though - Jean - she plays her part brilliantly.
