The Saturdays confirm new UK tour

Friday, February 18 2011, 09:50 GMT

By Robert Copsey, Music Reporter

The Saturdays have announced plans for their next UK tour.

The group, who are currently in the middle of a 17-date sold out jaunt, told fans during their gig at London's Hammersmith Apollo that they will hit the road again in December this year.

"Tonight we're very excited to announce some special news," Frankie Sandford told the audience. "Following the success of the 'Headlines!' tour, we'll be touring the UK again this December.

"We're going to announce the dates very soon, so make sure to look out for them. Are you all going to come?"

The band also revealed that they are currently working on their next studio album, which is due for release later this year

I wonder if they'll be doing bigger venues?
  • Author

i hope so! at least Wembley Arena! it would be a dream to see them fill the 02! the headlines tour has been huge though selling out every venue (granted most the venues are small! but still..) bodes well for Album 4. i think the whole 'Headlines' campagin was about getting a few extra fans here and there which in fairness they did do, they are a lot more 'well known' amongst the UK now than before, and thanks to the tv series and ghost hunting show they seem to be more liked as well.

i guess this album will be make or break in the sense that it will define whether they will become huge or just carry on being consistant until their inevitable split.

also, this album will kinda be their 'chemistry' as the following album is bound to be a greatest hits record after all, if they release four singles from album 4 they will have released 13 singles

I think they should go for it

- 02 London

- Manchester

- Birmingham

- Secc Glasgow

That's it.. if they could get a sell out now i'm sure they will sell out those maybe not the 02 but they should go for it.

You guys have lost the plot. You honestly think they'll book the O2? I'm a massive fan but that is just deluded.

Una has aparently said to fan(s) in M&Gs that it will be an arena tour. Remember, they're making the assumption that they'll gain popularity with their 4th album which is why they think they will do an arena tour. If this next era dosen't live upto their expectations then they'll just probabbly do more or less the same for the Headlines tour.. theatres.

You could say that they're back to square 1 as they were in this position two years ago when they wrapped up Chasing Lights and were recording Wordshaker, banking on the conclusion that they were going to sell out an arena tour (which was confirmed by the regular insiders).

I'd ideally like to see them do an arena/theatre tour, something on the size and scale of Girls Aloud's 'Chemistry' tour. They thought they were already big in such a short space of time, they need to slow things down a bit. By the time this tour comes up in December, they would have technically done 3 tours in 1 year (2 in the UK and the launch in Germany) which will require a massive amount of energy, they're gonna be nackered by the time 2012 comes.

hmmm i disagree with some of your post. i dont think an arena tour is out of the question, their popularity is increasing era on era, this era has been their most successful and consistant so far. their 2nd era failed due to poor single choices etc. and i think a 10-date arena tour would sell fine, especially if they do a bigger production.

the whole Germany thing is great, they have almost wrapped album 4 im assuming, and it wont be a tour it will be a promotional tour of tv shows mags etc. id imagine after Higher is released they will take a month or two off before the promo for single ten in July/August

Headlines has not been their most successful era. Chasing Lights still remains their most successful era. The sales speak for themselves.

01. Chasing Lights (1.35m)

02. Wordshaker / Headlines (1.17m)

03. Headlines (0.63m)

04. Wordshaker (0.54m)

The fact that they sold out the Headlines tour on under half of the sales of Chasing Lights amazes me. They effectively 'loose' half their custom yet are still able to maintain selling out tours. I didn't say they couldn't pull of an arena tour, what I said was they're banking on their popularity increasing, therefore thinking they can sell-out arenas, and fair enough if that happens. But if it dosen't it looks like another theatre tour or even worse a re-take of Wordshaker, the tour being cancelled. I know the Germany launch will not be a tour (obviously) I was referring to the more obvious promotional tour, (why would I think they'd be doing a tour in Germany when they have little/no fanbase out there?).

According to my sources, 'single number 10' is penned for release earlyer than July/August.

its not just about sales honeybee. this era they have gone from "the girlband in coloured leggins" to being the UKs biggest girl band, this is down to more than just sales, they have a higher profile and are alot more liked all around. Missing You was their most successful lead single to date, and Higher is their third most succesful single to date. Headlines is their highest peaking record and has been a very consistent seller when album sales were at an all time low. And its not even a full album.

"Honeybee" lol. I'm not putting a downer on Team Sats, but sales speak for everything. If your market aren't buying your product, your loosing out. It's not all about peaks and positions and has been like this for some time. Headlines is an interesting situation as it contains past material (which you'd of thought would play to their advantage) was purposely released to re-gain lost sales from Wordshaker and to bridge the gap to their next LP. But the fact is, it is an album (as it is over 25 minutes long and contains 4+ tracks - OCC baselines) and both of it's singles were healthy sellers therefore it should have sold Headlines more, but it hasn't.

They re-couped well from Wordshaker I cannot deny that - having doubled album sales compared to their previous release. But if this was any other girl group or artist we'd all be like "they're doing $h!t" but it's all 'dumbed down' (as someone put it not that long ago on here) just because its The Saturdays.

Well no, you're talking a bit of BS here - because if you're basing all of your chatter on sales, you've missed one vital point.

The Chasing Lights era may be the highest selling, but that's because it had 5 singles taken from it?

Headlines only had 2 singles lifted from it and both went top 10 and sold consistently well. Had it been a full album, I'm sure they'd have done 4 singles and it would have surpassed Chasing Lights.

Their profile has never been higher than it is now. I am pretty certain, and I can be quoted once it's been released, that if their next lead single is anything like "Higher", they will have a #1 on their hands.

Two television stations have invested airtime in them, so it's not just all about sales - it's about their profile. If they're being talked about, they're still relevant and they will still sell.

mmmmm my point exactly.

anyway, im rather excited for news on this next tour! im sure we will hear more when the 'Headlines' tour concludes.

we need to be a tad realistic now however regarding news, with the April 15 release for Higher I'd imagine the girls will be out of the british scene for a few months and then we will get some sort of announcment regarding the next single in or around May

Yes you're right. I am basing my 'chatter' on sales, therefore I'm not even taking their profile into acount, so I have a point. I don't follow their profile much, I'm a sales man, which I find the most critical and controversial part - hence this discussion.

Headlines/Wordshaker had 4 singles in total with reletively similar sales to Chasing Lights overal, had they of released 1 more single from Headlines or Wordshaker, they'd of been level with Chasing Lights. Just think of it as two eras blended into one. I'm pretty sure they'll get a #1 too, I hope so anyway. And Headlines is a full album. It's over 25 minutes long, and has more than 4 tracks, therefore a "full album". It's not a mini-album, nor an EP, it's an album. Odd to think that something with what was originally 8 tracks long, it's still an album.

I'm not chatting BS, nor am I here to do so. I go out my way to find sales updates for you lot, and now im a BS**ter, nice.

well its not a full album is it. your just being dead anal now. and anyway your point is less valid as Chasing Lights was released at a period were sales were generally higher, the market has shrunk considerably by the time 'Headlines' was released.

also, if your a 'sales man' you must take marketing into consideration. when marketing an 8-track album with 4 already available songs, you would consider the reach of the market is going to be hit by the fact that 150,000 bought FIO, 85,000 bought Wordshaker, and 300,000 bought Ego. Oh! and 53,000 had just then bought Missing You.

comprendae.

OCC rules say it's a full album as it meets the required specifications for it to be so, so because the OCC say that i'm anal? I've never said they've underperformed with Headlines, so why you feel the need to justify that 160k for an album is OK is beyond me - I agree with you. All this just because I said Headlines could have potentially sold more (not saying its under-performed) considering the previous material should have worked to their advatage (Ego - 300k, big selling point) and also having an ITV2 show at the same time. Jesus. This new show for Ch4 should rake in some more sales for them hopefully :)

PLease, please, please come to Ireland again. I couldn't go last time :( I don't know why people think that they will book the o2 :/

Yeah it qualifys as an album chart-wise but its NOT A FULL ALBUM. IT IS A MINI ALBUM. IT IS 8 SONGS LONG - FOUR OF WHICH WERE ALREADY AVAILABLE BEFORE THE ALBUMS RELEASE.

Ego had sold 300,000 - so 300,000 people already owned it, 80,000 people had Wordshaker where it appeard, 900,000 had it on the Now! whatever it was on, plus it could quite easily have been illegally downloaded and shared for 10 Months! B)

Don't worry about it, that makes two of us. :)

That was my point exactly though, had it been a full era - the sales would have been the same.

Wordshaker & Headlines are definitely not one era, there was a huge gap in between 'Ego' & 'Missing You'.

Also, you might technically consider Headlines as a full album, but considering it only has 5 new tracks it can be classed as an EP/Mini-Album.

I wasn't insinuating what you were saying was complete BS, I was saying that you weren't taking other peoples views into account.

You may be a 'sales man' but that doesn't mean you can't have a rational overview of it all.

It is very nice of you to find the sales for 'us lot' but you do so off your own back, nobody asked you to do it.

Jay also provides us with sales figures, but he does it because he wants to and has interest, not for recognition.

Please don't go out of your way for 'us lot' if you don't want to :)

I like studying their sales, I don't do it for recognition, thank you <_<
