Posted March 10, 201114 yr Madonna's grandmother, Elise Fortin, has passed away this morning at 99. At the moment that's all anyone knows but I will post more as it unfolds.
March 10, 201114 yr Author Just three months shy of her 100th birthday, Elsie Mae Fortin has passed away at her home on N. Dean Street in Bay City, Michigan, surrounded by friends and family on this very fitting Ash Wednesday. From the age of 19 into her forties she gave birth to eight children. Elsie was widowed at age 48 and endured much loss throughout her long life, including the deaths of three sons and a daughter (Madonna's mother). Elsie Mae Fortin June 19, 1911 – March 9, 2011
March 10, 201114 yr Poor Madonna, losing a grandmother is really hard to go through :( 99 is a grand age to get to though.
March 11, 201114 yr Author Madonna's maternal grandmother Elsie Mae Fortin has passed away at the age of 99. Madonna's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, issued a statement, reading: 'I'm sorry, but Madonna will not be issuing any statements or conversing with the media regarding her grandmother. It is a totally personal matter to her.' May she rest in peace
March 11, 201114 yr It’s a sad week for the Queen of Pop after her 99-year-old grandmother passed away yesterday. Madonna’s maternal grandmother, Elsie Mae Fortin, was just three months shy of her 100th birthday when she died in her home town of Bay City in Michigan. It has long been believed the singer was raised by her Elsie when her own mother died in 1963. Her grandmother had been living in a care home in the same area of Michigan where Madonna, 53, had grown up. It is understood Madonna was still very close to her grandmother and had often visited her in the care home in the months leading up to her death. The grieving pop star has so far refrained from commenting on her loss, but her publicist Liz Rosenberg broke her silence with an email to the Press today. In the email, she wrote: ‘I'm sorry, but Madonna will not be issuing any statements or conversing with the media regarding her grandmother. 'It is a totally personal matter to her.’ It is believed a funeral will be held for Elsie this Saturday at a nearby Catholic church in the Bay City area. March 11, 201114 yr Author I guess she was the mother figure in Madonna's life after her mother died when she was 5.
March 11, 201114 yr Author It hasn't been a good week for Madonna's personal life this week her nan died and Guy Ritichie's announcement (I wonder if she's happy for him). It probably sounds silly but you watch, listen etc and forget she's human too just like the rest of us even if she is probably the most famous woman on the planet. I hope she's ok. March 11, 201114 yr Guy's announcement? Is it that his girlfriend is pregnant? I don't see why she'd be upset for him. Must be extra tough since she has also lost her Mother, it is like losing her all over again :(
March 11, 201114 yr They seemed to part on good terms, i don't remember eith of them badmouthing eachother.
March 11, 201114 yr to be fair i think guy should pay her a visit and see if everything is ok. Hope she is ok. Im thinking to myself i wonder what shes doing right now :(
March 12, 201114 yr Author Well yeah me too... I wonder how her dad is getting on these days I really like him... As for Christopher I hope he doesn't cause a scene or strop with M.
March 12, 201114 yr Author Madonna's father Silvio Ciccone praised Fortin as a 'friendly, loving and caring' woman who did a 'great job' taking care of her family. It is not yet known if Madonna will attend Fortin's funeral, which is to be held today.
March 14, 201114 yr I don't see why Guy should visit her, he doesn't have any obligation to do so, unless Rocco (?? that his name?) wants him to.
March 14, 201114 yr Author Madonna saw her grandmother at the chapel of rest with Lourdes and Rocco and paid their last respects. (There are pics online of her going in and out of there but I'm not going to post them on there). It's believed Madonna didn't attended the funeral.
March 14, 201114 yr Author Sometimes Madonna doesn't attend these kinda things she has said about when she didn't go to Christopher Flynn's memorial service (her ballet teacher and mentor) because she didn't want to upstage the other mourners. Maybe that's why she didn't attend her nan's funeral then have the media trying to take pics of everything. At least she didn't snub her nan.
