February 14, 201114 yr Author 01.Mariah Carey - Without You - I think this is a good cover :) 02.D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better {1994} - The anthem of New Labour, but nothing special. 03.Toni Braxton - Breathe Again - Beautiful soul ballad. 04.Enigma - Return To Innocence - Great ethnic/chillout tune. 05.Celine Dion - The Power Of Love - The Jennifer Rush version is 100000 times better, but Celine did an OK job on it. 06.Aretha Franklin - A Deeper Love - I don't remember this. 07.Cappella - Move On Baby - Great dance tune, but check out the live performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g27_buTv7Fw 08.Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart And Sting - All For Love - Meh. 09.2 Unlimited - Let The Beat Control Your Body - Meh. 10.Reel 2 Real Featuring The Mad Stuntman - I Like To Move It - Eww......why do I picture Jedward doing this? 11.Wendy Moten - Come In Out Of The Rain - Very decent Mariah-esque ballad :) 14.The Cranberries - Linger {1994} - They were the band of 1994. Love this song. 16.Meat Loaf - Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through - Another great release from the Bat out of Hell II album. 27.New Kids On The Block - Dirty Dawg - Ewwww. Showed their time was up. Makes their 2008/9 comeback look like Take That's! 46.Eternal - Save Our Love - Loved this group!!! 47.Texas - So In Love With You - Gorgeous ballad.
February 14, 201114 yr A bit of a p***-poor chart, but still the odd gem to be discovered... 01.Mariah Carey - Without You Vile.. Insipid... Painful. And I'm being diplomatic! 02.D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better {1994} U R The Best Thing remains a club classic, but this and all of their other efforts were not so... 03.Toni Braxton - Breathe Again I randomly loved this as a nipper, but haven't heard it since, don't think I'd have the same fondness for it somehow. 04.Enigma - Return To Innocence I actually can't abide this! 05.Celine Dion - The Power Of Love Noooooooooooo! 06.Aretha Franklin - A Deeper Love Even the lungs of Aretha couldn't better the original Clivilles and Cole original (which is a personal favourite) 07.Cappella - Move On Baby Ah I love cappella, not aged well but served a purpose! 08.Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart And Sting - All For Love Bryan Adams? Rod Stewardt?? STING????? Why don't you just kill me now! 09.2 Unlimited - Let The Beat Control Your Body No! 10.Reel 2 Real Featuring The Mad Stuntman - I Like To Move It Probably the best track in the top ten! Produced from a then obscure Erick Morillo! Of the rest, I like: 13.K7 - Come Baby Come 20.Shara Nelson - Uptight 22.Atlantic Ocean - Waterfall 23.Culture Beat - Anything 32.Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away 39.Urban Species - Spiritual Love 40.Bill Tarmey - Wind Beneath My Wings Errr what the f***? 44.Fog - Been A Long Time 46.Eternal - Save Our Love :D 52.Diddy - Give Me Love 66.Slo-Moshun - Bells Of NY
February 14, 201114 yr Check out my blog Pop Unlimited 1994 where I'm doing weekly chart commentaries for 1994. I've also uploaded this week's chart hosted by Mark Goodier in full :)
February 14, 201114 yr That is such a poor Top 10 that I'm not even going to comment on it. These are the tracks that I do like... 32.Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away 33.The Orb - Perpetual Dawn {1994} 43.Elastica - Line Up 53.Manic Street Preachers - Life Becoming A Landslide 61.The Charlatans - Can't Get Out Of Bed 67.Therapy? - Nowhere 71.The Boo Radleys - Barney (... And Me) 75.Joan Jett And The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'N' Roll {1994} Pretty slim pickings apart from some re-issues and some pre-Britpop rumblings.
February 15, 201114 yr Oh me, I remember this chart - pop music was going through one of its really $h!tty periods. 01.Mariah Carey - Without You Where the warbling warhorse finally became a household name and opened the door for other horrible screechers like that bint at number 5 02.D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better {1994} Didn't need a re-release but a good pop song originally, shame about the new Labour re-release again 03.Toni Braxton - Breathe Again Another horrible warbler 04.Enigma - Return To Innocence Rather silly record, ostensibly based around someone gurgling backwards 05.Celine Dion - The Power Of Love Horrible, horrible woman - responsibe for several chart atrocities in the 1990s. As if this record wasn't bad enough when it was first recorded 06.Aretha Franklin - A Deeper Love Never quite worked out why she did this, a like for like 'cover' of Clivilles & Cole 07.Cappella - Move On Baby They'd long since become a parody of themselves. Helyom Halib was ok, but this...yuck 08.Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart And Sting - All For Love Three c***s w***ing around a microphone 09.2 Unlimited - Let The Beat Control Your Body See Capella - actually don't, 2 Unlimited were never any good 10.Reel 2 Real Featuring The Mad Stuntman - I Like To Move It Good grief...and for some reason I bought this when it came out  As Grebo69 said, a horrible top 10. Here's what I'd salvage from the rest... 13.K7 - Come Baby Come - erm, well I liked it. 20.Shara Nelson - Uptight - I liked Shara, not sure if I liked this one but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. 28.Saint Etienne - Pale Movie - although not their best, just a bunch of la la las 33.The Orb - Perpetual Dawn {1994} - great song, but why were they still releasing records off 'Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld' in 1994? 41.Honky - The Whistler - I liked this, part of the short-lived whistling rap craze that really only also featured Credit to the Nation 43.Elastica - Line Up - One of my favourite Elastica songs. 50.Sultans Of Ping FC - Wake Up And Scratch Me - their last 'major' single, the Sultans never quite gained the popularity I thought they would. 53.Manic Street Preachers - Life Becoming A Landslide - it's ok, I keep meaning to listen to Gold Against the Soul more often. 60.Cud - Neurotica - ok single from a band who were pretty much finished in the eyes of Britpop 61.The Charlatans - Can't Get Out Of Bed - a bit plodding, they were about to become big again with crap like 'Hey Cunty Baws' 66.Slo-Moshun - Bells Of NY - Great dance record 67.Therapy? - Nowhere - Where Therapy? started to go rather pop 71.The Boo Radleys - Barney (... And Me) - great record from Giant Steps, shame they had to go and come up with Wake Up Boo really...
