Can I point out that I have vastly underestimated the amount of time it takes to do this. :(

I'll keep going for a while yet but I'm now highly doubtful that this will be ready for tomorrow, I'm only on the 15th out of 28 votes. Typing the tables takes significantly longer than it should. Urgh, sorry, I feel like I'm making all sorts of excuses here.

Indeed. I have no idea how Mark did it so many times without exploding. I'm sure only about 10-15 took part on ChC and even I couldn't keep up.

TAKE YR TIME K?

Thank you ▲▲▲

In the meantime, please all do feel free to continue discussing who will win and who will finish last etc.

(plus, genuine kudos to Mark, I also have no idea how you managed to run these so smoothly and so often without killing or at least horrifically wounding people around you)

I'd say it took me about 10-12 minutes to scorecard each set of votes! It did by the end anyway, once I'd got used to it. My checklist looked something like this....
  • Double check the persons votes I'm using; check the PM to what I input into Excel
  • Type up votes into presenting format
  • Add them to leaderboard and check points added to the right song, also check the correct amount of points have been awarded from that set (93 IIRC)
  • Re-type totals and sort
  • Type over positions
  • Format paint top rows to indicate Gold, Silver, Bronze
  • Print Screen and copy to paint
  • Crop picture in Microsoft Photo Editor and rename "Vote X - Poster Y"

Ah, I don't have excel on this PC (laptop has been returned due to hideous flying things getting behind the screen and they have taken it for repair which could take up to a month).

This wasn't a problem as I was happy enough manually calculating the results but it's the (literal) typing of the updated scoreboard after each set of votes that is proving to be the killer.

Can't you just cut and paste, and change bits here and there?

Don't worry about it Dandy, like they say "it'll be worth the wait". :D

Microsoft Excel is excellent when doing things like this. I wouldn't have coped back in the days of the ChC Multichart if I'd had to manually add the points each week without fail for 3 years. :o

There really should be zero typing in this if the votes are given back in the correct format. With some formulas the whole thing should be pastable into the comeplete data set and with a pivot table the totals for each entry should be available by refeshing it. Then sort to arrange in order of total points and reformat.

That is the way I would do it.

so not looking like it will be tonight then?

I will try my hardest...

I'm back from work now and have already begun collating them again but suspect it may not be ready quite in time...

When this is all done maybe I could have the data and set it up so minimal typing needs to be done? I wouldn't know 100% without looking but in any of the rates or charts I've done on any of the message boards I had no typing to do.

I don't really know how to use pivot tables.... Votes often come completely differently anyway. These were the last two sets of votes I got from the previous contest.

Well if people even stick to vaguely the same format then pivot tables will work.

20 / Strange Talk - Climbing Walls*

20 Strange Talk - Climbing Walls*

20 - Strange Talk - Climbing Walls*

Strange Talk - Climbing Walls* 20

20 Strange Talk

would all be fine as I'd do a "text to columns' or use some formulas to peel off the number from the start or the end.

Each set of votes would be dealt with differently if everyone chose a different format.

I do recommend that we all use standard formats - it's not too much trouble and causes the compiler a lot less hassle. Why can't people just copy and paste from the list presented in post 1 and just add the votes at the start of each line?

Can I reschedule to Wednesday evening? I know that's quite a delay but I know I'll definitely be able to do it then rather than keep messing people about with the time.

Thanks for the offers of help but I'm over halfway through now so I may as well soldier on, it's getting quicker now that I'm getting more familiar with it anyway.

I'll be ready dead on 7pm on Wednesday - thanks for being patient!

i'll probaly give wednesday a miss, hopefully i should have better things to do the night of my birthday.

Oh, haha! :D

Well, it can be either Weds, Thurs or Fri really. I'd feel bad making you miss it when you'd have been here tonight...

When are folk free? It's not like there's that many of us to fit around so I'll go with whichever is most popular.

well i'd feel bad if it was moved just for me personally, i don't mind too much.
Wednesday is fine with me its usually my free night. Apart from watching Masterchef at 9pm.
Do it whenever it fits you, I won't be online if you do it wednesday, but that's life.
