February 18, 201114 yr This is SUCH a great list... I'm glad Billboard found youtube videos for all of them! I could probably spend hours on that site...
February 18, 201114 yr too many good songs but good to see songs like smooth by santana there, i think on the 50th anniversary list of most successful songs on the billboard ever, I think it was in 2nd place
February 18, 201114 yr This is SUCH a great list... I'm glad Billboard found youtube videos for all of them! I could probably spend hours on that site... Yeah, I was thinking the same. They should do that with the UK #1s too. It's nice to have a page where you can just scroll down and listen to them one at a time with ease. The way it is now, you have to keep searching for videos and stuff, and it can just get annoying, especially with the earlier years. However, a few of the videos I tried didn't work, due to copyright issues.
February 19, 201114 yr I'm jealous of the US #1s list from the 1990s, tbh :( So many amazing R&B songs that didn't get to #1 here because the UK was too busy embracing britpop and then quickly followed that by embracing cheesy pop. I mean, The Boy Is Mine was kept off #1 here by C'est La Vie. That says it ALL (although I do like CLV in a nostalgia way, but there's no doubt that TBIM is the far better song). And I LOVE that The First Night got to #1 in the US, lol, even if it was only because Monica was untouchable in that little period. Amazing song, anyway. Ex-Factor should have got to #1 in the US instead of Doo Wop, though, although Doo Wop is also great. But Ex-Factor is one of the best R&B songs ever. I can't even fault it. It did much better in the UK peak-wise, which is weird :o That said, I far prefer the UK #1s from 2000 onwards, with a few exceptions where the US definitely got it right, but the same can be said for any country, really.
