May 15, 201213 yr OUCH at Let It Go not even making the top 200 in the albums once. I can see this making top 10 over fanbase but I can see it dropping fast and easily. I doubt the abum will even pass 120,000 sales.
May 15, 201213 yr She needs an image makeover, new management, new A&R, everything. It's so sad that British female popstars are not given the same opportunities their American counterparts get. Our label execs must be a bunch of cracked out imbeciles with no imagination. That said I'm sure the album will be good, it's just frustrating that Alexandra as a globe conquering chart force is not HAPPENING. Edited May 15, 201213 yr by ✞✞✞
May 15, 201213 yr CD Description from Amazon: Like all great pop music Heartbreak On Hold effortlessly wraps lyrical sadness in songs that make you want to dance. It's not by accident. “I'm that person who always wants to turn a negative into a positive because it's just the way I think,” explains Alexandra. From the frustrated stomp of first single "Elephant", a song written about a relationship that was slowly stalling and an immediate favourite of Alexandra's because it 'it just felt right', to the exuberant throw-your-cares-away dance rush of second single "Let It Go", Heartbreak On Hold is an album that acknowledges the hard times but offers a window of opportunity for people to forget about it all. “Yes it's upbeat and uptempo and I want to get you dancing but I want people to understand the deeper meaning behind the album.” While "Elephant" and "Let It Go" both slot nicely into the pop trend for dancefloor stompers, Heartbreak On Hold also displays Alexandra's love for 90s dance, specifically the emotional house music of Robin S or the soul-inflected dance of Soul II Soul, as heard most obviously on the heart-burstingly bittersweet title track. Featuring a vocal that almost erupts with emotion (“I tried everything to get over you, trying to make it through but nothing ever seems to work”) it's the kind of song that makes you want to dance while tears stream down your cheeks. Elsewhere the “very sexy” "Between The Sheets" and "Daylight Robbery" bear a stronger R&B influence, whilst the fluttering synths and four to the floor beat of "This Love Will Survive" marries Alexandra's survival extinct (“Sometimes if you really want something you've got to fight. It's telling the other person 'we will survive'”) to a beat that Alexandra rightfully says you'd have to be dead not to dance to. Then there's the ballad. Of course there's a ballad, that closes the album and features a lone piano and Alexandra's raw emotion speaking directly to the listener. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Heartbreak-Hold-Al...e/dp/B007T0MYEO
May 15, 201213 yr Sounds like just the one ballad then :o I'd rather there were a couple more, but it's good that an Emeli Sande and doing an album full of ballads after uptempo singles.
May 15, 201213 yr Here's the snippets: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Heartbreak-On-Hold...g=5336653544-21 Edited May 15, 201213 yr by X gunners X
May 15, 201213 yr All just sounds a bit... unexciting. Pedestrian. No huge hit singles or anything to cream over. Hopefully the full songs are better.
May 15, 201213 yr "Survival extinct" I bet that ballad sounds ridiculously out of place on the album. Not every album NEEDS a ballad you know. *Listens to snippets* EDIT: Sounds decent, could be a few really good songs on it. Ballad is out of place as I expected and Let It Go sounds among the weakest. Edited May 15, 201213 yr by Umi
May 15, 201213 yr Not much JUMPS OUT at me, Fire, Sitting On Top Of the World, Ooh La La and Daylight Robbery probably the most instant based on clips, but as always we shall see. The only turd, aside from Elephant sounds to be Tonight.
May 15, 201213 yr This whole thing just seems like her management have given up caring, calling it a day, don't mind what happens to her. It's not the case for Alexandra though, she seems so enthusiastic about everything on her Twitter and in interviews .... pretty sure this album could potentially be the death of her career already by the way things are going.
May 15, 201213 yr It's definitely going to be her Echo moment. Except that at least had a big promo push at launch and expensive cover art. Probably one more single and out...
May 15, 201213 yr And Echo was vastly superior to Spirit, whereas this is clearly nothing on Overcome. (although obv that wasn't your POINT)
May 15, 201213 yr I'm loving those snippets, Oh La La, Fire and Sitting On Top Of The World sound awesome.
May 15, 201213 yr It sounds alright I guess, nothing amazing but not bad by any means. Off the back of Overcome though, I knew it would most likely disappoint. Daylight Robbery, Ooh La La and What Money Can't Buy sound amazing! The latter will be TOTALLY out of place a la Run The World on 4 though, I agree. It's TOTALLY going to be her Echo-esque era I agree with Jark, although tbf Echo didn't do that badly :P Plus it does shit all over Spirit and this is far far far far behind the amazing Overcome I can tell already. 600k for Echo is great, it's just not as much as Spirit's approx. 2m total. This era is definitely not even going to have half the sales of Overcome though, being rather pessimistic it may actually struggle to get 1/3 of the way! Edited May 15, 201213 yr by Liаm
May 15, 201213 yr I think (and hope) What Money Can't Buy becomes this album's 'The Silence'. Other than that maybe 'Tonight' and 'Between The Sheets' or 'Sitting On Top Of The World' for singles.
May 16, 201213 yr An xtra ballad would have been better but really liking Heartbreak on Hold, Fire, Oh la la and What Money cant Buy.
May 16, 201213 yr I think a lot of those songs sound pretty good, although maybe my expectations have been lowered by the first two singles.
May 16, 201213 yr Listening to the snippets now and just about all of them sound really good! Especially Heartbreak on Hold and Fire! :cheer:
