Posted March 4, 201114 yr When it came out there was alot of mixed reviews about this album and since then we have had Aphrodite. Do you look back on X now and have a different opinion about it? Was it the comeback that you wanted, was it a good experiment? If the releases were swapped around and X came out after Aphrodite, would it have been a success? For me, I loved X when it first came out and thought it was her best album ever. Now however, i think that Kylie could have done a better job on it, make it flow a bit better and pick better songs to go on it. Aphrodite wouls have been a better comeback had it been released but i can see why she did X and it is still a good album.
March 4, 201114 yr I like a lot of songs on X, there are many that scream "single!" and for different reasons. It wasn't very cohesive but I enjoy it. Aphrodite suffered from the opposite, it was brilliantly cohesive but had no songs screaming for release!

I will add on the whole aphrodite is a better album by far but from a singles point of view X had tons more potential.
March 5, 201114 yr X was my favourite Parlophone album at the time, and still is. Same here, but Aphrodite has been my favourite since its release. :D
March 5, 201114 yr No, my opinion about X has not changed. Its still one of her worst albums in terms of lack of consistency and limited potential singles. The problem with X and Aphrodite is the record company released the wrong singles. On Aphrodite, "All the lovers" was the right choice of first single, which has been reflected in its sales and the fact the album got to no1. However, the follow up singles werent as successful and didnt appear to connect with the general public in the same way that ATL did. Unlike X, I do believe Aphrodite is packed with single choices and think they should have opted for "Put your hands up" as 2nd single or "Cupid boy". Referring back to X, Like a drug and the One should have been first and second singles, "2 hearts" received a luke warm reception from many fans and divided the public.
March 5, 201114 yr Author Put Your hands Up would have been a totally terrible single and would have done worse than GOMW and BTT. X had so many potential singles on it, Aprodite, while being my favourite album by Kylie had a limited selection of singles.
March 5, 201114 yr I don't understand why many people saying that X is one of her worst albums. For me it's her best album in last decade. Aphrodite is typical Kylie album, all songs sounds the same, nothing new. For me big step down from X, which is something different of Aphrodite. And that's why I love X, it' not typical Kylie album.
March 5, 201114 yr Author Interesting point there Nick :o and I can see what you mean about X :) @ your siggy. Have you been listening to the new Britney song by any chance? :kink:
March 5, 201114 yr Xwould rate 4th favourite in her parlophone albums for me with light years, fever and aphrodite ahead of it. X however when it was good it was brillliant, wow, in my arms, like a drug and the one are 4 fantastic tracks but 2 hearts was a huge mistake as lead single as it did not represent the rest of the album in any way at all. Aphrodite had the correct lead single and all the lovers is in my opinion one of kylie;s best ever singles and it does reflect the sound of aphrodite and set the album off to a fine start. Although get outta my way has grown on me it was a disastrous 2nd choice of single as i think its the one song that does not tie in with the rest of aphrodite and it also to me was a song that ried too much to capitalize on the love at first sight sound but didnt work. Cupid boy i think would have made a great 2nd second single but then i coul dbe talking pants as i personaly thought better than today was a great choice of single. I wonder had higher been on the album and released after all the lovers would the album have sold a bit better, im still so so disapointed that aphrodite is her lowest selling parophone album as it doesnt deserve it plus the campaign started so so well.

March 5, 201114 yr Author Jeezo  I thought that link was an actual hot Brandon pic but then i realised that all pics of him are hot, especially the one in my siggy :kink: On the subject of X, Stars is the one song that screamed out to be released :( It never even got performed on tour.
March 5, 201114 yr I liked stars and its a strong album track but i personnely dont think it would have been a good single choice.
March 5, 201114 yr I loved X when it was released and I still love it now. It has it's flaws but as others have said it was full of killer tracks and potential singles, something which Aphrodite lacks. Out of her Parlophone albums it's just behind Fever for me.
March 6, 201114 yr I also think X would have performed even better had 2 hearts not been the lead single, had a better lead single been picked the album would have sold 100,000 on opening week.
March 6, 201114 yr I love 2 Hearts but yeah I agree it definitely wasn't a great lead single choice, especially after she had been away for so long.
March 6, 201114 yr Author Think maybe we should have an updated X rate then compare the final results to the Aphrodtie one?
March 6, 201114 yr Think maybe we should have an updated X rate then compare the final results to the Aphrodtie one? Ya i think that is a great idea. I also agree on the point that aphrodite didnt cover any new ground kylie wise but in a way X did, it will be interesting to see what direction kylie takes for the next album a sim sure she will want to get the next album right for herself, i mean that in both terms of sales and her been fully happy with the album, i think kylie herself is happy with the material on aphrodite but disapointed by sales where as with x she wanst fully happy with the material but seemed happy with its sales. What i have found weird as such about the x and aphrodite era is neither have really gone down well in australia and some of the singles from both these albums have almost been the worst perfoming of her career, there is still an obvious lot of love for kylie in aussie as the album have charted highly which shows the fans are still rushing out to buy her albums on release plus her tours always do very well which again shows the interest is still there for her. I think kylie needs to line up 2 big hits for her next album and i agree again with an earlier point maybe release the album on the back of the 2nd single that way single number 2 might perform well, kylie has loyal fans who will rush out and buy her album on release regardless so having 2 singles to sell the album on release may boost its sales to those who are not her hardcore fan base.
March 6, 201114 yr I agree that 2 Hearts was a disastrous first single choice from X. I agree that All The Lovers was a great first single choice from Aphrodite. However, I want to point to something that ultimately harmed both albums - dreadful styling and ill-fated promotion. Die hard fans aside, Kylie, for a younger generation, works best when she trades on sex appeal. The bleach-blonde styling and artwork for X were hideous - she came off like a bad Christina copy. People were turned off. Sexy Kylie returned for ATL, which was great and it payed off. However, in the case of GOOMW, the video was boring and we had a song that should have been a giant hit. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to sing live, and Kylie's promotion (of which there was a lot) didn't do it justice.
