June 5, 201114 yr Number of Appearances in 2010/11 season (domestic + international - before yesterday) Switzerland: Benaglio - 30 Lichtsteiner - 38 Ziegler - 44 Senderos - 3 Djourou - 37 Barnetta - 30 Inler - 40 Behrami - 26 Shaqiri - 29 (league only) Xhaka - 21 (league + international) Derdiyok - 45 England: Hart - 61 Johnson - 42 Terry - 49 Ferdinand - 31 Cole - 54 Parker - 42 Wilshere - 53 Lampard - 35 Milner - 49 Walcott - 43 Bent - 42 Only two Swiss players played more than 40 times last season, only two English players didn't. The average amount of games played by England's XI yesterday was 45.5, the average for Switzerland's XI was 31.1, however I'll take Senderos out as he's been injured all season giving an average of 34. Either way that's a remarkable difference and for once I will take fatigue as a valid excuse.
June 5, 201114 yr Author So what's stopping him from being a good attacking player with the more defensively-minded Parker and Wilshere alongside him? He was rubbish yesterday. I have always thought Lampard is overrated. The media and Makelele made him look much better than he was for Chelsea, and he's never performed consistently for England. If I was given a choice over Lampard or Gerrard in the team then it would be Gerrard every day. He offers so much more than Lampard. The only thing Lampard is better at is penalty taking. Milner is better in the centre though than on the wing. Need to play Phil Jones at centre back is England are going to persist with 4-3-3.
June 9, 201114 yr Didn't manage to post in here at the weekend, but I think England played ok.. Should have easily won the game if Bent had actually managed to put away the chances he had For the next game I'd probably go for Hart Cole Terry Ferdinand Johnson Gerrard Wilshere Parker Young Rooney Carroll Gerrard and Lampard simply cannot play together and so if I had to choose from the two.. I'd go with Gerrard as I think he brings more to the team The friendly vs. Netherlands will probably be a big wake up call that we really aren't as good as the media seem to suggest
June 9, 201114 yr Johnson is too flimsy defensively, that position has been crying out for Micah Richards so hopefully he'll be able to take it if he's in form at the start of next season.
June 9, 201114 yr Author Johnson is too flimsy defensively, that position has been crying out for Micah Richards so hopefully he'll be able to take it if he's in form at the start of next season. Johnson is infinitely England's best right back. This whole "he can't defend" nonsense is just spread by commentators who know literally jack about football. How many attacking modern day full-backs are brilliant defenders? Not many. His defensive side is a lot better than people give him credit for. Richards is all muscle and no skill.
June 11, 201114 yr Johnson is infinitely England's best right back. This whole "he can't defend" nonsense is just spread by commentators who know literally jack about football. How many attacking modern day full-backs are brilliant defenders? Not many. His defensive side is a lot better than people give him credit for. Richards is all muscle and no skill. He's still far better defensively than Johnson, and poses a serious threat at set pieces.
June 29, 201114 yr England have moved up to 4th in FIFA World Rankings! 1 Spain 2 Netherlands 3 Germany 4 England 5 Brazil Will Brazil overake again next month after the Copa America?
June 29, 201114 yr All European top four :o Brazil will surely start to fall after the Copa America as they won't have any competitive games until the next World Cup.
August 24, 201113 yr After a drop down to 6th last month England have climbed back up to 4th in the World Rankings after their game with Holland was postponed. We gained a total of 31 points as the game no longer counted in the rankings was a home defeat to Germany. Uruguay remain in 5th after also not playing a game, but Brazil's loss to Germany a fortnight ago sees them swap places with England. The postponed match with Holland also benefitted them, as they climb above Spain who lost to Italy.

September 2, 201113 yr England team to play Bulgaria Hart, Smalling, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Walcott, Parker, Barry, Downing, Young, Rooney
September 2, 201113 yr Author 4 years too late with Lampard being dropped. Now England are treated to the joyous partnership of Parker and Barry in central midfield.
September 2, 201113 yr Going to the pub for this in a bit but don't care at all, might put a couple of bids on to make it more exciting
September 2, 201113 yr Author Going to the pub for this in a bit but don't care at all, might put a couple of bids on to make it more exciting  Qualifiers are awful, but perhaps it's because the game is on a Friday night?
September 2, 201113 yr It's just England in general, the qualifiers are easy and then everyone goes mental about how we're going to win the upcoming tournament, before never coming close
September 2, 201113 yr Author It's just England in general, the qualifiers are easy and then everyone goes mental about how we're going to win the upcoming tournament, before never coming close  I know what you mean. I hate being a pessimist, but even today there were times where against a side with better quality we'd have been punished. Smalling is NOT a right-back. He was way out of position way too many times. Hart's distribution is pretty poor as well for a top class keeper.
September 5, 201113 yr No losses there. I would keep the same XI against Wales apart from Walcott to be honest.
September 5, 201113 yr Author Would rather Richards than Smalling at right-back, as I think he could be exposed against Bale. Just because Smalling is not a right-back at all, he leaves far too much space at times. But England shouldn't have too many problems against Wales...
September 5, 201113 yr I can see Capello going for the same starting XI, but with Milner in for Walcott Although, there's rumours that Lampard could be starting
