Hi Richard :D Here are my faves of the week.

1. Adele - Someone Like You (32) (CR-22-32-1)

This time last week 'Someone Like You' wasn't even a contender for my top 40. I wasn't entirely sure what was being chosen as the second single. Then along came the Brit Awards where Adele stole the show, imo, with a powerful performance of 'SLY'. This alongside my continued love for 'Rolling In The Deep' and seeing 'SLY' rocketing up iTunes, I bought '21' on Thursday evening after work. Which brings us to today and surprise ( :w00t: ) 'Someone Like You' has gone straight into my chart at #1 without even appearing in my Pre-Release chart. It's the first time since the Pre-Release chart started in September 2006 that this has happened. Having seen '21' selling like hotcakes for the last three weeks, I completely understand why its proved to be such a popular album. I wouldn't at all surprised if '21' becomes one of the UK's biggest selling albums of all time (should easily clear 2 million I reckon).

5. Jessie J feat B.o.B. - Price Tag (7) (CR-38-OUT-13-7-5)

Well, it's down to #2 but I still adore this track as much now as I did when I first heard it. Had it not been for the Brits having such a massive impact on my chart, 'Price Tag' would've been enjoying a third week at #1 for me.

8. Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me (5) (CR-3-1-2-5-5-8)

Well, wasn't that an anti climax? :D I saw a clip of the music video to 'HIAM' on Daybreak on Friday morning as an exclusive. From the 30 seconds they played, I thought "that's it?!!! ". It looked like behind the scenes footage rather than an actual video. Out of curiosity I watched it on YouTube. Not impressed but alas the song itself is still as great as ever.

10. Lady Gaga - Born This Way (NEW) (CR-10)

When I first heard 'Born This Way' I thought it sounded pretty decent even if parts of the verse did sound like 'Waterfall' by TLC and the chorus sounding like 'Express Yourself' by Madonna. If you're gonna be influenced, be influeced by the best. :D The tagline "don't be a drag, just be a queen" slightly put me off - it seemed a bit try hard but nonetheless the song continued. Then there's the ghastly rap towards the end. After listening to the track a few more times, those awkward moments start to gel and become part of the song with any horrific " :manson: " reactions from me. I still don't think this is anywhere near the standard Lady GaGa set when 'Bad Romance' was released.

11. Adele - Rolling In The Deep (8) (CR-20-13-10-7-8-13-3-2-8-11)

Adele is on a roll right now. Two songs inside my top 3 - I'm not sure if any other artists have ever achieved this, I would need to check. I don't want to become an Adele iLoon but I really hope 'Someone Like You' is the official UK #1 tomorrow.

18. You Me At Six feat Chiddy Bang - Rescue Me (69) (CR-69-18)

Wow, what a climb. :o This is the first song from both You Me At Six and Chiddy Bang that I've liked. The two acts work together really well on this radio friendly track.

20. Diddy-Dirty Money feat Skylar Grey - Coming Home (13) (CR-6-3-3-4-9-5-8-9-13-20)

Have to admit, I'm getting bored of listening to this now. Still, I'm happy that the song was able to crack the UK top 5 as initially I couldn't predict if this would be a hit or not.

21. Take That - Kidz (39) (CR-18-18-OUT-43-39-21)

The production on this track is absolutely incredible. I'd even listen to this as an instrumental. 'Kidz' is such an anthemic sounding song. Then again, so was 'The Flood'. I'm again in two minds over how well this will do in the charts. I don't even think there's a music video yet for 'Kidz'. If there is, I've not seen it yet. This track deserves to give Take That another top 10 single but whether it does is left to be seen.

23. Alexis Jordan - Good Girl (14) (CR-17-14-23)

The ultimate grower. Only a fortnight ago I was finding this song slightly underwhelming, but having heard this song over the last week I've grown to adore this song more and more. It's even reflected in my Pre-Release chart as 'Good Girl' rockets 09-01 overtaking Take That and Clare Maguire.

26. Rihanna - S&M (41) (CR-46-41-26)

Judging from your chart run for 'S&M', you don't like this anywhere near as much as 'What's My Name?'. It's weird how 'WMN' just didn't catch on in most countries - only UK, Ireland and USA where the main countries where the song became a big hit. Then you look at how well 'S&M' is now doing in Europe. It's almost like 'S&M' is Europe's follow up to 'Only Girl (In The World)'.

29. Rihanna feat Drake - What's My Name (25) (CR-8-3-2-3-5-3-1-2-2-2-1-1-2-4-9-16-25-29) Longest Runner

...speaking of the devil.

35. Adele - Set Fire To The Rain (30) (CR-16-10-15-30-35)

Another highlight from '21' I can understand why the record company would choose this as a single. However, they should let 'Someone Like You' enjoys its moment in the limelight, make it the official second single whilst it's popular with the UK public. Keep 'SFTTR' as third single and push forward its release around April/May to help continue selling the album.

49. Nicole Scherzinger - Don't Hold Your Breath (46) (CR-18-OUT-39-46-49)

Seen the video to 'DHYB' quite a few times during the week but it's not had the same immediate impact that 'Poison' had. Don't see this going to #1 in my chart but I can't rule out top 10.

50. Clare Maguire - The Last Dance (37) (CR-13-15-OUT-27-37-50)

As much as I really like this, I have a gut feeling it's going to bomb next week. :(

51. Fredrika Stahl - Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (65) (CR-65-51)

Yay!!! GD charting a nursery rhyme. I look forward to next week when you chart Mad Donna 'Wheels On The Bus 2011'. :P

58. Milk & Sugar vs. Vaya Con Dios - Hey (Nah Neh Nah) (64) (CR-64-58)

The official follow up 'We No Speak Americano' even if it is a different dance act. I really don't think this will take off at all in the UK. 'WNSA' was a real one off and it's sad that there's been so many seriously bad copycat tracks like Swing Kids 'Nonsense' which really is abysmal.

Thanks Hits!

1. Obviously I knew the song before the Brits, but that performance took it to a whole other level for me, it was a real 'moment' and the saving grace of the ceremony. So glad it's #1 in the UK, she's massively exceeded my expectations this year! Really glad that you bought the album, I know you don't usually listen to albums much...(or am I wrong )

8. It's been a bit overhyped I guess, there are some clever bits towards the end but it's not as great as the loons are making out. Ah the joys of being a casual objective occasional Britney fan eh!

10. I agree, I seem to go on and off this song, and I'm not a huge fan of the 'don't be a drag, just be a queen' parts...I can't see it topping my chart, although she's actually only ever topped my chart once and that was with Bad Romance (for 7 weeks!).

21. Apparently a video has been filmed, god knows why they're so late in getting it out...have you heard TT's new album yet?

26. You're right, I don't like it anywhere near as much as What's My Name. I like it but it doesn't click as much with me as that did. I guess I'm more a fan of Rihanna's more R&B styled tracks than her dancier songs :o

51. Ha! This is really nice actually, in a Regina Spektor sort of way! Apparently it was on a Nissan ad in Europe!

58. I know what you mean. I really like this song and it could be big with promotion I guess, but it definitely feels very copycat so soon after 'Americano'.

Hey Rich! Glad to see Jessie J is having success with Price Tag on your music chart, I am starting to love this song. Also good to see Zoë Badwi in your chart, if I may ask do you have a download link for this song? I would buy it though I don't have any money on iTunes. Anyhow, awesome chart like always!

Thanks Matt! Price Tag has massively grown on me :D I don't actually have a link to Zoe's song, I've just been watching it on youtube as I can't find a link anywhere :drama: It's not on iTunes in the UK!

Hey Rich!

Great to see Adele at #1; it's an absolutely beautiful song, and I actually prefer the BRITs version to the album one. Stunning, stunning, stunning! I've finally heard the album too, and it is really good. It's a tad patchy in places, but the highlights are brilliant!

Boo at you charting GaGa. I've still only heard it once (in full), and I don't expect to be listening again (on my own accord) anytime soon (unless it's to laugh at the video which will undoubtedly be awful).

Take That at the BRITs were hilarious - the most ridiculously camp thing of the night! It's a great song though, so I'm glad it's the next single (although I think I do prefer 'SOS').

'I Need A Doctor' has really grown on me after I watched their Grammys performance on YouTube! Skylar's voice is beautiful and it live sounded just like the recorded version.

Brilliant chart! Nice to see September as your #1 album; I've not actually listened to it yet, but I love both singles and as you seem to love the whole album, I expect I will too. :D

Thanks Theo!

Agreed Theo, on my iTunes 'chart playlist' I have the live Brits version instead of the album version actually, so I agree with you! I never thought Adele would ever get a #1 in my chart a few months back :o Well I go on and off Born This Way, but it's #1 on a lot of charts on BJ so save your hate for them :kink: I also prefer SOS to Kidz, but it's a decent enough single! September's album is really good, I definitely recommend it :D

Thanks Liam! I pretty much agree with all of your comments! Nice to see you liking some of September's Swedish tracks!

Rich, here's what I like:

1. Adele - Someone Like You (32) (CR-22-32-1)

8. Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me (5) (CR-3-1-2-5-5-8)

11. Adele - Rolling In The Deep (8) (CR-20-13-10-7-8-13-3-2-8-11)

15. Taio Cruz feat Kylie Minogue & Travie McCoy - Higher (11) (CR-19-9-9-5-12-OUT-12-11-15)

18. You Me At Six feat Chiddy Bang - Rescue Me (69) (CR-69-18)

26. Rihanna - S&M (41) (CR-46-41-26)

32. The Naked & Famous - Young Blood (38) (CR-7-3-2-5-13-19-OUT-42-38-32)

33. Richard Vission & Static Revenger starring Luciana - I Like That (45) (CR-36-20-13-7-18-OUT-45-45-33)

34. Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On (24) (CR-26-24-34)

35. Adele - Set Fire To The Rain (30) (CR-16-10-15-30-35)

36. Tinie Tempah feat Ellie Goulding - Wonderman (29) (CR-16-16-OUT-20-14-29-36)

Excellent #1, she stole the show at the Brits. So glad this is officially #1, Adele deserves it! For all other artists this year, looks like she'll be the one to beat.

I'm not a fan of Born This Way. It was going to be difficult for Gaga continue to make brilliant single after single.

Great chart as always!

  • Author
Thanks West, agreed about Adele! And sort of about Gaga - it's a good song but god knows it's got nothing on Bad Romance.

Hey, my comments this week :D

1. Adele - Someone Like You (32) (CR-22-32-1) Her performance on the BRITS was incredible

4. Sanna Nielsen - I'm In Love (NEW) (CR-4) High entry for Sanna! I'm looking forward to the album!

10. Lady Gaga - Born This Way (NEW) (CR-10) Is this her lowest charting single for you? She's set to enter very low on my chart this week, it's an alright song, but not quite as innovative as I was hoping it would be

39. Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam (NEW) (CR-39) This is not bad, could well make the final depending on what the other countries in it's semi final choose

53. Abalone Dots - Welcome To The Black Parade (NEW) (CR-53) Good to see this enter! A nice and interesting take on the song

55. Loreen - My Heart Is Refusing Me (NEW) (CR-55) I adore this, my favourite MF entry so far

59. Elisabeth Andreassen - Vaken I En Dröm (NEW) (CR-59) Shocked she came last! She's a Eurovision legend!

63. Christian Walz - Like Suicide (NEW) (CR-63) Surprised to see this enter. I found it extremely dreary :(

71. Hera Björk - Mina Eigin Leid (NEW) (CR-71) Not as good as her more uptempo material, it's crying out for a hands-in-the-air dance mix - only then will it have a chance of topping my chart!

72. Anniela - Elektrisk (NEW) (CR-72) I like this song a lot now, it's very Elin Lanto!

73. Magdalena Tul - Jestem (NEW) (CR-73) A decent entry from Poland, but I'm not loving it at the moment

September at number one in the albums! It's a good album then?

Thanks Ghosty!

1. Obviously I agree, hence the massive upturn in my chart

4. Yes indeed, her 3rd top 5 hit! So am I, the clips sounded very impressive!

10. No, that would be Love Game which got to #42(?). She's actually only ever had two huge hits in my chart - Bad Romance (#1 for 7 weeks) and Poker Face (#2 but top ten EOY). Everything else went low top ten, and this could well follow in their footsteps...not sure how this will peak for me yet...

39. I agree, and I really like it actually.

53. Agreed, I like it rather a lot - it helps that I already know all of the lyrics I guess, which makes it easier to get into!

55. It's nowhere near my favourite but I like it a lot.

59. I know! How awful! I actually really like this song too!

63. The studio version is far better than the awful live version imo, but still, it could be a one week wonder...

71. Haha, well #71 in my chart isn't exactly a SMASH! It won't be going much further either...

72. I see what you mean, although something's missing for me...not sure what. I do like it though.

73. I'd completely agree with that sentiment, although I can see it growing on me.

I think September's album is brilliant personally, I imported it so have my physical copy already :D

Thanks Ghosty!

10 - Yeah Love Game peaked really low for me also, #95  . Apart from Bad Romance, Telephone and Alejandro, she hasn't had that much success on my chart.

71 - Shame, it has some potential to be great, but like I say it needs to be clubbed up and needs an English translation too I think.

73 - Same, could well still be in my top 10 of this year's entries come May.

Cool :D I'll be getting my copy the same time as all the MF releases.

10. I did LOVE The Fame/Monster as a whole though, it was in my top ten albums for an age. Love Game was pretty generic/weak though :(

71. I'd agree with that.

73. I'd hope that it's not in mine :P

I can't believe how much is coming out that I want, I really can't afford it :drama: Sanna's album and the MF comps are musts, but I guess everything else will have to wait...

Hey there!

Decent #1 :) I really dont care about Adele, all her singles are overrated and dull, but I do kinda like Someone Like You.

Price Tag keeps getting better for me too :D

September overboard  I have the link to download it since last week, havent bothered with it still :o Is it any good?

Good chart :)

Thanks Dre, I was never majorly keen on Adele until this era. Chasing Pavements made my top ten in 2008 but that was her only notable success before. But 21 really is a vast step up in quality.

Agreed about Price Tag, it's a huge huge grower - sounds great in the clubs too!

Ha, I know! It's a brilliant album, seriously give it a go - the production on it is great throughout and the melodies are strong.

10 - I much preferred the material for The Fame Monster over the original album's material. I'm hoping this next album will be as good if not better.

73 - Same, but at this rate... :o :(

Tell me about it! My Scandi shopping list comprises of the MF comp (standard edition - I'm going to try and find a download of the bonus disc as spending £60 on that 10 years set is out of the question completely!), Sanna, Linda Bengtzing, Danny, September, Eva & The Heartmaker and also Ola's last album. I may also get Le Freak's album but I'll try before I buy there...

10. So do I, I have a horrible suspicion that this album will be a bit of a step down in quality - usually the lead single is the strongest song after all

I would LOVE that box set but £60 does seem ridiculously steep  I'm definitely getting Sanna, already got September and Ola and may get Danny's album. I agree on Le Freak, I don't know enough about them to just order the album off the cuff.
