Cheryl Cole's 'Fight For This Love" In Legal Battle

The writers of the hit tune have been accused of ripping of another track...

Cheryl Cole is reportedly in the middle of a legal battle over her chart-topping smash hit, Fight For This Love.

According to The Sun, Chezza's tune is said to have been hit with a plagiarism lawsuit from publishers at Wardlaw Banks and Peermusic, who have accused music giants Sony, EMI and Universal of "ripping off" another song.

They have claimed that the Girls Aloud beauty's first solo single, penned by Wayne Wilkins, Stephen Kipner and Andre Merritt in 2008 - copies a previously unreleased track entitled I Want You Back.

Seven music companies have allegedly joined forces to issue of High Court order, denying that Cheryl's song breached copyright rules, with Merritt and Kipner claiming that they never heard I Want You Back when writing for Cole.

The writ states that Wilkins created the backing music, while Kipner and Merritt concentrated on the melody and lyrics.

However, Wilkins did work on I Want You Back seven years before he started creating Fight For This Love, but he "can't remember" the input he had on the track.

A High Court judge will now decide whether Cheryl's first solo No.1 did copy the other song or not.

Whether it ripped off that song, Cheryl cannot be sued as she has no credits apart from vocals on it. Other than that, this really is very pathetic...

Yeah thats what i was thinking. they cant blame Cheryl -_-

If Chezzal Wrote it herself it would be a different story...

I'm always amazed out how long it takes people to sue others for ripping off songs, especially after they've hit the top of the charts.

Never get anywhere do they?

Time to pull out this old phrase - codswallop!

If it's decided that FFTL did rip off this other track, the negative press Cheryl will inevitably get won't really be deserved as - like people said - she didn't write it, and had no creative input as far as we know. Then again, they say that all publicity is good publicity

:heehee: she could even fetch more sales if this become major

So true.

I would like to hear I Want You Back though so I can decide for myself.

Might as well slip this in here, I've started listening to it again, and it sounds good as new

And Cheryl is the 12th act to pass 1,000 plays on my last.fm
