Posted July 26, 200619 yr Female acts battle for top slot The singles market looks likely to witness a four-way battle of the females for the number one spot this week, with just a few hundred sales separating Shakira, Rihanna, Lily Allen and Christina Aguilera, according to early retail reports. Leading the crop is Shakira's Hips Don't Lie (Epic), which, if it holds on to the number one position, would see a return to number one after a three-week absence. Christina Aguilera's Ain't No Other Man (RCA) is climbing into the top five after entering at 18 on downloads last week, as is Madonna's Get Together (Warner Bros), who is fighting for a top five placing with Kasabian's Empire (Columbia), released physically, digitally and to radio yesterday. Other likely new entries come from Pet Shop Boys (Parlophone), Paris Hilton (Warner Bros) and Forward, Russia! (Dance to The Radio), while Supermoode (Data), Snow Patrol (Fiction), Ray Lamontagne (14th Floor) and Feeder look likely to climb significantly. In the albums market, Now That's What I Call Music! 64 (EMI Virgin/UMTV) has got off to its expected strong start, after selling close to 60,000 copies on its day of release yesterday (July 24), eclipsing the sales tally of the number one artist album by Razorlight by some distance. Razorlightt and Lily Allen look likely to retain the top two positions in the artist album chart, despite witnessing a week on week sales decrease of more than 30% apiece. Pharrell Williams' much-delayed album In My Mind (Virgin) is on course to debut within the Top Ten, while fellow solo debutant James Dean Bradfield's the Great Western (Columbia) looks destined to settle just outside the chart's upper tier. Other likely new entries in the album chart come from Rogue Traders (Ariola), Tom Petty (Warner Bros), Bullet For My Valentine (Visible Noise), The Sleepy Jackson (Virgin) and Jurassic 5 (Interscope). July 28, 200619 yr That's all folks, as far as I know Pet Shop Boys have dropped one place to #15 (Thursday) taken from their messageboards. My prediction earlier in the week was for #19, seems it's slowly going to plan.
July 28, 200619 yr I'm really glad Pet Shop Boys are safely in the top 20, I was half expecting something like #24 for them. Absolutely blinding track and the album it's from is excellent too!
