Posted March 7, 201114 yr Johnny Preston, who had a number one hit with Running Bear, has died aged 71. The song was originally due to be released in March 1959. However, the writer JP Richardson (better known as The Big Bopper) died in the plane crash that also killed Buddy Holly on February 3 1959. As the song - like so many at the time - dealt with the death of a teenage sweetheart, the release was delayed - until the autumn in the US and early 1960 over here. VQ3XUM9gUG4
