New U2 Album in May 2011 Says German Amazon

The site ATU2.com picked up the news that the German site U2tour.de listed May 27, 2011 as the release date for U2’s next album, generically titled “new album 2011.”

While no official announcement has been made, ATU2.com makes the point that the date coincides with what Paul McGuiness said last November.

We are trying very hard to use this time in New Zealand and Australia to finish an album that will be released in the spring…It’s not so much recording as editing and polishing up lyrics and trying to getting it done by the date it needs to be delivered to the record company for release in May. It’s sounding great: lots of hits.

The U2 manager Paul McGuinness has recently announced that U2´s 13th studio album will be released in May.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness has confirmed that the new U2 record, their 13th studio album, will be released in May of 2011. Speaking at the Midem music conference in Cannes, France on February 1st 2011, McGuinness spoke about the release date and hinted at how recording sessions have gone. Paul McGuinness is often seen as the fifth member of the Irish rock band, having been teir manager since the band formed more than twenty years ago.

The exact release date of the album has not been confirmed, at the time of writing, with McGuinness only stating that it would be during the month of May. Curiously though, Amazon.com have the new album listed for release on the 27th of May 2011. The working title for the album is Songs of Ascent, a title that was thought to be the name of the album on release. However, McGuinness stated in Cannes that this is unlikely to be the final name for the record, according to AtU2.com.

The record will is being produced by Dangermouse. McGuinness also stated that the songs have nearly all been completed. Now Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr and Adam Clayton are applying the final touches to the tracks in their studio in Southern France. By U2 standards, the previous album, No Line on the Horizon achieved low sales figures. According to United World Chart, the 2004 release, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb more than doubled the sales figures of the last album.

The release of the new album will coincide with a large part of the final leg of the 360 tour. The tour, huge in scope and the number of people that the Irish rockers will have played to, began in Barcelona in 2009 with two dates at Camp Nou. By the tour´s end, the group will have played in dozens of cities all over the world, in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and North America. According to the Billboard Touring Award, 360 was the highest grossing tour worldwide in 2009 and in 2010. The remaining dates of the tour will see U2 play in cities including Johannesburg, Mexico City, Buenos Aires and cities in the United States and Canada. Over the course of the tour global acts such as Jay-Z, Snow Patrol, Kasabian, the Fray and One Republic have played as guests of the band. The band will close the tour on 30 July in Canada, playing at Moncton with The Arcade Fire providing support.

The band will undoubtedly play the new album on the rest of the tour. It is one of the most anticipated music releases of the year. U2´s 13th studio album will be available to buy in May.

Jay-Z Blames Himself for Delay of the New U2 Album

By The Editors of Spinner Posted Mar 15th 2011 05:00PM

Iconic rapper Jay-Z says he may be to blame for the delay of U2's long-promised studio album, 'Songs of Ascent.' Although the disc, which was first expected in 2010, could still be on target for release when the Irish rock giants' North American tour gets underway in May, time is running out to execute a proper publicity campaign.

"One night I ran into Bono and he told me he'd read an interview I'd done," Jay-Z tells The Sun. "The writer had asked me about a U2 record ['No Line on the Horizon'] that had just been released and I said something about the pressure a group like that must be under just to meet their own standards.

"[bono] said the quote had really gotten to him and he decided to go back to the studio, even though the album was already done, and keep reworking it 'til he thought it was as good as it could possibly be," said Jay-Z, who opened a run of shows in Australia and New Zealand for U2 late last year.

"I was surprised that at that point in his career he still got anxious about his work."

This could explain why a May 27 release date for U2's new album, first listed on the German arm of Amazon.com in late January, has since been pulled. At the moment there is nothing concrete about when the album will surface, but a release date before the summer seems increasingly doubtful. :(

Last October, manager Paul McGuinness suggested that the follow-up to 2009's 'No Line on the Horizon,' which has sold more than 5 million copies globally, would arrive in "early 2011," and boast titles like 'Mercy,' 'Every Breaking Wave' and 'Boys Fall from the Sky.'

While fans await new music, the group's 360 Tour of North America, which was delayed a year by Bono's debilitating back injury last spring, still launches at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City May 11. Bono and The Edge have also been distracted, caught up in the web of intrigue surrounding their 'Spider-Man' musical on Broadway. The duo, who wrote all of the songs and music for the show, are said to be writing two new numbers following a critical drubbing that also saw the exit of director Julie Taymor.

Well you can never be as good as your best , can you !!! I think Bono is foolish trying to better what they had before & instead should be concentrating on getting some good tunes out there for his 'public' to hear :cheer: Bloody Robbie Williams has the same problem , always trying to better than the last time & that does not always work in your favour

U2'S Sci-Fi Sound

U2 are working on a ''sci-fi'' sound with RedOne for their new album.

The 'With or Without You' group, fronted by singer Bono, worked with Lady Gaga producer RedOne on tracks for their next record, resulting in a "futuristic" sound.

RedOne said: "Bono described the album as 'futuristic'. U2 going sci-fi or something, that's how he described it.

"We've put down a few ideas, but we don't know how many will end up on there.

"They have a very special way of working. A song is never done until the day before it comes out almost, so you never know."

Despite his work with 'Born This Way' hitmaker Gaga being mainly synthesiser led, the producer added the new material with U2 - which also includes guitarist The Edge, bass player Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen - will be guitar based.

He added to Billboard.com: "I'm a guitar player, so it was just me and Bono and Edge playing guitar, exchanging melodies. We were just like musicians jamming. I loved it."

RedOne's tracks are most likely to appear on a new "club" record the group are working on, which is they have said is separate to a new rock album the band are writing called 'Songs Of Ascent' and the soundtrack to the 'Spiderman: Turn off the Dark' musical, which was written by The Edge and Bono.

U2's new album. The band told Rolling Stone that the release of their new album has been pushed back until 2012. What a bummer for all the Bono fans.

U2 album release delayed following 'RedOne session failure'

Published: Sunday, Jun 12, 2011, 21:17 IST

Irish rock band U2 has revealed that the release of their new album will be delayed due to the failure of recording sessions.

The band had been working with Gnarls Barkley star Danger Mouse and superproducer RedOne, and had hoped to release their 13th studio album, the follow-up album to 2009's 'No Line on the Horizon', within the next few months.

But bassist Adam Clayton revealed the recording sessions with RedOne are just not working, and that with their busy schedule they would have to delay further studio work, which will most likely delay release of the album to late 2012.

"We had to have a meeting and look at the schedule to see if we could pick up any extra time to work on it. We just realised that we couldn't," the Daily Star quoted Clayton as telling Rolling Stone.

"To be honest, everyone was a bit gutted. But it was the only sensible decision (to postpone it)," he added.

Not only that. According to reports, it will be the 2nd half of 2012

New U2 album delayed until 2012

Irish band put back Danger Mouse collaboration until late next year, while 'clubbing' record may never see the light of day

U2 will not release a new album in 2011 and they may never release the "club-sounding" LP they recorded last year. More than two years after Bono promised the "companion" to No Line on the Horizon, the Irish rockers now expect to release their 13th album in late 2012.

"When the record is finished, we'll know what it is," bassist Adam Clayton told Rolling Stone magazine. U2 have only released one album since 2004, despite working on three different projects. The first – a "meditative and processional" record dubbed Songs of Ascent – was originally due before the end of 2009. The band later proposed an album of club music, recorded with producers Will.I.Am, David Guetta and RedOne; a straight rock disc, produced by Danger Mouse; and there was even talk of recording U2 versions of Bono and the Edge's Spider-Man songs.

"We haven't had time to go back to that material and complete it," Clayton explained. "Everyone was a bit gutted, because I think it would have been great to have got to the end of this year and have a new record out. It's not my favorite decision to put it back, but it was the only sensible decision."

While U2 could conceivably complete the album "early next year", the Edge told Rolling Stone, "thinking practically, I imagine that Bono's right – probably next autumn". The band are currently prioritising their rock album with Danger Mouse. "We did some work on it in January in New York," Clayton said. "It was great progress."

Though the band's "club" album was "very, very exciting", Clayton said, "it doesn't feel like the right fit". "I'm not sure it was the essence of what U2 is good at. U2 is very elastic, we can do many different things, but I think we have to get down to the essence of the band. I think that's what people like about us, and we have to do what we do best and we have to focus on that, and the work we did with Danger Mouse came closest to that."

It all comes from their undecision with what should be the "next U2 project". If they go all rock it's going to lack of a modern sound (that, at this stage of their career, it's not necessarily a bad thing). If they go all club-bangers, core fans aren't going to recognize the band. I think they should make a pice of work that reflects those two entities, their part that still lives and enjoy the sound of the mainstream and their rock essence that represents their career.

In the end I just want them to perform what they feel comfortable with.

I like rock. And I'm not adverse to some disco, dancy, electronic stuff. I'll be happy either way. I just want a new album :(
